We live in a rickety shack in the middle of nowhere currently and dd has been in her crib in our room. Within the next month, we are moving into a house with my uncle and our rooms are on the second floor. Which monitors to you use to hear/see LO? I'm not opposed to the old fashioned sound only type. I'll basically just use it at night when she's in her crib and we will be downstairs.

Re: Recommend your baby monitor.... Please!
We have the Summer, but I think both have the following features:
Pan/Zoom - to move the camera (more useful with a mobile toddler or if you have a unique camera position)
Night Vision - obvious, since that is usually when used besides naps
Sound indicator - if you want/need to turn the volume down, you can still "see" the sound via lights, also helpful if you're using white noise
Talk Back - you can talk through the receiver into the camera/room; also helpful with a toddler who follows directions but can also be used to speak to a spouse in the room or to Shh a baby if you believe in HBOTB.
Add Cameras - helpful when you have multiple children, if they nap & sleep in different places, or if you have blind spots in the room.
We have an older version. Newer versions are Wifi-compatible and you would want to make sure they have secure connections if you use that feature.
I'm a firm believer in the video monitor because babies/kids can make all kinds of noises in their sleep and it's great to be able to see whether they are truly awake.
