Weird Quirks

DH and I were discussing this last night so I thought I would share our weird quirks and see if you and your DH have any...

DH thinks it is weird that I can't look at ketchup without gagging, have to have all my food not touching (unless I mix it), and that I pour milk into my ice cream bowl/cup whenever I eat ice cream.

I find it very weird that my DH cannot buy socks, underwear, or undershirts because he is freaked out by that aisle.  I have to buy these things for him.  He says it makes him feel weird that men in their underwear are staring at him while he tries to look!  He is a weirdo.

  • The only one of those that isn't strange to me is that you put milk in your ice cream...I do that too! Soooo yummy!

What is this milk in ice cream nonsense all about?! What am I missing?!
It makes it similar to a milkshake! And kind of freezes the ice cream into little ice chunks...just try it, it's nothing weird!

  • I don't put milk in my ice cream but I do put it in the mircrowave for about 10 seconds. I don't like it so frozen lol.

My DH does this weird thing when he drinks liquid. He swishes it around in his mouth before he swallows it. He says it's so he can taste it better. So strange!

  • My husband just told me that he always uses a stall when he goes to the bathroom. He only uses the urinal if the stall is occupied. This seems so strange to me. How did I not know this after 7 years haha

ETA I have to eat ice cream in a mug. I just have too, with milk aswell.

I hope it's cause you don't follow him into the men's room! :D

  • If I go to use a public restroom and there is no toilet seat cover available (looking at you target) I'll make my own.
    Always!

  • I brush my teeth with warm water. Everything my FI does is weird. He doesn't like the fact I fold socks with bunny ears...at least they're folded!

My DH does this too and then complains when cold water hurts his teeth. I tell him to not swish it around and he claims he doesn't but he does! Weirdo.

He also wears his crocs like they are slippers. He will strip down to his undies in our closet before bed, put his crocs back on, walk across the bedroom to the bed and then take them off and get into bed. This is a new quirk and it drives me nuts because its so senseless.

I love milk on icecream occasionally, not weird.

  • My SO pointed out to me that when I brush my teeth in the shower I put my left arm up as if I'm giving a lame high-5.

  • I can't handle being a minute late to anything. I get an anxiety attack in the car if I feel we might be late and DH is driving...I feel liks he is going sooo slow (he's not)

I like to wear a cami underneath because I feel naked without something under my shirt.

This is so me. I can't be late even if I try except when me and SO have to be somewhere together - I swear he always makes me late!

Camies are thebom.com. I literally wear one everyday. I, too, feel naked without one.

  • I always have to wear a tank top under a shirt too.  When SO eats, he focuses on eating one food at a time: like all of his peas, then all potatoes or whatever, then the entree; whereas I go back and forth.  I think its so weird. I can't think of a weird quirk of mine, although I'm sure I have one.

I can't stand being late, either. When I was in school, if I was going to be late to class (usually because the parking situation at school was impossible), I'd just turn around and leave. I'd break down into tears in the parking lot while waiting for a space to open up. I actually took a year off from school because that anxiety was causing me to fail my classes. I couldn't bring myself to walk into the classroom after the class had started, because I didn't want to disrupt the class for that moment. When I went back, I registered for the first classes of the day, then showed up nearly an hour early when the parking lot was still empty.

Other weird quirks- when I'm stopped at a train, I have to count the number of engines and the number of cars. I don't dot my i's, that floating dot really bothers me. When I carry cash, the bills have to be neatly arranged, sorted by denomination, series, and serial number. I love counting change, and almost never spend it because I like to wait until I have at least $70 worth saved up so I can count it all.

I brush my teeth with warm water too and my H thinks I'm a freak! Glad I'm not alone on this! Lol!
  • I hate ketchup. Won't ever eat it

I'm on team microwave ice cream to 10 seconds. I also always wear a cami, and I eat all of one food before I go to the next.

My DH will not do anything outside once he takes his shoes off. So if he has to now the lawn it's done the minute he gets home. Same with shoveling or snow blowing. If he has to go outside after his shows are off I.E. Forgot the trash he will go out barefoot. Except in the dead of winter he will wear his slip on sandals. The same goes for his gum shorts once they are I even if it's -60 he will take the garbage out in his shorts.

ETA - I put ketchup on scrambled eggs. My DH and his friends say that is "weird".

  • I double check that my flat iron is unplugged in the morning, and the check stove knobs at night. I'm scared I will burn down the house or die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

my god none of this surprises me. none of it.

  • Ditto the camis/undershirts. I just don't feel covered enough without one. My FI is also a one food at a time eater, drives me nuts.

I brush my teeth with warm water as well, my dentist told me it would help soften the bristles of my tooth brush just a little bit and that it was better for my teeth to not have a "hard" brush.

Its kind of ocd but I need the microwave to be on the clock time and not any time remaining. At home, at work, doesn't matter if it isn't on, the clock should be.

  • @brittanycupcakes I would classify those things as a little OCD.

I can't do repetitive noises - blinkers, clicky pens, fingers tapping. I know it's OCD/anxiety related because it's worse if I'm feeling stressed.

Can't stand hearing people whistle. It's what the serial killers do before they kill. At least in my mind. Although, I have started whistling since I had dd so maybe I'm over that.

  • I'm so glad we are all weird! LOL

I seriously want to get a cardboard cut out of Michael Jordan in his Hanes in life size and put it in our bedroom as a prank for DH.  It is the most ridiculous thing ever.

If I want a glass of water at home, I have to fill the glass, empty it, and then refill. Not sure why. Our dishes are clean and water is fine, so I dunno.

And I cannot sit and listen to anybody eat a banana... I have to leave the room. No joke.
  • @jalee85 I do ketchup in eggs, ketchup on Mac and cheese and mayo on pizza. Apparently I am a freak! ;)

I also brush with warm water!

DH takes his socks off by shuffling his feet across the floor. I hate it!!

  • I have this weird thing where I won't touch bowls in the sink with dirty water in them.  I will throw up.

  • My dh has a crooked lines thing too! He needs items arranged on a table to be parallel/perpendicular to the sides.  No diagonals.

One of mine is that I always lock the car door 2-3 times, even if I remember having locked it. Don't do this with the house or anything else, just the car. I did have a car broken into once but that was through the canvas convertible top and was locked.. I know this makes no sense.

Another is I have very elaborate rules for outside clothes vs. inside clothes - and only the latter are allowed on or in the bed.  Living in the city and taking the subway, etc I thought it was common sense not to lean on my pillow with that stuff at night but dh did not see it the same way so I outlined rules which are now constantly evolving for various situations... For example we have a dog who would technically be equivalent to outside clothes but has her own blanket on top of our quilt so it's ok as long as she stays there.  He thinks it's arbitrary but I get really grossed out when they are broken!
  • I chew my straws, its subconscious at this point.

If Im shopping online Im addicted to searching for a promo code.  It could take me an hour but I keep searching.

When I eat a lollipop I like to dip it in ice water.

  • Apparently I smell everything. I don't notice it but DH laughs at me.

     ***All AL'ers Welcome***

  • A lot of things DH does weirds the shit out of me. He moans while he chews, he chews straws, he does this weird shit with his shirt where he pulls the collar above his mouth. He also snores like a MF freight train.

I know I'm far from normal myself. I also always wear a cami under everything. I cannot sleep next to a window (I'm a scaredy cat). My OCD habit is I MUST load the dishwasher because I have a certain pattern for all the things.

  • My DH does the pull collar over mouth thing. It usually when he is getting anxious over a video game. He is pretty competitive.

  • Another person for team "my food can't touch!"

Also, I don't like cheese on sandwiches unless it's a warm sandwich (grilled cheese is ok, for example).

Also, no tomatoes on sandwiches. It makes them soggy and gross. Yuck!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I have a ton of OCD oddities: I too have the dishwasher problem and will actually rearrange things if they are not in order. This problem extends to my cupboards.

I have a Saturday & Sunday mug that can't be used on any other day or for anything other than coffee.

I buy kitchen towels according to task so I have hand towels, counter top wiping ones and dish drying ones. If someone mixes them up I freak out.

There are a lot of 'rules' at my house. I could go on forever. But I come by it honestly- my mom was an insane OCD sahm.

As for oddities: while pregnant I would make noises when I ate and didn't even realize it. It's gone away since.

I can't sleep next to a window when at a hotel or at someone's home/cottage, but at home I sleep next to one because the bathroom door is on the other side and I can't sleep next to a toilet.

  • When grocery shopping,I have to get the second or third item, not the first. MH always thought that was strange.
  • I have a baby blanket that I still refer to as my "blankie." The toilet paper roll has to be the correct way (over) and I will switch it no matter where I'm at. Also, I alphabetize my DVDs. I'm an organizational freak.

DH also has issues with the correct way to put the toilet paper and his DVD's are alphabetized by genre!
