Apparently parents think it's fine to send their child to school if they're sick. I now have bronchitis and I know exactly which child gave it to me [-(
And what really makes me mad is when the parent sends in a note saying, my child is very sick with _____, please let them stay inside during recess.
    No.

That sucks! We are just getting past bronchitis over here and the cabin fever that has occurred because I couldn't take DS to play with friends until his Pedi said he was no longer contagious.

I feel bad for working parents because unless you have a good support/back up plan it is a balancing act, especially if you have limited time off. Something like a cold that could linger for a week or more would be hard to take an entire week off of work every time it occurred. I do agree though if they are too sick to play, they are too sick to be at school.

I know :( and I understand how hard it can be to take off. I get the ones that come to school with a constant cough/cold, but I had one with a note a couple of months ago saying, L has the flu. Please call me if he gets worse. Or the ones that have been vomiting all night. It's not fair to the other kids/teachers.
Sorry to hear y'all had bronchitis too. It sucks!!!

We are all entitled to our own opinions.  I hope your the information you have used to make your decision on this is based real research, not blogs, celebrity books/opinions, or other non-legit sources!    I'm not saying you are using blogs or celebrity "stuff" or non-legit research, I'm stating that those are sources for A LOT of people!
Not everybody on here is from the US, so their countries regulations are different.

While your sources are legit for where you live, so are mine (and possibly hers) for where we live.

Yep I can't get Tdap while pregnant, doesnt mean I don't vaccinate my children, or myself.

Unless I missed it, how has this not been brought up before?

I don't know. I usually stay out if the Tdap debate because I know I won't get one during pregnancy. Maybe other people are just scared to bring it up because everyone on here is so pro vaccines (not that I am against them, I am very much for them), that they don't want to get flamed for something they can't control?!

    I dunno lol

Don't flame me TOO hard... But I've never used birth control pills, nor do I ever plan to. I've heard the horror stories of women who do use them, only to have it thwart their entire reproductive system, and they end up with infertility issues. I've also known plenty of women that use them regularly and have had no problems, so I'm not saying that NO ONE EVER should use them.. Just that even though its a tiny risk, its not one I'm willing to take.
I'm not going to flame you on not using BC. That's an individual choice. But on your comment about BC causing infertility issues, I don't think that's true. My understanding is that BC use can mask fertility issues that you may have discovered sooner had you not been on BC. I'm not a doctor, so sow one else can feel free to refute that, but that's what I've always heard.
I was on BC for 15 years and it did mask fertility issues that I was having.  It's not that way for everyone, but for me it was.  My ovaries are insulin resistant and because of that I rarely ovulate on my own (maybe 3 or 4 times a year).  While on BC I had month periods, so I never knew.  I started taking BC the month after I got my first period when I was 16.I had to take Metformin & fertility drugs just to get my cycles going when we started trying to conceive.

After this kid comes out I will not be going back on BC.  My husband has fertility issues as well, so our chances of conceiving on our own is only about 2%.  But as they say, "the best cure for infertility is having a baby."  So condoms for at least 6 months, then we'll see how it goes.

  • I think if you can't differentiate among BFM, UO, and FFFC after 7 months on this board, then you shouldn't post in those threads. Probably not unpopular. Here's my real UO: I think SUVs are stupid, gas-guzzling vehicles. They really don't give you much more space than a big sedan and some people buy them as a status symbol rather than as a real need.
I so agree with this.  I particularly hate Tahoes for some reason, and I secretly judge all the moms in my playgroup who drive them and only have one tiny baby.

@bandteacher I had a similar one a while back, in that I don't understand why people insist on buying an SUV as soon as they have a kid. Sure if you're planning on 2 kids or more in a short time and have a dog or something, but to immediately run out and trade in your perfectly good sedan because you are pregnant with #1 is silly to me. I have a Ford Taurus and it's nice and big, perfect for two kids and a roomy trunk, I don't need a huge SUV for "all the baby stuff!"

I've been on some form of birth control, be it the pill (I think I've tried them all), the patch, nuva ring even the Depo shot since I was 13 because I have labor pain type cramps and was hyperventilating from the pain.  I stopped taking the pill at 32 and waited the prescribed three months before we started trying and got pregnant in the first month and I'm super thankful and know this is not the norm.  So maybe I'm an anomaly, but I've never heard that birth control pills cause infertility.

  • UO 1 - I desperately want our next car to be a minivan.

UO 2 - I also felt a sense of relief when I started seeing stretch marks. So much better than worrying and constantly lathering to try to prevent them. They are here and they are not horrible. I can deal with that.

Also I'm in Canada and my OB and GP both strongly urged me to get my tdap which is did last week. I think the recommendation varies by doc.

Just while pregnant. It wasn't a recommendation when I had my last 2 children and my LO won't be around other children except for his siblings. We will get him vaccinated at 2 months. As for flu shots I never get one and neither have my kids.

I will never understand refusing to get a flu shot.  I know they don't protect against all strains, but they protect against some of them.  Our neighbors' daughter died 2 weeks ago from the flu, and she was 30.  If something like that happened to my kids, I would never be able to forgive myself knowing I didn't do everything I could to protect them.

I think it may also be based on provincial/regional recommendations. I know in my region, it is not recommended because their is no outbreak so the risks outweigh the benefits.

Same here; I agree with all of these.  We got a new car for baby (well it's DH's car, and he was ready for a new car anyway) and we got a plug-in Prius.  There's plenty of room in the trunk for a stroller, the backseat is roomy, and it saves a ton of gas.  We're totally happy with it.  And - bonus - we got carpool stickers for it so his commute is much faster now.  Win-win!  I'll take that any day over a giant, gas-guzzling SUV.  I don't see why a tiny baby would need any more space than a sedan could provide.

  • Ok on the birth control/ fertility aspect. Birth control pills are actually sometimes used to help regulate hormones when people have issues such as polycystic ovaries.

I took them to regulate my hormones and then came off and got pregnant. ( unfortunately that one ended in a molar pregnancy)
