February 2014 Moms

TMI: Hemmie fun.

I was supposed to work until almost 39 weeks, but had to leave on Tuesday at 38 weeks. I couldn't physically work my desk job due to a hemmie the size of my friggin' thumb! I suspect it's thrombosed.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any miracle solutions? Dr. Google isn't much help.

I've tried ointments, witch hazel and aloe wipes, sitz baths, hot and cold compresses, and it's still so painful I can't sit and can barely walk. I see my doctor Tuesday.

I'm officially ready for this kid to make an appearance...

Oh no :(. Tucks pads are the best solution I know of.

  • That's awful. Hopefully your doctor has an idea. I've heard of some people having them lanced, but I don't know under what circumstances that would work.
Mine goes up & down & the only things that keep it tolerable at this point is using a wipe every time & keeping the Prep H on it. I'm a little scared of what pushing a baby out is going to do to it.
  • @scottnsaranhenri - that's my fear too! I want to be in fighting shape for labour.  Right now I'd take an epi just to get through my searing butt pain, lol.

Mine comes and goes too! Ugh, I am in so much pain some days. On really bad days (ha - think this thread is TMI now? Well saddle up) I actually keep a Tucks pad folded up against it between my cheeks.
Totally did this with mine too
Me three! Sorry OP!! Hang in there!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • Me 5 :). Although, I worried about it getting worse after delivery, and somehow it got better? Maybe everything down there is still just a little numb.

  • well they are called "tucks" right? Tuck that thing in there! Lol, I had to do that too for post partum with my first.
  • I thought that's how you were supposed to use the tucks pads! I feel like I can't get the things lodged in there good enough! I am in so much pain! I had them and then they went away and pregnancy was tolerable again. Suddenly this damn thing came back out of nowhere with a vengeance!!! I don't even get any releif at night or when I wake up in the am. It is excruciating at this point an I am soooooo worried about labor and what it's going to be like afterwards.
  • I'm also terrified about post-labour. Last time they got to be the size of golf balls and I didn't have any pre-labour :(

  • The key to getting rid of a hemmi is to relieve pelvic pressure which obviously being 9 months pregnant is hard to do. My suggestion based on long term suffering from butt issues - find ways to elevate pelvic pressure. For one day if possible don't sit on your butt at all. Put a pillow underneath your hips and elevate the area and lie down on your side. Do this for most of the day and add a 30 min walk ( because you do need good circulation to the area as well). Try an ice pack to reduce inflammation or Epsom Salt in warm water( not hot) and take a Sitz bath. Lastly eat prunes at night so that you don't have to strain the next day to go. As long as you avoid straining, relive pelvic pressure and do things to reduce inflammation it should help. It helped me last week when nothing else was working. All the best!
  • Oh man, that's the worst.  Hope your doctor can help!
