  Agree with @oohgurl about the FBI agent with their gun on them.....but concealed! Like I mentioned, I have a mom to one of my students who sometimes stops in for lunch at our elementary school. I know she carries her gun, but I've never seen it since she wears blazers, etc. that cover it at all times.

  Not sure about other states, but here officers are required to carry their firearms at all times. Even when they are off duty. However, it certainly doesn't have to be open carry.
  
  ETA: I should have said my local agency, I am unsure about the whole stsate. I assume this would vary from agency to agency.
