Well, CD1 is looming on the horizon and I'm dreading it because it makes me feel miserable for awhile. I'm not sure symptom is the correct word but I'm wondering- what is the worst thing you experience when you get your period?

Also, this is my first clicky poll. TITS!!!

Re: What's your worst PMS/period "symptom?"

  • For me, it's horrendous, debilitating cramps on CD1 followed by backache. It's hard to find relief.
  • Loading the player...
  • I get pretty emotional around the time I'm supposed to start my period but I would say the disappointment is the worst.
  • I voted backache. I never used to get much for pms, but the past few cycles I've had terrible backaches. Cramps I can handle, these just suck .

  • My cramps are at the top. I get pretty bad ones, but ibu helps.
Also I get really, really, really emotional and it's super annoying.  I'm a REALLY happy person in general, so that one day of "blah" drives me crazy. I always feel like everyone hates me, and I cry half the day.

  • 6 months ago I would have said cramps/nausea, but that has gone away with acupuncture.

I still have major bathroom issues though.  It really sucks when I'm teaching because I will really need to go and I can't leave a classroom of 25 kids alone.

This, too. I get horrible period poops.
Me too. So I knew I had to include it. It sucks. I have enough bad poops, I feel I should get a break from them on my period... but alas. Life isn't fair.
  • I get really bitchy, mostly because of the disappointment over not being pregnant. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

The off brand anti-diarrheal  gel capsules from Wal-Mart (they're like $5) work pretty well for me. I take two if I know that I'm going to have the poops, or right after I get them. If I get them again (which doesn't usually happen) I'll take one or two more. They are magic!
I ran out two months ago and I'm really kicking myself for forgetting to get more right now.  Those pills have been a life saver and I could really use a couple!

  • Cramps and period shits.  I picked cramps because the shits only last like half a day and cramps last for DAYS.  Why is mother nature such a whore?

At the risk of geting rocks thrown at me, my periods are fairly uneventful. I may cramp on the first day, but it's never taken more than a dose of asprin to handle.

  • Cramps is the absolute worst thing. On CD 1 I am laying in bed writhing in pain and moaning all fucking day no matter what I take to relieve the pain. I'm fortunate though that is almost always only lasts the first day then goes away by CD2. On that day though, omg. And I have a feeling that will be later today and tomorrow...

That is exactly how it is for me. And I think it will be tomorrow which is lame as hell because we have shit to do. Sometimes getting up and moving around eases the pain a bit though. SOMETIMES.

  • Mine is a tie between a migraine and nearly debilitating heartburn. It's a lovely combination of migraine pain and nausea with the feeling like I swallowed fire for a few days.

But I HATE HATE HATE that my tolerance is halved when I have my period and my hangovers are doubled.

My periods used to be this way. They have gotten bad in the last 6 months, though.
----- Ditto. The last 2-3 months CD1 has been awful, never really has been until recently. I never knew about period poops until this discussion.... I think I had them last week- I figured it was a coincidence that it was CD1 and I couldn't leave the bathroom that morning. Guess not!
There have been months that I've luckily started on a weekend/holiday and have literally had to set up camp in the bathroom because I constantly feel like I need to go.  My H, who LOVES his bathroom time, knows that he must be quick no matter what business he needs to do.  I've made him cancel plans of having guests over when I wake up and it's CD1 because I don't feel like being in the bathroom, right off our living room, with company sitting right outside the door all.day.long.

  • I cry, at the drop of a hat. I know my period is coming when I start crying for no reason, and can't explain why. Which just makes the disappointment of not being pregnant more evident, because I'm already an emotional mess.

  • I think it was @tealowl that posted an article on here about period poos. It said something about when your body tells your uterus to cramp, sometimes it can cause other organs/systems in the same area to cramp as well, causing the trots.

My motto on my period is:
Feed me and tell me I'm pretty.

When I was a teenager, I had horrible periods...I would lay in bed and just cry because I hurt so bad. Then I was on BCP for four years which made my periods light and symptomless. I forgot what a bad period was like. I went off them when we started TTC in 2012. Oh my. I took those little miracle pills for granted. Now I'm an emotional wreck. I want nothing but carbs. I have diarrhea. My boobs feel like I've been hit with a truck, and the cramps are nearly debilitating. I don't have one "worst symptom." Pretty much the whole thing sucks and I don't even like thinking about it.
  • I almost left DH because my hormones were so out of whack bitchy- but that was more PMS related. I bleed for 8-12 days. It's just annoying.
  • SS - I get bloody noses. Apparently having blood coming out of one hole just isn't enough.

  • The backaches are the worst! I just can't get comfortable. I end up adjusting my car seat 100 times while I drive.

  • Mine is nausea to the point where I think I'm going to vomit.
  • I get an awful backache that lasts for two days. As soon as I get home from work, I lie down on a heating pad and wallow until bedtime.

This is me. I forgot how debilitating my cramps were before bc. The only bring that "cures" me is an electric heating pad and sleep. I used to faint from them in high school. Thank God that's over.

Yes!  Period poops suck rocks!  I always have to find excuses to sneak off at work.  It's not like you can just tell a patient-"well, sorry I won't be taking care of you today, I'm off to my monthly colon cleansing".

  • Fucking everything. Cramps, bleeding so heavy I soak a pad in an hour, bitchiness that makes me hate myself.

I usually end up leaving work early if CD1 is a weekday because my cramps are so miserable even with Midol.

I'm so glad I temp now and know when to expect it...I can at least give DH some warning that I'm going to be a sorry excuse for a human being for a few days.

  • Mine always change. Some months I'm a raging manic, some I have cramps from the depths of hell, I stay in the bathroom pooping more than not. Ugh, I went to the movies a couple months ago and when I went to go to bathroom I stood up and it was like someone turned on the faucet full blast! Bled through everything! Had to call my husband while he was sitting in the theatre to come and leave with me. Luckily I had a purse to hide my backside:(

So needless to say, I get "surprised" every month to see who the winner is!
  • CRAMPs horrible horrible cramps! Last couple of cycles it's been real bad. You know it's bad when you get woken up out of shear pain. Yup this happened this morning. So much for sleeping in on a Saturday! :-(

  • For me its definitely the cramps. I almost always have to call in sick if CD1 starts on a week day. I can barely walk they are so bad the first day. After that they lessen and other symptoms take over, but for me the cramps are the most unbearable.
  • I get uncomfortable cramps on CD1 but nothing debilitating so, for me, the disappointment that I'm not pregnant is the worst.
