Names, Names, Names

Anyone else not have their names picked out yet?  I finally got my husband to sit down with me last weekend and come up with some name combinations for our twin boys.  Without the addition of his first name pick of Aslan (that's right, like the lion from the Narnia series), thank goodness.  We have nine name combinations that we need to narrow down to four.  Starting to feel a little panicky.

  • We still can't agree on a name, though we have a few contenders. There's still plenty of time!

  • I'm indecisive and have name commitment fears so we have a name but haven't completely settled on it.

    LOL!
  • Still no agreement on a first name, here, either.  I managed to get DH off of Casper (yes, like the ghost), but my names DH isn't terribly fond of.  Baby isn't gonna have a name til he's here, but I'm not too worried yet.

With Dd we didn't decide for sure until she was born! we had a top 3. With this one we cant even agree on 1 name, let alone 3 to put on a list!

  • We don't have ours finalized, but we do have the FN narrowed down to pretty much 2 names, and we're still tossing around a couple MN ideas.

We started with a list of about 15 FN options, and a couple other names we liked but thought would be better MN options. A couple names from the FN list made their way to the MN list as we slowly worked the list down. We cut the FN list down a couple different ways, First we each made our top 10, which cut about half the names off because we kept only what was in those two lists. We talked about what was left, and removed a couple more getting us to about 5 names. We each put those 5 in order, and we had the same top 3.

We did each step a couple weeks apart from each other to give each of us time to mull over the names, see what names we had been thinking of more, that kind of thing. We noticed that when we would talk about the names, we mostly referred to 2 of them and usually didn't mention the 3rd, so that name has pretty much become a MN option now.

It's a huge decision though! After the first round of cuts, I felt like we had just completed a mental marathon! That's why we're taking it step by step so we don't feel overwhelmed or one allow the other to push the other towards a name or one cave in, etc. We want to choose a name we are both very happy with. And to think you have to choose two names! If we were having twin girls, we'd have both FN's set, since that's about where we are at. We have already said that if we had a 2nd girl, at this time we know we would be very happy to use whichever of the 2 we don't use with this LO.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I loved the name Hailee But DH didn't really care for it so we settled on a different first and middle name for her. It was picked out for months and 5pm the night she was born he said I could name her Hailee if I wanted to. So for 2 days in the hospital she was referred to by the docs as Baby Girl (my maiden name). So we finally decided to name her Hailee but then he didn't like Mackenzie which is what i wanted for the middle. But finally we decided on something and I'm so glad we decided to change it because Hailee totally fits her, probably better then the original choice.

  • But this time around we both agree on the first name but not the middle and since I got the majority vote of our DD he said he gets the majority vote of this LO but luckily I love the name he suggested. He's not too keen on the middle name I want but we'll see lol

  • We don't have a name yet, and I'm not worried about it. My baby's not due for another 15 weeks. That's more than enough time to come up with a name. I don't like the idea of committing to a name too far in advance anyway. Sometimes a name just doesn't fit, and you don't know it till the baby is born.

You even have a certain amount of time after the baby arrives before the hospital and govt require you to settle on and record a name.

  • We don't either. We have 5 that we have compromised on to consider. My #1 is his #5 but my mother HATES it and constantly asks me not to pick it. She tells me about how she tells her friends what the name is and they all hate it too. My friends all love it and would tell me otherwise. This is why I didn't want to tell my family.... Thanks DH for blurting it out at Christmas.

We are having a tough time. Her MN is set, but we have 3 choices for a FN.  None of them are just leaping out at me.  We may have to wait until we see her.  Although, the thought of this makes me really stressed, I don't know why!  We knew the boys names before they were even conceived.

  • Not even close. We have pretty much settled on a boy name. But girls. Noooope.
I have just convinced myself it's a boy so we won't have to worry about girls names.

  • We aren't even close to an agreement and its becoming a big fight. We have VERY different ideas and tastes. The names he likes sound trashy to me. The names I like sound "old" to him. So. We've been through 3000+ names and have nothing. It's starting to stress me out.

  • We definitely are going to have 4 names for when they arrive.  That way we can decide which fits each baby best.  Middle names are already decided, John and James, since those are our fathers names.

@RedInLove I like the idea of ranking the ones we have so far and see where each of us puts them.  That's a great idea for a next narrowing down step. :)

@mollynicole214 We aren't telling anyone our names until they're born and it's on the birth certificate.  You ladies are lucky I'm telling you the middle names. ;)

@MissLadyTay That's how I felt when we first started what we refer to as the 'Great Debate.'  My husband had a formula that went: all first names that meant Lion, and then family middle name, famous thinker middle name, famous conqueror/adventurer middle name, last name.  I think at one point on his list there was Aslan Richard Copernicus Vasilli Rowse.  Needless to say I was a little speechless.

  • We have a list of zero narrowed down. I suppose we will name him in about 13 weeks when he gets here. DH and I just can't find a name we both love, and I'm having trouble commiting anyways.
  • We have narrowed it down to 2 girls names and 3 boys. MN is going to be same as mine or DH depending in baby being a boy or girl. We are just going to leave it at that and wait until LO arrives now then make a final decision.
  • We have 2 boys names picked out and they have some similarities. My hubby loves the one name more and I'm really stuck between the two....ah well 3 months to get it figured out! Lol

  • We don't know but have a couple ideas. DH just likes top 10 names and I'm a teacher so that won't be happening.

I think if you can narrow it down to 2 or 3 names you all will be good to go because as soon as the LO 'a get here it will be easier to decide between the names you chose.
  • We didn't have too much trouble this time around. DH didn't fight any of my choices this time around so it was easy. Last time we had a really hard time choosing names. DH was very picky so (because we're super big nerds) we ended up making an excel spreadsheet with a formula based on how much we liked a name and the ssa's statistics for how popular the name was. We then opened up the floor for votes from our families because we just couldn't decide and added their votes into the formula. It worked and I think we picked good names, but I'm thankful we were able to come up with Oliver and Caroline fairly easily this time around.

  • Not even close. We had a few girls names we loved, but no boys names. We cant agree on anything. He is set on one name and I really don't like it. Every one I suggest, he thinks is just ok. I have a contest going on at work for people to come up with name ideas. I am just hoping to have a top three list once he gets here.

Brooke Elizabeth, my husband came up with the first name and I came up with the middle name.

  • We haven't even talked about it. I am not worried, with our DS we didn't pick a name until I was 8 months pregnant.

  • We had DS's name picked out within the first month of dating. :P I thought we were good for a girl name this time, but the one we picked out just didn't feel quite right. I really want to name her Molly, but that was vetoed immediately. We have another name picked out now that I love, but we're going to wait until we see her to make a final decision. I knew this baby was going to be a girl because we had such an easy time picking out a second boy name. :)
  • We have nothing. H refuses to talk about it, as he is in denial that we have 13 weeks left. We won't actually name her until we meet her, but it would be nice to have a Top 5 before we head to the hospital...
  • I have started stressing a little bit. We don't like each other's favorites, but there are 3-4 we both like. Part of me wants to wait to meet her, but there is some cute stuff out there to be monogrammed!

  • DH won the battle of the names.. I got to make Anne her middle name though.. ( mine and my mom's) the Lee in Emilee is his mom's middle. It all worked out. I guess since DH was younger he always wanted a girl more and had the name picked out already haha

  • we've discussed names a few times but we're nowhere near deciding on something for sure!!

With DD we didn't decide 100% until after she was born.
