Stay at Home Moms

Would this be dumb?

So I have to be part of a conference call for my work at home position tomorrow at 9 am. It was supposed to be today but got pushed to tomorrow. I had planned on taking LO to Disneyland for our first Mommy-Son Disney date tomorrow. The park opens at 10 and my plan was to be there when it opened and stick around until about 1:00, hoping to be home close to nap time. To get there when it opens, I would need to leave around 9:00. Obviously, I have the conference call. I'm guessing the call would last about 30 minutes or so? But I'm not sure. Would it be stupid to leave immediately after the conference call, putting me at the park, hopefully just a little after it opens. Nap time is at 2:00. Would it be stupid to then just leave at 1:00 still? Or would it be better to hang out a little bit longer and try to put him down for a short nap whenever we get home? Or just skip the nap? Or just see how it goes. Or not go at all. I'm definitely overthinking it. Just want to see what others would do or if it's worth it to go at all.

  • Yeah, we have passes. We're going next Tuesday for my birthday but I really want to go just DS and I. I'll probably go for it.

I can't see how old your LO is but could you do the call on Bluetooth en route and just leave a little before 9 so you're on the road and ready for the call? I used to travel a ton for work and did many a conference call on the go via Bluetooth, I actually preferred that since then I had less to do when I got to my hotel or back home or to the office...
He's 2. I would, but this is the first project I've done with this position so I'd rather be home and able to focus without any distractions. We only live about 40 minutes or so from the parks, so it's not too big of a deal. I'll just be totally ready to go as soon as I hang up from the call.

  • Go for it! Skip the nap if he isn't trying to go down for it and just enjoy the day with your little one!
  • Go for it.  Stay as long as he wants.  If he naps a tad late, or even just in the car, or not at all then whatever.  I'm mostly strict about our naptime, but for a fun mommy-son date, I think you can toss the schedule.
    Have fun!!!

  • Well, crap. Not only is the call happening at 9, but then my boss wants to chat and get the project finished right away. I have no way of knowing how long it will take as it's my first one and I don't really know what to expect. So it looks like we won't be going after all. Luckily, we are all going next Tuesday for my birthday so I don't have to wait too long for our next trip. Still disappointed though.

If it is a special day naps means nothing to me.
This is pretty much my philosophy too. Even if it's an hour or so later than planned I'd still go. You have season passes so if he melts down no big deal but I doubt he will. If he's anything like my kid he'll enjoy the extra hour at the park and crash on the way home. I really wouldn't cancel the whole day to try to fit in a nap.

  • It's not so much the nap as it is the fact that I have no idea how long the project will take. And I want to be home when DH gets home from work anyway. So if the call lasts an hour, that puts me at 10 AM. Then I need to have the project completed by 11 AM, which I just verified. So I'd be leaving for the park around 11, putting me there right at lunch. I want to be home when DH gets home from work which is around 5:30. To do that I would need to leave the park by 3:30 because traffic at that time is horrible. I don't know if it's worth it. There will be other opportunities. And the trip next week is for my birthday. Because I'm a child at heart...and in denial about turning 30.

  • I can't go any other day this week. We have a play date on Thursday morning and Gymboree class on Friday. It's ok. There will be other days!
