1st Trimester

FWIW: You're probably not gonna care

If you poop on the table during labor. Well, I take that back, some pp might (maybe if you have an epi and can't feel anything?)

But, if you're going all out, no drugs or can feel the pain of labor, the last thing you'll be thinking about is pooping.

I'm not gonna lie, I thought the same thing way back but if it happens, it happens. Besides, they just wipe it away =D

Re: FWIW: You're probably not gonna care

  • I've actually been thinking about this quite a lot preparing myself for the fact that it will probably happen. Oh, well! There are worse things that could happen. If I give birth in a water tub, will it just float around!!!??? Ooooh... Not pleasant to think about! But kind of funny.

And on the eighth day, God made pool skimmers

  • I know the medical staff sees it, but I still keep trying to think of ways to prevent it --- like, if I only drink liquids after my last BM before due-date or something.  **BEFORE ANYONE FLAMES ME, I REALIZE THAT IS JUST A PIPE-DREAM....I know that if it happens, it happens, and I won't care in the end, but in my CURRENT state, it's embarassing to think about it happening.
  • That is funny....you'd be hanging out in your poop.....I'm going natural, but not in a tub.
  • Oh man, I have to admit that that is one of my biggest (and stupidest) fears of the birth ... I told my DH not to tell me, or anyone else when it happens. But its just the type of thing he'll jump all over & think hilarious. I think he won't be able to keep himself from laughing and giving it away ...
  • Yep...this is my secret fear as well.
  • I am dreading this as well.  I was talking to my Mom about how gross and embarrasing it would be and she said not to worry, they give you medicine so that doesn't happen.  But I've never heard that, now I'm thinking she just told me that so I wouldn't think about it!
  • I swear its not a big deal :)  The nurses/OB don't tell you, they just remove those papers from the table.  I hadn't eaten or had anything to drink for about 24 hours (just ice chips) and I still did.  I had to ask DH afterwards if it happened and he almost wouldn't tell me!  It was the last thing on my mind.  The good news is... if you do poop, then you are pushing correctly!

  • ummm...I'm gonna be drugged up so I'm gonna tell my dr not to tell me if it happens lol

  • haha i've thought about this too and hoped that i could get it all out before the birth. my mother said they could give you an enima if you wanted....something i also wouldn't want to think about either!
  • It's an embarrassing thought, but I know when it comes down to it, there will be other more important things going on to even care. This story may be TMI, but my best friend did when she had her daughter-- She thought someone had food in the room or was cooking. Lol. When she asked (there were probably ten people in the room, including the nurses and her family), the nurse said "It's ok sweetie, you just had a bowel movement. It's completely normal." A little embarrassing, but we laugh about it now.?

My mom said they offered enemas when I was born also, but from what I've heard I don't think they offer them anymore. I don't know which is worse, the enema or pooping on the table... Oh well, I'll worry about it (or not) when the time comes.

  • I was wondering about this. Interesting. Wow, I sure hope I can poop before labor.

  • My grandmother told me that when I was 18.  I'm still not sure why she told me.  She also mentioned that her last meal before having one of her kids was BEANS.  I'm sure the doctor and staff were not happy to deal with that.
  • A friend of mine has 7 children & is very proud that she pooed with each of them. She said the doctors praised her because she was using the right pushing muscles. I havent told my hubby this may happen, Im scared. He wont care, but I think its so gross.
  • I've had three, all with epidurals, and I had no clue whether I pooped or not.  I didn't ask, no one told me, and it was the LAST thing on my mind during the pushing phase, even though I technically couldn't feel any pain (tons of pressure though).  I figure I probably did, especially since I can push pretty effectively (I HATE pushing, so I get it over with as quickly as possible! lol).

It's not something pleasant to think about, but you really won't care at the time.
