Success after IF

WWYD?

I've worked in preschool for many years.  Now I'm a part time assistant so I can stay home with my girls during the day.

Anyway, I recieved christmas presents from the kids today and they were very nice but one really touched me.  It was a check for $10 from a family whose Daddy just lost his job (he was laid off).  I've thought about not cashing the check but I don't want them to think I didn't want it.  I know it's only $10 but they may need it more than I do.

Re: WWYD?

  • I'd cash it. They obviously really wanted to give you something, and they wouldn't give it if they didn't want to (because, really, let's face it you don't HAVE to give preschool teachers gifts). I think they'd be sad if you never cashed it.

  • I was talking to my Mother about a similar situation today. My little bro and sis are in college and don't have a lot of money and I didn't want them to have to buy gifts for me because it makes me feel guilty.

The way my mother put it really hit home. She said, "Don't take away the joy of giving."

In that spirit, I'd cash it and then write a very heartfelt thank you note.

  • I would also cash it. I had this conversation with my mom about a check that was given to me. Remember they chose to give you the check it might embarrass them by not cashing it. Like pp said they did not have to give you anything, they wanted to.

  • if it were me, I'd cash it and send a thank you note. They wanted to give you a gift and would probably be offended if you didn't cash it.
  • is there a way you could cash the check and use the cash to buy something for them?  like a little toy or some treats?  or would your employer not approve of giving gifts to the kids?
