Where are you keeping your hospital bag?

I haven't even begun packing it but DH just asked if I was planning on keeping it in my car... This never dawned on me. I had it in my mind that it'd be mostly packed and stashed in my closet with a list on top of the last minute grabs (like my cell charger and toothbrush). My work is 15 min from home and the hospital is also 15 min from home. I could even have my neighbor bring me my bag if I call her.

I plan on working up until I go into labor so I guess it could happen anywhere....

Are you keeping your bag in your car? Do people do this?

  • I kept mine in my closet for last minute stuff like my toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, etc.

By the front door with a note of last minute items pinned to it. If I have to go to the hospital and am not going from home it can be found by who ever I send to get it. When I was induced with my 32weeker it was in my closet and mil had to go through all of my stuff and I didn't like that.

I haven't even dug out a bag to pack yet...
  • Mine, which I finally started packing today, is in the nursery with the baby bag. I stay at home though so even if my water broke while we were out I'd go home first. I hace quite a few last minute items so its not a very complete bag.

  • Mine's almost packed.. Once it is I guess I'll put it in my car? I just hate keeping things in there bc my car gets so hot in the ga sun :/
  • I just kept mine in my room with my list on top and I'll do the same this time whenever I get around to packing it. I'm scheduled, but don't think I would do it differently if I wasn't because of all the last minute stuff.

  • In my bedroom. I'm going to have to pack last minute things, so keeping it anywhere else doesn't make sense for me. But I have a list taped to the front, so if I'm at work or something my mom or DH can easily pack the rest and bring it.

  • Hospital bags are in the guest room.  As my due date gets closer, we will keep them in my husband's car.
  • Right now it's in our bedroom, but keeping it in the car is a good idea! I would do that except for the weather- it's not just cold here, but often enough gets far below freezing so I don't want to think about or worry about if there are any liquids or anything that shouldn't get so cold.

  • I've kept them in my room.  For DD we had plenty of warning when I went into labor, DS was a homebirth but I had a bag just in case we needed to transfer and this time will be the same.  I guess if you're out and don't have your bag someone can always go and grab it...you don't really need anything while you're in labor just for the stay after.

  • I'm going to put it in DH's car. We take his car everywhere. If I'm at work or something and get a ride there, he will come. So no matter what, his car will be there.

  • Mine is in LO's room, with her diaper bag for now. I might move it out near the door though and put my last minute list on it.

  • In the closet. It's not urgent that I have it with me when I deliver, so I'm not too worried if I have to send someone to get it.

  • It's in my closet, it's only half packed right now. I won't keep it in my car because it is way too cold outside!

  • I'll keep it in my car and will have most toiletries packed ( extra toothbrush, etc). I'll leave a list at home of things u need (like my hair dryer) since DH will be splitting his time between DD at home and me and baby at the hospital. He or my mom can grab those few small things and bring them since I won't need them right away anyway.

  • If I ever get around to packing mine.....lol I'm sure I'll just keep it in her room. We live 5 mins from the hospital and I'm sure someone will be able to grab it should I need to send them for it. I do have her bag almost completely packed though......just haven't started mine.

OMG you're all so organized, this reminds me of something else I need to do! I'll keep it in the closet and I like PP's idea of pinning a note to it for last minute items, since I can't pack my hairbrush and things I'm currently still using.
  • This is still on my to-do list but I love the idea of having it in DHs car. I live an hour from the hospital and work halfway between. Someone would surely come get it but I think the car makes sense for us. And thanks for the last minute list idea!

  • I was planning on packing mine one day this week and putting it in the nursery. Since the twins had other plans, the essentials got packed right before we left to head to l&d. The other stuff, dh went to pick up when he checked on our fur babies after I got settled in l&d with my mom

I need to pack mine this weekend or next. I'll then keep it in the baby's room with the last minute list (chargers, etc.). Need to get a list and empty bag sorted for DH as well. There's no hope that he'll pack before I go into labor, but having a list ready for him will keep things organized when it all goes down (or when he comes home to get his things after).

    Edited for spelling.

I'm keeping mine in the utility room behind the furnace with all the other dusty, unused luggage.  If there were anything in it I'd probably keep it elsewhere...  Yeah I guess I'd best get on that.
  • Mine is just in my bedroom, half packed. I'll need to add last minute stuff to it once I go into labor. Also we live about 15 minutes from the hospital so I figure DH can just go home and grab anything I forget.

  • Mine is in our bedroom next to the pack n' play.  I live 15 minutes from work and less than 10 minutes from the hospital, so I don't see why I would keep it in the car.
    image
  • My personal goal is to have it packed by Friday. I hope that's not a jinx...
  • Mine is just in my room, half packed. I don't have enough clothes that fit my poor body right now to pack everything since it would leave me with nothing to wear if I put it all in the bag! So I have the stuff I don't use much put in there and at some point I will make a list of the remaining items and where they are found in case I have to go straight to the hospital and can't make it home. That way it will be easy for my mom or MIL or whoever to find what I'm looking for and bring it to me. My work isn't super close to home (an hour at peak times, 30 min at non-peak times) and the hospital is about 20 minutes away. So in the majority of cases, I figure I will have enough time to get back to my house and grab my remaining items then head out.
  • Planning on packing mine this week and keeping it at the foot of our bed.

  • Yeah, I need to join the slacker group. I haven't even thought about this. I guess I need to go buy some appropriate pajamas.
  • I have mine sort of packed.  It's sitting in baby's room right now.  I guess I should finish packing it soon. :)

  • What hospital bag?!?!
  • Seriously though...
Sometime in the next 4 weeks I will put stuff together.
Unless I am heading out of town, then I'll pack stuff earlier.

It will be in the entryway unless something comes up, then it will be in my or DH's car.
  • It's still in my mind at this point. I need to get on it.

I'm having the same issue! I don't want to pack all my favorite comfy items bc then I would have nothing left to wear. I'm setting up a rotation system. Once I'm done wearing something, I take the clean duplicate item from the bag and start wearing it, wash the previously worn item and then pack it in my bag.

  • I'm going to my parents house for a few days so I need it at the end of feb. So I'll pack it after that trip. I'll just keep it in my room. I highly doubt I'll go into labor, but if I do I'll have it ready the first week of March or so?

  • Mine will be in the baby nursery with the baby bag. I'm now home all the time so it would be easy to just grab it, also the baby room is right before our room so if my water breaks at night we can just grab the bags before heading out the door.
