Not gonna lie, totally streaming the opening ceremonies at work right now. We are going to my brother's to watch the PVR'd ones tonight, but DS will be with us and I know I will miss half of them while making sure he isn't trashing my brothers place or fighting with the dog.
The Canadian in me is super excited about hockey. If we only win 2 medals, I want them to be gold in Men's and Women's hockey.
Love Olympics! I'm not quite as excited about these Olympics as I normally am but I'm still going to watch. We're having some friends over tonight to watch the opening ceremonies and I'm sure we'll watch plenty of the events in the next few weeks.
My very favorite event is the Boardercross. I like to snowboard and I enjoy the racing aspect of the boardercross more than I like the halfpipe and such. I also like the sports you don't normally see like Biathlon and Bobsled, etc.
Things I don't like include most figure skating events. Not because they're not cool but because I feel so bad for people when they fall and then the interviewers get all in their face and ask stoopid questions like "How do you feel about falling on your face in front of millions in the most important moment of your life that you've worked for every day for decades????!?" Gah!
The Olympics is the only time I care about sports. Right now, our antenna isn't hooked up, but I got DH to promise that we'll get it done tonight (our TV mount blocks the connection, but we have to figure something out) so we can watch any and all sports CBC chooses to broadcast. I always enjoy the skiing - couldn't tell you why - and the figure skating/ice dancing.

I love the Olympics! I am looking forward to the slopestyle, snowboard and ski cross, halfpipe and figure skating especially Ice Dance!! Go Tessa and Scott repeat the gold!!
I love the Olympics! I watch everything. My favorite is probably figure skating. Anyone else see that kid from Japan kill it last night? His jumps were amazing!
I really love watching the Olympics, but I'm feeling very torn about watching this year.
I know what you mean. I've thought about this. For me, watching the Olympics is about supporting my country's athletes, not the hosting country's politics. In a way, maybe it's almost a good thing Russia is hosting. SO MANY people will be watching and I'm sure the media will be keeping a magnifying glass on all the shit that's been going on there.

I suppose. But I don't think the Russian government really cares if the rest of the world sees how the LGBT community is treated there. I just have a hard watching something that is helping their country out so much.
Not huge into the sports (besides figure skating, and maybe snowboarding). But I'm definitely watching the news to see how big of a cluster fuck Russia ends up turning this into. (I totally called it like 6 months ago). Call me negative Nelly I suppose, but my feeling is shits about to get even crazier over there than it already is.
I like to watch the figure skating and hockey, but in general, I find the Olympics drawn out and a little boring.
Also, I thought it was a little odd that one of their political commentators said in an interview last night "If there are no major terrorist attacks, then this will be considered a successful Olympics." (Not a direct quote, but something along those lines.) Um, what?

@beestimesthree I saw that, too. That guy was very pro-Putin and praising him for moving Russia forward. I think he's a Russian ex-pat so his comments were coming from a very different point of view.
I am looking forward to seeing some hockey!!! I also want Germany to win a gold every so often b/c from what I understand my transit is free the next day. Day trip?!
I love the Olympics. I love the philosophy of the Olympics (there have been some problems with execution, but you know...) I love the national pride and the camaraderie between the athletes.
GO CANADA GO!! (not my kid...but this will be my little guy next Olympics!)
I am more of a summer Olympics kind of girl but I have the theater gene, so I am all about the opening ceremonies. This years design was done by an NYC based Broadway production designer...so I must absolutely watch.
I am having a real tough time with the Russian politics problem this year too. I see Putin, I want to scream. That guy rubs me the wrong way on so many levels.
I did enjoy the fact that the first "soft protest" at the games came from a Russian athlete, snowboarder Alexei Sobolev. How punk rock is that!?!
I missed the opening stuff last night but I'm looking forward to watching the snowboarding stuff. Oh, and I happened to just redo Alyson Dudek's website, so I have to watch her too. She does speed skating
Love the snowboarding, Hockey, luge and bobsled. But I will admit how terrible of a person I am and say I'm also interested to see how badly the Sochi/Russian and Olympic officials will spin the conditions and lack of completion of accommodations there. I have a bad feeling this could be a very embarrassing games for the IOC.
I'm super excited! Having a hard time staying off the internet today because photos are leaking of the opening ceremonies and it's making me mad. (Duh I get it - they're 10 hrs ahead of me, shit happens.) We've watched opening ceremonies with DH family for the past 3 Olympics so we're getting together tonight for the ceremonies.
It's going to be so fun being pregnant too because I'll get less judging faces from DH when I slip on pjs, eat pudding and tell all the athletes how good/bad they are because hormones you know? GO USA!

I love watching the Olympics, but I don't care for NBC coverage. I grew up in the Detroit area and we got a few Canadian channels. They spoiled me! I've been falling asleep on the couch between 8 and 9 every night, so I'll be missing out the NBC tape-delayed stuff.
Love the olympics! I used to pretend to be Kristi Yamaguchi when I was younger and was determined to become a figure skater. That changed when I realized I am an uncoordinated spaz, but hey, a girl can dream.
Obviously, love figure skating, and the skiing and snowboarding. I'm excited about women's ski jumping this year. And, apparently DH loves curling which was odd news to me.
February Siggy Challenge - Picture of You and DH. Us with our engagement pumpkins. DH carved each word of "Will You Marry Me" and the date 10/11/12 into five dfferent pumpkins.
I'm really intrigued to see if they are able to pull it off. From the construction issues to the protests and terror threats - I find it very intriguing.
Am willing to place a bet that some athlete will make a public statement of support for the LGBT community (but of course, not until their event is over) - possibly during a medal presentation. Really want to see how Russia handles that when the world is watching.

I can't wait for the opening tonight

Me me me! That whole mess was pure drama.
Was this also the same time Nancy's laces broke after she started her routine and they let her start over? Cause that was weird too.
The opening ceremonies!!!!!!
I am loving the ballets and the fact that they are using music from the movie Tron!
