Maybe a tmi question.....

My fiancé and I had sex the other night and I woke up at 3 am having contractions. It's been 2 days and I am still having them occasionally. Today I just feel like crap and my stomach feel very full. Should I be concerned? Baby is moving like it normally does. And the contractions are not near as bad as the other night. It's just been 9 years since I was pregnant and I didn't have any of this with my son. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated :)

Re: Maybe a tmi question.....

  • That would be a question to call and ask your doctor, that's what they're there for.

  • I did. She is off till friday. They told me if I feel like it to go to l/d but I was really hoping to not do that as I hate l/d which Is why I am working during if anyone else has had this happen.
  • Are they regular, can you time them? Or are they random?

  • Yesterday they where 3-4 an hour. Today more random but still 2-3 an hour but today I just feel like blah and pukey.
  • Yeaaaah, go see a dr. It doesn't have to be your own.

Seriously, if I were you I'd be looking for a professional opinion and not an Internet based one.

Chances are everything is fine, but I would definitely get checked out if just for peace of mind. That's what the med professionals are there for.

Let us know how it goes.

  • Thanks I will go in. Just not sure when because I have all of the kids till tomorrow and taking them is not fun....
  • Even when mine is off, there is always an on-call doctor available. You can also head up to L&D, which is most likely what an on-call doctor might tell you because they have no way of knowing what is going on via the phone.

  • I ditto the "head to L&D" comments.  That's where we were planning on heading the other night when I was having what-felt-like real contractions.  Doc said if it happens again I am to go to L&D even if they stop.  Mine were very painful and I could time them and the time between them -- they were lasting 1-2 minutes every 9-10 minutes.  Be careful with yourself and baby! Even if it's nothing, better they look.

  • That seems like an odd response from your doctor ("if you're worried go to L&D"), meaning, I'd be looking for a little more direction from them since they are the doctor's office after all! Anyway, I'd either call back to let them know the contractions have lessened but are still happening, and see if they recommend you go in to L&D or not. I think I'd go in at this point to either the OB's office or L&D and would not wait any longer if it's been happening for days.

  • I agree with going in to be seen on this one, better to be safe then go into preterm labor. Are they 2-3 an hour each hour or is it 2-3 an hour maybe in the morning then going away and happening again?

Again I would go in, even if your doctor isn't back in until Friday. A person here could have similar symptoms but different outcomes.
  • 2-3 an hour but they have lightened up for sure. I have heard having sex can trigger this but I never had sex when I was pregnant with my son. And my fiance and I don't do it to often due to our schedules so this was a first since the baby started moving. If they continue today I will go in. I just had to drive my boys to school and here in michigan we are under white out conditions. Took me 2 hours to get the boys 4 miles so I would rather not drive 15 miles to my hospital right now but I did make an appointment for fri with my ob.....
  • You're willing to drive your kids in those conditions but don't want to drive yourself to the hospital? Smh.

  • Didn't realize how bad the roads where till I was in it and now most freeways are closed around me. After watching multiple cars spin out and go into snow banks on my way home damn straight I'm choosing to stay in rather then try to get to a hospital right this second.
  • @krysfran1979 so how are you feeling? Did the contractions go away or did you have to go to the hospital?
  • I went in even though they lightened up. Baby is fine. They said pretty much that sex caused the contractions. So no more of that for awhile. My body can not handle it :/ have an appointment fri with my ob and the hospital suggested that i be monitored weekly to be safe.
