3rd Trimester

Who to call...

Good morning all!
I have a quick question I'm needing a little input on. I've been congested for months, it became pretty normal for me and seemed to be pregnancy related. Yesterday, I woke up with a toothache! Ive had sinus toothaches before, and I'm 99 percent sure that's what this is. If I put a hot compress on my face, it goes away. Eating makes it feel better, so does applying pressure to the teeth. Hot or cold foods don't cause me pain. It seems purely sinus related. So.. Do I call my regular doc or my ob?
I haven't had to see my regular doctor for awhile, which isn't bad because I really don't like him, he's kind of an ass.
So next question... What's the general consensus on switching my internal medicine doctor at 36 weeks? I'm thinking it shouldn't be an issue since this is completely separate from my ob.
Opinions?
Thanks!

  • I would call your ob, but you could also call your dentist.

I know my insurance plan covers three teeth cleanings during pregnancy, so it might be worth your while to get that done.

  • My PCP won't touch me during pregnancy. My Ob becomes my PCP until 6 weeks PP. I would call your OB, they will direct you who to call.

Ohhh.. Very good to know! Thanks!

I was considering just going to the dentist anyway to completely rule out problems with my teeth. I'm a little nervous because my gums bleed ridiculously when I do anything with my teeth, regardless of frequency. But I guess they will know this and can tell me their preference. Thanks!

  • I would check with your OB.

I have had similar symptoms with the sinuses but began taking zyrtec, as it seemed to be allergy related.

    That helped improve sinus issues.

  • I'd give it a few days. If you're congested that could be the cause. I had that last week when i had a cold. I almost always get what feels like a tooth ache before i notice that i'm congested and the "tooth ache" lasts until the cold goes away. This time around, it felt so bad, I thought it had to be a cavity but thought i'd wait it out a couple of days and sure enough it went away completely. Good luck!

I'm just trying to make sense of things :-)
  • Thank you all! I just called the nurse to see if there's anything I should do because nothing on the approved meds list works for me. She said try a saline rinse. So I will! The toothache is mostly gone now but congestion has gotten worse and my face is sore... So I'm headed to walgreens to try the saline :-)
