It's probably to early to start this discussion, but is anyone thinking nursery themes yet? I am really wanting to do moose or penguins if it is a boy. No clue if it is a girl. Anyone have some cute ideas to share? Bonus points for pictures.
We didn't really do a theme in DS2's room & probably won't in this baby's room either. I'm getting a vintage style feel if this baby is a girl though. I'm about to be invading Pinterest like it's nobody's business. Lol
Definitely pink and aqua birds if it's a girl. If it's a boy, I am leaning toward alligators with preppy navy/kelly green color scheme this time. ODS's room was sports-themed with dark red, dark orange, olive green, and dark red for the colors. YDS's room nursery is orange/baby blue/brown with a car theme.
Sky and earth theme. Birds, dragonflies, butterflies, lady bugs and for night time, stars and fireflies. The crib and furniture will be wood colors for the earth and we'll paint a tree in the room as well. Also, splashes of yellow to brighten things up.
We did a safari theme with DS because it's neutral so this babe will be in the safari themed nursery. It's yellow with wooden jungle animals on the wall. Don't have pics right now, but if pregnancy brain doesn't kick in I will post a few in a bit.
I don't know whether ours counts as a "theme"... we're doing a light grey room with two (oversized) stripes of argyle on one wall (one on either side of windows).. We were initially doing darker green and darker grey for the argyle, but I think now we've determined it will be glitter pink and purple.
The rest will be (maybe) similar to @Skeemer with vintage style (big drapey curtains, a canopy thing over the bed, a large wardrobe for clothes, and we're looking for an antique dresser/makeup table to use as a changing table). We have hardwood floors so debating rug styles.
This is the current status of the room (after DH took down the ceiling fan and I moved out most of the furniture, took down the crown moldings and painted the ceiling white - it was a gross sponge paint thing).
We're doing whales. My husband and I sing baby beluga to each other jokingly so we thought it would be cute. Most of the stuff I've seen is boyish and we're having a girl, but I plan on just doing gray walls with pink accents, so it should be ok. My sister is artsy so she's going to paint a mural for us. Can't wait!

I have a bunch of old black and white photos from my family farm that I'm going to frame and put on the walls and label who's in them in relation to the baby (ie, my Aunt would be LO's Great Aunt so- and -so). I also found an awesome bird mobile made from paper cut outs on etsy I'm planning on using in there. No 'theme' per se, just a little vintage, a little bird action, and LOTS of color (we have a log cabin so it's wood on top of wood on top of wood...everywhere)
My husband could care less. I think he cares a little more if it's a boy than if the baby is a girl. I'm all about pinterest. I have our boy theme figured out. If the baby is a boy, we are going to do a navy/red/grey color scheme with "The Avengers" theme. If it's a girl, I like the colors pink, peach, mint, seafoam color scheme with probably a vintage feel but not completely sure about the girl nursery yet.
Just to clarify, I guess I didn't mean "theme" per se, but more of decor. DS had a transportation theme and DD had a fairy garden theme. Now they are in a room without a real theme, but it is very eclectic with lots of colors, a big airplane mural, a moon in my room & solar system in my room, and lots of fun Eric Carle & Lorax pictures. Sounds crazy, but it's really cute and fun.
DD's room is Yellow on the top half with a white chair rail and then green and white cross hatches on the bottom. It looks like a sunny day with a white fence and grass growing between the rails. She has Disney Faries wall clings all over the room. If this is a girl, she will just join her sister. If it is a boy we will add some Comic Book Hero's like Superman to the walls.
13 yr old boy with ASD, ADHD and PICA, 11 yr old boy, 3 yr old Girl, & baby Girl.
We will probably do a color scheme more than a theme. I do have some bedding I like at Land of Nod. Anatomy scan is 2/12, so we will think more about the nursery then.
DS didn't really have a "theme" and neither will this baby. I like doing the rooms in a way that they can grow with them, as opposed to having to redecorate when it becomes too babyish. That said a girl will have a light blue room with teal and pink accents with mermaids and unicorns for decor. A boy will have a light blue room with orange and navy blue accents and with foxes and owls for decor.
We love Disney and the baby monsters inc stuff at BRU is right up our alley. And its all white with bright colored characters so it will be easy to just bring in other brights as well.
We are doing a Peter Pan/Neverland theme. I figure if we have a boy we will play up the lost boys and pirates aspects, and mermaid/pixie for a girl.
On one wall we are having the silhouette of London night skyline with the shadows of the children flying and then neverland themes on the rest. We have some framed art work including the Thomas Kinkade Peter Pan print and a classic map of neverland. Pinterest has had some adorable ideas I may steal.
Not doing a theme per-say. It's a girl, so I plan to paint the room a grayish purple and accent with touches of yellow. Furniture is white. I fell in love with the picture below, so I'm finishing up framing it and two other basic color prints.
We aren't into themey/matchy rooms more just gather things we like and paint the walls a complimentary color. We are about 80% sure DS will be moving out of his room and this baby moving it, so decor will not really change in the nursery. DS will get a new room, probably blue, and since he loves all things that go I am sure there will be some cars, trucks, trains, planes, and/or bots in there. Not too much since this will be his forever room and i don't intend to redo it every couple years!
I found this on pinterest and fell in love... My son's room is woodland creatures. If the baby is a boy I have no clue
We did that with DS except gender neutral fabrics because we were team green. It's actually pretty cute and easy, and doesn't look too girly with the right stuff. We'll likely move them to the new nursery and change the fabric to match.
So, I found a cute A&A cloud sheet online yesterday. I'm thinking if it's a boy we'll do that and hang some vintage looking airplanes. I also found a template to make a hanging hot air balloon so I might do that too. If it's a girl, we'll do some sort of vintage look. I found a crib to somewhat match an antique dresser I already had which we will use as a changing table as well.

The vintage plane theme sounds cute!

The room we're using for the nursery was a nursery for the previous owners, so it's got cute beadboard on the bottom half of the wall and the top was painted yellow, but we're changing that, as DH tells me that yellow is the childhood bedroom color of serial killers. I think we're going to go for a nice gray on top, and then free-hand paint a giant tree onto the wall over the crib. We're going to attach real leaves and maybe some flowers to the wall to give it a 3D effect.
I think for the crib set, *if* we splurge on one, we'll go with this: And then I plan to sew a stuffed felt cloud mobile for the crib, and maybe some planes and clouds to hang from the ceiling as well.
We are painting the room a light brown whether its a boy or a girl. I am not a "themey" person but if its a boy I keep falling in love with pictures of jungle themes with a big tree and monkeys hanging off, so we'll probably do that. If its a girl, I think we'll just do purple accents, no real theme.
If we have a girl I'm using the pic that @rattlecanqueen posted as my room inspiration. The main difference is the walls will be gray. If we have a boy we'll still use gray walls but I'm not sure of the decor.
We are doing yellow and gray. If the baby is a girl we will do pops of hot pink and probably won't have a theme per se. If it's a boy we will add pops of navy blue and the theme will be vintage airplanes (DH and my dad are both pilots).
DD's nursery was ladybugs and you can see my post about it it here if you are interested.
No theme in my DDs room/nursery, just a colour pallette. Her walls are a light aloe green with white trim in the room, the wall behind her bed has 42* "bubbles" that I painted in 2 shades of greyed purple and the inside of her closet is painted the deeper of the 2 purples from the bubble wall.
*I expressly did 42 bubbles on her wall beacuse DH and I are big nerds/geeks and both love HGttG.
Originally, we were doing a gender-neutral jungle animals theme, but DH found Toy Story fabric when I was looking for curtains, so now it will be Toy Story for a boy (DH's favorite movie) complete with the blue walls with clouds, just like Andy's room in the movie. If its a girl, the theme is going to be Disney princess-ish (I have a huge Beauty and the Beast collection) done in purple with yellow accents, with a lot of daisies.
DD had a Grateful Dead themed nursery in light green, pink and white with Serena and Lily bedding. It looks the same as a big girl room with a new bed and same bedding.
DD#2 gets same bedding and furniture but a Bob Marley theme.
I have an artist create the artwork so it's tastefully done. You would have to be a Deadhead to appreciate it, to everyone else it's just cute bears and turtles.
We did our nursery with a teddy bear theme with shades of tan, brown, and cream. DS is still using it, but will be getting a new room (I'm thinking woodsy theme). The new baby will move into the nursery.
I have some really pretty prints I got in Paris years ago and never framed. I think I might try to frame them and build the room around that. Not sure on colors for her yet though. DD's room is pink and green so something different. Thinking maybe purples and yellows?

Well, DH has dubbed ours 'The Nerdsury", so that should give you an idea of our rough theme...
Nothing too super matchy or crazy, but there will be lots of our geek stuff that we love. A space mural on one wall being the biggest thing. Then I really want to make a mobile of all the different sci-fi ships (Millenium Falcon, Serenity, Enterprise, The TARDIS, etc). I will be hanging a transcription of Wil Wheaton's speech about why being a geek is cool somewhere, and we are getting a vinyl sticker to go on the space mural of one of my favorite Dr. Who quotes: "So, all of time and space, everything that ever happened or ever will - where do you want to start?"
Other than that we'll have a white duvet on the bed, white crib, grey walls and a dark grey rocker, with accents of cedar and medium-toned wood.
I'm sure this all sounds insane. I promise pictures when it starts to come together. Trust me, it'll be classy ;-)
We're doing a gender neutral nursery regardless of the sex, so that we can reuse it for future children. We've decided on elephants, but the bedding is more funky then cutesy. Elephants have a significance for us since we spent part of our honeymoon at an Elephant Conservation Center in Thailand. We will be putting some photos/art and mementos from the trip in the room as well.
We're going with a space theme. Colors will be blue, grey, and orange. Already have solar system mobile and Starfleet Academy print (yes we're big geeks).
Had LO been a girl I was thinking of vintage botanical prints with butterflies.
