Poor Appetite

Hi ladies. I am wondering if anyone has had lack of appetite since delivery. I have just recently noticed how I haven't been eating as much as I usually am used to. It is not because I don't have time but I just don't have the appetite I once had. I have always been an all day snacker and now when I feel like I should be making myself eat I don't know what I want. Before pregnancy I was one who always gave into cravings and considered myself a foodie. Im wondering if anyone else has noticed this with themselves. I was going to ask at my 6 week pp checkup, but that isn't for another 2 weeks. Funny thing is I haven't noticed weight loss either which I would assume would come with the lack of snacking. Even at supper I don't know what to make and when I finally throw something together so my husband will have something to eat I'm not hungry.

Re: Poor Appetite

  • I feel hungry sometimes, but a lot of the time I look up and realize it's 3pm and I've either not eaten or just had a bowl of cereal or granola bar, I'm thirstier than ever tho.I keep a few snacks in our room so I can grab something quick while nursing or whatever, if I've realized I haven't eaten.

  • Yes, I had this problem last week. A lot of ladies here responded and said that it has to do with your hormones. I hope you get your appetite back soon!

  • Yes!! I love food and have been forcing myself to eat. I hate it. With BF I'm trying to make sure I eat and drink enough but it's hard. It's much better than it was but I think hormones and exhaustion and baby priorities have a lot to do with it!

This too shall pass... My motto for life right now!!
  • @kmd03000 I'm in the same boat. Omg when it first happened I literally had a panic attack! Crazy how all these things happen that you had no idea about. Hope you regain your appetite fully soon!

  • Glad to know I'm not the only one. Makes sense about how it could be hormones. It really is crazy how much changes after delivery and the things I never knew came with being postpartum! Thanks for the replies ladies!
  • That was me the first two weeks! I would barely touch dinner because nothing tasted or sounded good. I ended up just snacking throughout the day. 4 weeks pp and my appetite is back.

  • I'm actually the complete opposite. I have to make P&J sandwiches etc to eat in the middle if the night between feedings cause I'm starving!!!!
  • I feel the same. I have to make myself eat and often hours pass and I realized I haven't eaten. Like pp had stated, I am thirstier than I have ever been and try to drink a tall glass of water with each feed.

  • I had this too.  I lost 30 pounds in my first 12 days after delivery.  I was excited about that!  However, I read that rapid weight loss can effect my milk supply, so I have been making myself eat every couple of hours even if I am not hungry.  Baby is now 4 weeks and I do get hungry now, but not like when I was in my 3rd trimester.
  • I had zero appetite after both my kids. I attribute it to the anxiety that follows after having a baby. It's slowly starting to come back at 5 weeks pp.
  • I didn't have an appetite for about 4 weeks after DS was born. It has gradually come back.  Unfortunately all I want to eat is junk. :(
