Valentines Day

Are any of you doing anything special for DH/DW/FI/SO for Valentines?  This year we're planning on going to a nice dinner to celebrate our little bean- we have a favorite place to go within walking distance of our house for special occasions, and haven't been there since we found out.

I also want to get him a little something, or make him a little something, special this year.  It's our last as a twosome so I'd rather focus on him than giving something "from the LO" but I'm just stumped beyond making a custom basket of his favorite chocolates.

Re: Valentines Day

  • We don't generally make a big deal out of valentine's day. We usually do a date night sometime that week, but not on actual Valentine's Day. This year, I don't think we'll have a sitter, so I'm guessing we'll just say Happy Valentine's Day and that's it. Kind of sad, I guess.

  • We are going out to a nice dinner for Valentine's day for pretty much the same reasons you are. Also, we have our A/S exam on Valentine's day too so it's a big day to celebrate…love, finding out sex of the baby, etc. I'm going to fill a small box/basket full of his favorite candy and chocolates and a custom made t-shirt that says "SuperDad." He loves superheroes so I thought it would be appropriate.

So I'm pretty much doing what you are doing. I don't know what kind of work he does or his stress levels associated with that career. Maybe you guys could get a couples massage together, you could pick a day for him thats all about doing the things he likes to do, give him a massage yourself.

  • My birthday is around Valentine's Day, so it's always a combined celebration for me.  To my surprise, DH told me he made reservations to a nice restaurant and arranged for a babysitter for DS!  He's not a mushy romantic type, and rarely plans anything (I'm always the planner)... so this is a big deal, haha.  I'm looking forward to some alone time with DH and to dressing up and wearing makeup and getting all gussied up, yay!  :)
  • We usually just exchange sappy cards & go on a date.

We haven't discussed plans yet at all.

  • DH isn't a big fan of chocolate so I'm always stumped on what to do for him for Valentine's.  I thought about doing the Love Lock at the Dam:  Take a lock, lock it on the fence at the dam and (you're supposed to) throw the key into the lake.  I'll probably keep the key and put it into a shadow box.  : )  Also will wind up trying to make a romantic dinner for him.

  • We will probably just make a nice dinner at home and I'll make a fancy dessert. We don't exchange gifts.

  • Not sure yet.  It's nice that it's on a Friday this year.  We will not have a sitter, so we won't be doing much.  I plan on making something nice for dinner (not sure what yet), and hope to make DH some sort of Valentine... but I am really at a loss as to what.

  • Eh...we don't do anything on valentines. It's just another day for us but this valentines we have our A/S scan so I guess that can be our date lol.
  • Not much on actual Valentine's Day. We find out what we're having on the 18th and my mom will come down to watch DS for the u/s so since she's here, DH and I will go out for a nice dinner and open the little envelope that says "boy" or "girl." :)

  • Well, it is called "steak and BJ day" for a reason.  I seriously have no idea.  I might make meatloaf since the man loves that stuff and I typically don't.
  • We don't really have anything planned. My birthday is a few days after Valentine's Day and we're planning a day out (movies, dinner probably) one day over that weekend.

  • Nope. Hate the holiday. I'm miserable, i can't have chocolate and i have to work, plus it's a Friday so i won't get home till late. IF i'm feeling better DH might get lucky, but i'm not holding my breath.

I'm just a ball of merry fucking sunshine today. Oy.

  • I very much dislike Valentine's Day but DH insists on celebrating. Usually, we head to a chocolate cafe and write each other notes. No plans discussed this year so we'll see.
  • I have a huge file audit at work that day so we've already decided that we aren't going to do anything special that day.  We are going to go to a resort not too far from here a few weeks after for a mini-vacation.

  • We're pretty poor young kids, so we'll probably just eat chicken wings and watch a movie together.

I always joke about getting him a silky thong... I think I'm going to have to do that this year.

  • We usually make a fancy dinner together instead of going out since every restaurant around here has a special "Valentine's Day menu" that's more expensive for similar food that you get any other day there. Last year we made some grass-fed beef tenderloin with cocoa rosemary wine sauce, fingerling potatoes, roasted asparagus with some Malbec and homemade chocolate pudding pie for dessert- so we'll do something like that again this year. We don't usually do gifts and DH knows he will be in trouble if he buys me seriously overpriced flowers just because it's the 14th!

  • We never go out for VD.  I think I baked a cake the first year.  Hoping our VD will include an ultrasound this year, and maybe some lunch.  *Fingers crossed*

  • I'm not big on Valentine's Day, but the husband likes to do something low-key to celebrate.  We usually do dinner out or he cooks me a nice dinner, but since food disgusts me, I'm thinking that is out this year.  We'll probably just watch a movie in and spend some time just the two of us.  We usually just get each other small, silly, inexpensive gifts.

    This sounds heavenly.

My DH usually cooks for me on Valentines Day. He can cook 3 things. I usually choose his homemade pizza. We make each other Valentine's cards (nothing fancy, just notes from the heart) & usually do a little chocolate or something we enjoy. He loves chips & dip so I'll probably get him that. :) Valentine's Day should be whatever makes you happy. I know one thing, you just about couldn't pay me to go out to a restaurant on that day. Last time we tried it was a 2 hour wait. We ended up getting to go, ate at home & watched The Office. It was great!

  • @alyssa719 Steak and BJ day is in March to reciprocate for Vday :)

I decided to get a bunch of his favorite candy bars and make him a candy bouquet.  He's a chocojunkie so it'll be even more appreciated than the flowers I sent him at work last year :)

I was about to write the same thing.

We don't do much for Valentine's Day. Probably a nice dinner at home with brownies or cupcakes for dessert.

    I want brownies now.

  • Headed to Charleston this weekend (a little early) and then probably juts doing a home cooked meal on actual valentines day.

  • I'm so jealous of all the plans!! We have our AS that day so that's about as romantic as it will get. We'll probably order dinner, and watch a movie. We might even splurge and buy popcorn FROM THE THEATER!! LoL! I love doing that. I feel like I'm stealing.

  • We have never really celebrated Valentine's day, definitely no presents though we will give DS a little something. We consider it pretty much the worst night to go out to dinner so definitely not that. We might have a nicer dinner that night, who knows.

  • SO generally gets me flowers (he has a weird guilty conscience that my ex-h never did, so he insists on doing it) although he's sort of set since I'm happiest getting gerbera daisies from Trader Joes!  Given that this is our last holiday as just a couple, I'm guessing I might end up with a new Pandora charm to top it off.  I'm still not sure what I want to get him.  We generally don't do dinner out on the day itself, largely due to his unpredictable shiftwork schedule, and if we go out, it's always on a different day.  That said, I haven't been able to stomach beef OR seafood with this pregnancy, so my most romantic dinner pick this year just might be Qdoba!

  • DS will be at my parents' for his biweekly sleepover so we are doing dinner and "adult time"! Hehe! We aren't doing gifts this year...we have our gender reveal u/s the day before so that's our gift!!!

We usually don't do anything on Valentine's Day, but will go to dinner at some point that week. I wish I could do something more special this year as this is also our last Valentine's Day with just the two of us. We are going to be on a house hunting trip to a new area,so I wouldn't even know where to make reservations for a night out.

Check four square for restaurant recommendations and reviews in your new area. I usually find new and fun places in new cities on there.
  • DH and I eat at our favorite restaurant once a year for Valentine's. We are able to easily get reservations and it's full but not over crowded. It's affectionately known as our secret Valentine's Day spot. He already surprised me by making reservations again this year! Right after he is the photographer for my nephews proposal to his girlfriend. Looking forward to our date night since I'd kinda out that low on the priority list this year.

Usually we do cards and I cook steaks for dinner ;) but DH is taking me out for sushi this year! We'll do lunch instead of dinner to beat the crowd on a Friday night. I'm also thinking about buying a set of cabinets I saw recently at a surplus place ( if they are still there) as new liquor cabinets since the racks we have right now are open and that'll be a problem by next year!

  • My co-worker made her hubs a little craft that was floating around on Pinterest a while back: a deck of cards bound together with a special memory or fact on each, titled "52 Reasons I Love You." It's definitely cheesy, but she showed it to me when it was done, and it was seriously the cutest, sweetest thing ever.

We'll be in Mexico, so I think that will be celebration enough, but I still feel like I should give SO a little something. Not sure if I should smuggle a small gift on the plane, or maybe get him something while we're on the trip to remember it?
I've done the 52 reasons one year and the DH kept them to this day! As for this year. I have no idea. He works long days and between my classes and internship schedule my days are even longer. Likely will just buy supplies to make chocolate covered strawberries and cook dinner together at home.
  • I'll be having dinner with my daughter, MIL and mom and dad. Romantic, I know, but dh is working. Oh, well. We're thinking maybe we can get away on Saturday night.
    Pass the sheet cake.

  • Pretty sure my DH would just be happy if he gets sex. I'll be happy with a good dinner (takeout or homemade) and some chocolate. Our son was born on the 13th so his celebrations trump ours.

We have out A/S that day too! We were originally going to be team green, but now are super excited to find out the sex! I am glad our appointment is on valentines day, it will make the holiday extra special for us.
