Hi, I have been trying to find CDs for a while now but all walmart, k-mart and target carry are the prefolds and flats. I can't find any diaper covers anywhere! Can diaper covers be used with any cd? because doing some research all I have been able to figure out is that diaper covers come with inserts? Totally confused. Is the internet the only place to find cd?
I think some targets carry CB in stock but I'm not totally sure. Skip the prefolds and flats from walmart or kmart because it's likely they're gerber and intended more for burp cloths. You may find a CD store near you but if you're like me you might just have to buy everything online. I live in a rural area where CD is highly uncommon and there are no stores. It's a bummer when you can't check out the diapers in person before purchasing but getting fluff mail is pretty fun
Pretty much. Unless there is a specialty baby store near you that carries CDs. Or a Buy Buy Baby.
Also, the prefolds and flats that are carried by the big box stores you mention are not meant to be used as diapers. They are thin and lack the absorbency that proper flats and prefolds have.
And no, there are diaper covers that go over prefolds, flats or fitted diapers. Pocket diapers have a pocket in which to stuff inserts (which can be prefolds or flats if you want) and most come with their own inserts.
For a more thorough explanation with visuals, head over to YouTube and search for ObbsandLala's CD vlog or the Cloth Diapering 101 series. Also, the following CD retailers have really helpful websites: www.greenmountaindiapers.com (just click on everything - Karen, the owner, has tons of pictures and personal opinions posted on everything she stocks) www.nickisdiapers.com (hit the red "overwhelmed" button)
So stay away from Gerber? My area doesn't have a store like that unless I try the baby consignment shops around here but there are not that many. What internet sites do ya'll use? I am looking for somewhere I can get the most product for my money.
Second recommendation for www.greenmountaindiapers.com I've even spoken to Karen on the phone, she's really knowledgeable and everything we've bought from there has been great.
@BrandyD06 - yes, stay away from Gerber. Their stuff is not meant for actual diapering.
I like the following sites: www.greenmountaindiapers.com www.nickisdiapers.com www.cottonbabies.com
Or if you are on a budget, look into purchasing used diapers. People list things on this board every now and then or check ebay, Spot's Corner or Diaper Trader.
And don't stress about not having a CD store nearby. I live in a city of 800,000 and there isn't one here, either. They are pretty hard to come by!

I've purchased a lot of my stash used on ebay and just got some more from a friend on my BMB. The sites listed are great ones! I've ordered from GMD and nickis. I'm itching to place an order on cotton babies but just haven't pulled the trigger
I live in hippie world. So, we have a lot of natural parenting stores near us that carry CD, as well as many online retailers that are local. I still barely buy anything in store. I get most of my stuff from Kellyscloset.com as they run freebies a lot and have a decent points system.
My first diapers and covers came from my Amazon registry. Now I'm attempting to purchase as much as I can from a local CD store, mostly to support an awesome small business.

I got my from little spruce organic.com, grovia, and one love diaper. I live close to two cd stores, but I don't have any interest on buying from them. I don't like what they have in stock. But it help me a lot to see them and feel the materials of the diapers,
I ordered mine online (from kellyscloset, nickisdiapers and amazon) but thought I should mention that although you won't find much in the way of cloth diapers at walmart /target/ kmart / babies 'r us / etc in their actual stores, they do have a few cloth diaper options available to order online if you are wanting to put cloth diapers on your registry (friends and relatives should be able to place an order at the store's customer service for online only items if they are not comfortable with internet shopping) or wanting to use gift cards you receive for these stores to get some cloth diapers. Both Target and Babies 'R Us carry Bumgenius (very popular brand for pockets & All-In-One), Flips, Charlie Banana, and G-diapers. Target carries Thristies Duo Wraps (my favorite cover), and Babies 'R Us carries Osocozy prefolds (a decent brand of prefolds, I would not use Gerber prefolds for anything other than a burp cloth).
Im not sure if im late to the game here but I have ordered a lot lately from www.sweetbottoms.com
they always have freebies and free shipping.
Yeah I love them. They always package pretty too and write a little note on the card. I ordered a few BB ON inserts from MMB and when I dumped them out I was so sad that it was just inserts shoved in a bag and nothing more.
I have been looking at the information on Green Mountain Diapers. So far I really like them a lot. Now I just have to decide if I want to buy now or wait until it is closer for babies arrival.
You can use whatever wipes you want. You can use disposable wipes, or you can use cloth wipes, which you could just wash along with your diapers.
With cloth wipes you can use baby wipes or you can use wipes that or marketed for CD, or you can make your own. Some people like to pre-moisten their wipes and keep them in a container, others will keep a spray bottle by the changing area and use that with dry wipes. There are tons of recipes online for homemade wipes solution. Do whatever you like.
I'll just mention that cotton babies does a Monday night twitter chat from 9-10 pm (Eastern time) and they give away 2 or 3 prizes for free each week. Often it's a flip cover. All you need to do to have a shot at winning is have a twitter account and participate in the chat. Usually it's along the lines of "what's your favorite color" or "what diaper is on your baby's bottom".
I've actually won twice. A really nice diaper bag one time, and a flip cover the other time.
Follow @cottonbabies or search for the #clothdiapers tag on Monday nights.

but this means I'd have to enter the world of Twitter and then my electronic and internet footprint would be really huge and they'd be watching me even closer
Ladies, Thank you so much for your advice and support but I won't be needing it after all. I found out last night my baby no longer has a heartbeat and is dead....thank you though and I wish you all continued success.
I'm so sorry for your loss @brandyd06. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you speedy physical healing and all the time and space you need to heal emotionally.

.
Cloth wipes can be as easy as baby wash cloths. Just toss in the wash with your diapers.
