I've been MIA. Still no sleep?

Any other April Mommys still struggling. We are still up every 3 to 3.5 hrs a night. We had gotten to 5 hour stretches and regressed.

Our little one isn't gaining weight. She lost a lb around the 5 month mark and hasn't gained an oz since. Because of this her pediatrician wants me feeding her at night again. I'm fine with a night feeding or two but we are going on a year of ME being sleep deprived and it's so depressing to me. Plus we are ready to try for #2 but no way in hell can I be pregnant and only get 3-4 hrs of sleep a night.

  • Yikes... sorry to hear about lo's weight struggles, that must be double stressful! But just so you don't think you're the only one still up a zillion times per night, Warner still wakes to eat 3-4 times every night. If he wakes up twice, it is basically a miracle.

  • We're up usually two times a night too. My DD is petite and takes a full bottle every time so I just can't bring myself to cut out those feedings yet. We'll get sleep one day...at least that is what I keep telling myself.

  • We're in the same boat in terms of sleep. B is going through some teething or a growth spurt or something and wants to nurse almost constantly throughout the night - whereas we used to get at least a few good 2-3 hour stretches between nursing.

She's still in our bed, so I'm able to fall back asleep pretty quickly once she latches on, but it's not great sleep. It's not until my husband takes her for the first few hours in the morning that I realize how badly I slept during the night - from 6-8ish in the morning I go into such a deep, dream filled sleep compared to not really dreaming at all during the night.

I'm tired, but I think without those extra few hours, I would be non-functional. Maybe you could ask your SO to take her in the morning? Hang in there.

  • Connor is getting 4 teeth at once right now, so his teeth grinding is waking him up multiple times. I was hopeful too because he slept through the night two days in a row a week ago!

    Welcome back too!

  • Can DH take one feeding so u can get a longer stretch of sleep?
  • Hugs... We never sleep either 3 times a night is considered a miracle here. We normally get one 3-4 hour stretch then a 2 hour followed up up every house until morning :(

  • Oh friend I am so sorry to hear this :( I hope your LO starts gaining weight soon. We have also been having issues at night still as well. We started sleep training this weekend though. So far it's been making quite the difference. Huge hugs coming your way! I hope you get a break soon!

  • We had bloodwork and some other testing done last week but I'm still not overly concerned with the wight issue. She seems to be thriving everywhere else but seeing "failure to thrive" as her diagnosis kinda sucked. If the testing shows no issues then we will just keep plucking along without worry.

DH is amazing at helping. He is a physician though and Is up and out of the house by 630am. If she wakes up while he is getting ready he feeds her and once a week he takes a full night, but I have a hard time sleeping though her crying while he makes a bottle. :-/. He's always willing to take more nights or a feeding here or there when I get really bad.

I just keep thinking by now she should be sleeping. Not being on the forum and hearing others struggling with the same issues got me thinking we were "broken" I need to stay active on here!

  • Welcome back! Your little lady is super active, right? Hopefully she's just burning through her calories and it's nothing serious.

And I haven't had a full night sleep at home since she was born. She's up 2-3 times usually. I had a work trip in December and will have another one this week. I should get up to pump, but I'm going to relish my sleep! Can you recruit family or something to take one night away?

  • How is she doing with solids? G had a hard time in the beginning but now is a full on piggy and it has definitely helped with her weight gain (went from 8% - 20%). Have you found something she likes in terms of food?

  • She is pretty active and was one of the early rollers and crawlers. As far as solids she is a PIGLET! And likes everything. We have yet to find a food she doesn't like. We did purées for about a week and then just did BLW cause she wanted everything we ate. She gets 4oz of oatmeal with BM or formula for breakfast and fruit, usually about 1/2 a banana. Lunch she gets bites of whatever I am eating and dinner she gets an oz or so of meat or tofu, some carbs like rice or pasta, a veggie, a fruit and some cheese. She still has no teeth so we eat lots of soft foods. ;). Then she gets another 4oz of oatmeal with formula before bed. She also gets two 4oz Bottles of formula on top of me nursing her 8-10 times in a 24hr period. We started the bottles around 6m for weight reasons.

I had no intentions of her being on 3 full meals a day until 1 year.
