My UO is that the Olympic athletes should be ashamed of themselves to know hundreds if not thousands of innocent stray dogs are being killed so they can play a sport.
""I think CVS recognized that it was just paradoxical to be both a seller of deadly products and a healthcare provider," U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden told Reuters."
However, if they are saying they want to follow suit with being a "wellness" center isn't it "paradoxical" that they still sell candy, soda, energy drinks, and other junk food? I truly think that tobacco wasn't a massive part of their sales (in comparison to everything else they sell) so they figured they'd look "good" in regards of healthwise.

WHAT?!?! I don't know details, but can I just say that Russia really seems to be messing it up. Did you see the story on the news about how people are trading for basic items that should be in their hotel rooms? Like lightbulbs and doorknobs!
I haven't. I have tried tuning out all Olympic stories since I read the article about the dogs on Tuesday. I read it at work, felt sick to my stomach, and haven't been able to get it off my mind. They showed pictures of these innocent dogs walking around, people petting and feeding them, and now a pest management company has been hired to kill them all.
I don't know that the athletes should shoulder the blame for that. That just came out in the news in the last week and these athletes have trained for years. It's not their fault Russia has a different way of dealing with things.

I didn't say they should be blamed, I said they should be ashamed. Obviously it's not their fault or decision. As an animal lover, I know that if animals were being killed so I could do something, I would feel awful.
This is a really lame one but...
I like the taste of tap water
@LAMuehlen I used to love tap water when I lived in MA, however... I have town water in VT and it's awful, even after being filtered. It's so filled with lead from the old piping system from the pond that it filters from. The natural spring in our back yard is fresher tasting (after being filtered of course.).

@truebeliever925 you must not live anywhere near me. I'm in MA and our tap water is DISGUSTING.

I agree! Right on CVS. I may need to make them my pharmacy of choice now.

I lived in Georgetown. Near by you. I LOVEEEED our tap water when I was younger. It has gotten pretty gross in the last 10 years though.
(eta: my mom still lives there. I'll emphasis it is really gross now. and also, I swear I'm not a creeper. I just remember when we were pregnant doing a GTKY post and you were near by.)

@Truebeliever925 Ive noticed tap water does change taste based on location. When i lived on a farm and we had well water we didnt drink the tap water, living out in southern oregon if we drank tap water first thing in the morning it had a weird taste from the geothermal springs. But where i currentley live it tastes good
I don't think "themes" with names are cute i.e. all kids names start with the same letter, all virtue or flower names, all from a certain movie. And it looks even more silly on adult siblings.

It's super sad but unfortunately it happens often when big events go to new places. When Miss Universe went to San Juan, Puerto Rico the same thing was done And they also bused the homeless people out of the city for the week of the event.
I think it's absolutely terrible and the athletes should be putting pressure on the Olympic committee for making such a poor and heartbreaking decision.
I am a tap water fan as well! But only some taps. I hate my water at home, but love it the next town over! I am one of those people who can distinguish between different types of bottled water. Fiji is gross, Dasani is the best. Kroger water a close second!
I also love disani. And why the hell is fiji water so expensive? It doesnt taste that gold? Is it made out of angel tears or something?

Fiji and Dasani taste like salty plastic to me. If I must have bottled water, I want Ice Mountain.

I don't get it, it tastes like bad tap water to me. I guess it's so expensive cause they have to fly in the bad tap water from Fiji?
My UO: I think ecigs are equally as gross as real cigarettes.
How? They don't have a foul lingering odor. I'd much prefer no cigarettes, but if I am going to be around them, I'd much prefer an ecig.
I think it has to do with the physical motion of smoking (cigarette to mouth - puff)... whether real or fake it grosses me out. My brain is just programmed to think CANCER!! CANCER!!

I agree that it is disgusting and awful but I think the IOC/Russia should be more ashamed than anyone else. If I were an athlete I certainly wouldn't like it, and would even speak out against it but beyond that, I don't know what the athletes can do. Russia also has a very negative history(and present) with gay rights, political issues, etc. Why the games are being held there at all is beyond me.

I agree, it is great that they aren't selling them anymore but I think their reasoning (because they are a health provider) is a little hypocritical when they still sell soda/candy/junk.
I guess my UO is about people being upset about the mass killings of stray dogs in russia. This happens here, and I wish more people put that outrage into helping out at home (if not already.) We euthanize over 3 million animals here, and put a curtain around it to cover it up/pretend it doesn't happen here too.
I'm not saying the previous posts don't realize it happens here...I'm just frustrated seeing people on FB complain about russia and now here on the bump too...If we all really care as much as we say then help make sure animals get spayed, neutered, adopt, foster, volunteer or donate...and stop pretending like it doesn't happen here.
@TrueBeliever925, she's definitely talented. I'm not taking that away from her. But I still can't stand her. And @revez maybe. I did read her dress for the Grammy's was a size 2. Really? With those curves? Bitch.

I read an anti-PETA article saying that they euthanize dogs and cats on a regular basis. I didn't do any research into the facts, so I can't say for sure what was accurate in the article or not. But I was surprised.
Edit: words didn't make it out of my mind onto the screen.

I don't understand many of the different countries being chosen for the Olympics. Beijing is a mystery to me also. Apparently Russia has already spent $51 billion on the Olympics and they're not actually ready for them yet.
Agreed that I think the athletes have little power in this situation. I'm sure most of them feel terrible about it, along with the other issues that Russia has been involved with over the last few years. I'm not sure what the IOC's screening process consists of, but it seems to have a few flaws.
@emeraldeyes315 Ugh. I am well aware of the problems here and do my part to donate, spread the word, and networks pets on euthanasia lists all over the country.
Unfortunately the daily euthanizations are not discussed in the news here. The mass killings in Russia made the news and that's why people, including myself, are upset about it. For me it is the fact that stupid sports are behind the reason for it. And the fact that they hired pest management breaks my heart.

I prefer smart water. I used to like Dasani the best and that is what we have at work. Smart water has the least amount of flavor to me so I think that is why I like it. We use a Brita pitcher at home and it really helps with the taste of the tap water.
