one worried momma

edited February 2014 in December 2013 Moms
So we had DDs 2 mosnth visit today. Got her shots, my poor baby she is a little cranky:( it was good at first...She gained a pound and a half..then the Dr came in and was listening to her chest a lot closer than she did before and told me it sounds like DD might have a heart murmur. So we have to go in for an echo next week. It's more than likely everything is okay but as a FTM who worries about everything I can't help but worry and was crying earlier...I hope my baby is okay.

Pointless post but any one else in the same situation?

Re: one worried momma

  • Thank you and I will. I'm hoping I'm just over reacting....which I probably am but it's just the thought of something being wrong. I would fall apart if anything ever happened to her

  • We had the same thing happen at one month visit, and they sent us for echo right away and to see cardiologist. It turned out fine, a normal variant in the pulmonic artery (common in babies) and should resolve in a year. He said that Murmurs are very common in babies. Hope this helps!
  • I have a heart murmur, it's never really been an issue. In fact no dr has mentioned it in years and they did say it may sort itself out over time.

Yep, she did not hear it two weeks ago, found out SO mom has a heart murmor and rehmatic fever is strong in the male side of the family. I look at it this way, I'm worried but I'm not try to relax as hard as it is but LO picks up on your stress. When babies are in the uterus they have a hole in their heart where mamas blood passes through. When baby is born the lungs expand and the hole is closed up, sometimes it takes a little longer for that hole to close, it is not harmful just scary. There are 5 different grades of heart murmors one being it makes little noise when listened through a stephscope and 5 where it is loud and not mistakable. Hugs and hopefully it is something that will go away within time...

  • Thank you ladies thank you @2010weddinggal. I hope everything is OK for your LO also. Yup I found out DH had one and my mom had one :( she hasn't shown any symptoms of a severe heart murmur

  • My preemie has a heart murmur. An echo is no big deal. More than likely, if it is a heart murmur, it will clear up on his own. Ozzy's is almost closed now. He doesn't have to go back for a follow up until he's a year. And at 33 years old, I still have heart murmur.
