Momma's with babies that had RSV

HELP!!! My poor little man has RSV and so does my two year old daughter. My daughter is handling it well but my little man is so congested and has this horrible cough that breaks my heart everytime I hear it. I have the humidifier on, saline drops and bulb being used, and lots of cuddles. Is there anything else I can be doing? The doctor wasn't much help since she knows I'm in nursing school and know what to look for clinically but as a mommy it breaks my heart seeing him like this. Luckily he hasn't had fever but my daughter has. Last night was a rough night with NO sleep ( I had two kids sleeping on me from 3 am) and now I'm at work, sitting here thinking about my poor babies. Hoping my older two boys don't get sick especially since my oldest has asthma and this virus can wreak havoc on an asthmatic.

Sorry for my rambling. I'm tired and just want my babies to be better. I wish there was a magical pill to make this crap go away. Thank you for letting me vent ladies and all advice is welcome.

Re: Momma's with babies that had RSV

  • My LO didn't have RSV but he did have a cold, with a nasty cough, a few weeks ago. I bought a wedge for his crib so he was a little more upright... It helped him with the congestion at night. I also put him in the bathroom whenever anyone took a shower. I even brought him into the shower with me a few times.
I hope your babies feel soon. Make sure you take care of yourself too!

  • Big hugs....both my preschooler and LO had it too (when she was only 3 weeks old -- DD1 was patient zero). LO is 6 weeks today and was fully recovered within 2 weeks. DD1 still has a lingering cough though. Winter sucks so hard! Keeping LO inclined and not flat while sleeping is key (whether in a RnP, your PnP if it has an incline feature or you can buy a wedge, or even the car seat in a pinch. LO also did really well whenever I brought her into the bathroom, turned the shower full blast on hot and just sat in there with her and the steam for at least 15-20 minutes. We also kept the humidifier running 24/7 as well. Saline drops or BM in the nose before feedings, and then suction.

So sorry you are dealing with this....I know how scary it is to see your tiny baby sick like that. Don't hesitate to call the doctor or bring him in if anything doesn't seem or sound right to you. Unfortunately they can worsen on a dime....prayers your little guy gets through it as easily as possible!

  • It sounds like you know what you're doing and know what to watch for.  My 2 year old had it and passed it to LO (at 3 weeks old-she's 7 weeks now).

Hope your LO feels better soon.

  • Aw, so sorry your going through this! My LO got RSV at 4 weeks, so I can totally relate! We ended up parking him by a humidifier 90% of the time and also diffusing LOTS of Young Living RC and Thieves essential oils. He did exceptionally well and anytime we had to take him in to be monitored his O2 levels were always great and the pedi's were really impressed with how quickly he recovered. Hope your LO's are feeling well soon!
