The Super Bowl is meh. I don't like a lot of professional sports because they get paid WAY too much for what they do. But I did choose the Seahawks at the beginning because I liked their uniforms the best and what do you know.. They made it to the Super Bowl.
My iPhone 5 only costs me 50/month and to me, that's not an arm and a leg. I use my phone all day/ every day. I would not be able to function without it... Which is sad but it's so useful!
I think this will be a UO as it's essentially beating a dead horse but I still get really bothered by the horrible grammar and spelling in posts. I'm not talking about in-a-rush or one-handed-typing typos here...I'm talking about misuse of where/were they're/their/there your/you're etc
...and Super Bowl....blah blah blah it stinks
March Siggy Challenge: whatever you want! --> ORIGINAL CHALLENGE: GIF YOUR BABY!
I pretty much agree with everyone's offerings so far (except the flip phonelol)
My UO: if you're going to ask me to be bridesmaid, either let me pick my own (inexpensive) dress or pay for the overpriced dress you pick because that plus alterations is going to take all my "me money" for two months. I think bridesmaid dresses are overpriced especially considering nine times out of ten you spend a shit ton to alter them.

To the bolded - whaaaa?! I pay 116 every month for my semi-functioning iPhone 4..
Mine to. I get unlimited calling and texts 50 a month 53.99 with tax. I don't have data but I have wifi at home so I don't need it. I bought my phone without a plan and use the ATT go phone plan. I had to pay $500 for my phone but I've already made that back saving monthly.

chelseyestelle You have proven me wrong. $50 a month is definitely affordable. Most people I know pay in the $100-150 range per month and I think that is nuts. My flip phone is $35 for calling and texting, but I would pay $50
I seriously pay $52/month for unlimited everything. I'm on a family plan with my husband and my parents (4 of us) and we all pay that.
I just saw a commercial for sprints new "framily" plan which means everyone on it pays $25/month so I thought I was getting ripped off!

More of a rant than an UO. Sorry.
I agree. I have so many useless dresses from being a bridesmaid. I let mine pick whatever black dress they wanted because of this.
Me too. This is why I paid for all my BM dresses and their hair. You're doing me a favor by being in my wedding and it's unfair for me to ask you to shell out hundreds if dollars to participate. That being said, I don't mind pampering the bride with a nice shower and bachelorette, as long as it's reasonable. Destination bachelorette parties are expensive and selfish of the bride to expect people to pay for anything more than a day at the spa and a night on the town.

I pay about $60 a month for my phone through Verizon. We have unlimited data.
I absolutely agree with the bridesmaids stuff. So glad that living in Germany has made it impossible for me to be in my friend's weddings (although only two of them had bridesmaids at all). When I got married, our siblings just wore their nice outfits.
Valentine's Day is stupid. It's become a day where women EXPECT their SO's to get them gifts and shower them with rose pedals and chocolates and diamonds. Some women will pout or bitch to their friends about how their husbands disappointed them on Valentine's Day with not getting them all these obligatory unnecessary gifts!
Sorry not sorry, but I think getting a random gift or flowers throughout the year is way more romantic than a gift out of fear your SO will be upset with you for not getting her anything or not getting the right thing. I just think it puts unnecessary stress on people especially men.
I fail at getting my words out so hopefully that all makes sense.
Yup. But add birthdays, Christmas, and anniversarys for me.
I don't see it as any different from EXPECTING a push present. If the SO wants to buy a nice present and show how much they care in the form of a gift- great. But the expectation of gifts is redicious.

I wish I had an UO but I got nothing. Bummer.
I was in 2 weddings back to back in the fall, similar color schemes and I asked both brides if I could just wear the same dress in both weddings. They looked at me as if I had2 heads. I ended up spending $500+ on those weddings.
ETA: My UO, if it's considered one, I am wanting to rejoin the Facebook world after a 1+ year hiatus.
So... umm... I'll post a possibly slightly less controversial one. I think quitting your job immediately after returning from maternity leave, in a case where you're not being mistreated or having medical complications or something like that, is a slap in the face to your coworkers.
Super Bowl: I could not be more excited for my Seahawks! When you are a Seattle sports fan, this is a huge deal - it's very rare for any of our teams to do well, let alone play in the biggest game of the year!!! Go Hawks!!!
Phones: my work pays for mine, so i have no idea what it costs. That being said, I have no excuse to not check work emails at all hours of the day and on vacay. Work sucks - I hate my boss and my clients who expect me to drop everything for them.
Bridesmaid dresses: I see both sides to this debate. You are already spending a shit ton of money on the wedding, might as well add on some dresses and hair. but it's kind of traditional that a BM pays for her dress. I just tried to keep the cost down so it wasn't outrageous.
My UO: I still dislike putting my LO in onesies. There are more parts to keep track of with pants and socks and she still hates getting them over her head. I think babies that are walking around look stupid in footed pjs unless it is their pjs and it's bedtime, so not sure when I'll finally make the switch. She has tons of cute outfits in the closet ready to wear, so I guess it won't be too much longer...

My DD is 4 months old and I have never put a piece of clothing over her head. I always taking advantage of the split in the shoulders and put it on from the feet up. Onesies, shirts, dresses...

@Sweet Tooth 87 HOW?! I need to know. My husband's bill is $130/mo for 8GB of data and unlimited talk/text. And that includes a 19% discount for state employees. Are you grandfathered in? Do you pay Verizon in cookies?!

I will take that into consideration! BUT sometimes I'm too lazy to deal with all the pieces still.
Oh and bacon is delish!
Lastly, i think it depends on your line of work re quitting. My bosses have already lined up people to take care of my work while I'm out and my mat leave is 6 months. There is a lot of turnover in people and clients/jobs where I work, so it's not as though they are doing twice as much with me gone, it all spreads out and it is planned for well in advance. If I were to leave now when things are all covered, it would be much better than giving my 2 weeks any other time bc that would be a scramble to fix.
My first UO I'm excited.
I think baby clothes are ridiculously overpriced and I refuse to buy them new. Most of Owen's wardrobe is from consignment sales or Craigslist, and it is still mostly name-brand and in new condition. Another UO - Craigslist is awesome. I have bought/sold tons of stuff off of it, met lots of nice people, and never been robbed/attacked/gotten bedbugs etc.. That's kind of lame but it's the best I've got!
And I completely agree about the bridesmaids dresses! I am in 3 weddings this year and dreading the price tags. Going shopping on Saturday with my best friend to pick out the dress for her wedding - hoping she'll remember that I picked dresses that were under $100, but judging by the store we are going to, I don't think she's worried about cost...
So... umm... I'll post a possibly slightly less controversial one. I think quitting your job immediately after returning from maternity leave, in a case where you're not being mistreated or having medical complications or something like that, is a slap in the face to your coworkers.
Did this. I was not being mistreated or dealing with any medical complications; I just wanted to SAH with my baby. I'm not at all sorry. My coworkers knew I wouldn't be coming back so there were no surprises. I still see most of them on the regular, and there are no hard feelings.
If they knew you wouldn't be coming back, it sounds like they weren't blindsided which makes it better in my mind.
I have no idea what I pay for my phone, my h pays the bills and I only pretend to listen (confession, not a UO) we pay somewhere around 130 for 3 phones, only 2 have data, but it's not unlimited. I would die without my iPhone.
I'm normally meh about football, Super Bowl, sports in general, but I love my city so much I can't help but to be proud and excited this time around.
I don't want a gift on valentines day, but I want some romantic gesture. I dislike birthday and Christmas gifts, though.
Having male friendships is fine if everyone knows the boundaries.
@lucygoose8710 re: Craigslist, I have a friend who was robbed at gunpoint, tied to chairs, while their baby slept upstairs and the guys were going through their house. The next day, the same "team" killed someone. Craigslist terrifies the fvck outta me.
Phones... I couldn't live without my smart phone. DH and I just switched to StraightTalk. We have ATT service but only pay $45 (plus taxes) each for unlimited everything for the month. It's fantastic. We did have to buy our phones but they weren't too bad. I have a Nexus 5 (love it!) and I think it was $400.
Bridesmaid dresses... Totally on board with this one! When I got married I sent an email to all of my BM's asking what they felt comfortable spending and to take alterations into mind as well. I kept my dresses at the lowest budget set and they were all happy. It limited the selection I could choose from, but all of my girls were happy and it was much more important to me to have them standing with me that day. Maybe it was a tacky thing to do (asking about budget) but I know my friends/family well enough that it was taken the way that I meant it to.
And whoever said they can't eat bacon...
I also totally agree with @Brandontricia ... maybe it's because I've been burned in the past. But I'm so thankful that this is not something I ever have to worry about with DH.
So... umm... I'll post a possibly slightly less controversial one. I think quitting your job immediately after returning from maternity leave, in a case where you're not being mistreated or having medical complications or something like that, is a slap in the face to your coworkers.

No. Men and women leave their jobs for plenty of reasons and it generally sucks for the remaining employees. Moms shouldn't be held to a different higher standard for deciding to leave their job. As long as they put in their 2 weeks (or industry standard) that is sufficient.

Well I guess I slapped away bc I quit after going back. I had no idea if feel the way I did until I faced the separation. I wanted to continue my career and I was afraid of resume gaps, and I worked till my 39wk to ensure I had as much time with dd as possible.
But after 2 days of 10 hr seperation, DD not taking a bottle from dc, and seeing a red faced crying baby I said fuck it. I didn't care. We're fortunate enough that we can live off of dh salary alone and I couldn't come up with a good enough reason NOT to stay with her. I tried to see if I could switch to part-time but that wasn't an option. So I resigned. Thankfully my boss is a mom and she took 3yrs off when she had her daughter. I left on a positive note and was very grateful how understanding they were.
People change their minds and I don't think you know what it's like to feel the pain of seperation till you've been there. Sorry not sorry.
Well I do work full-time, my daughter is in daycare and I've often gone to daycare pickup to be met with a crying baby, so I have some idea of what you experienced. Sometimes I do wish I could SAH, but that would never be an option for me given that I am still in training and have student loan debt. We could live on DH's salary but it wouldn't make sense at all.
I guess that's all I have to say about that. No need for a debate today.
Exactly. I'll usually meet at a Starbucks or have multiple people around if its something large like furniture. No one comes into my home and I don't go into anyone else's.

lololol on the cookies!! They don't do the grandfathering anymore, but if you have a line on the plan that still had unlimited, there are work arounds that make it so you don't have to give up your unlimited when you upgrade. We're on the family plan if that has anything to do with the price. My DH used to work for Verizon so I guess he knows the tricks. I'll try to get some info out of him on how to keep it low. I do know we have a discount...not sure which one...maybe one for being federal employees.

I may be wrong but my impression was that she quit that day.
If you guys are talking about me, I gave 2 weeks notice. I was supposed to go back on 1/6, and I resigned right before Christmas.

Holy shit!!!! That is terrifying!
But you are only supposed to meet people in public parking lots! Never give out your address!!!

@PixiesDust dont even get me started on the bachelorette party...looking at a weekend in Vegas, flight alone will be $600, although MoH is paying for hotel... nope octopus. That is my work busy season so im not allowed to take off, so I cant go anyway.
Oh, my UO, I think it's weird that people who don't post or participate on the board at all slam us with pics of their LO on our weekly pic threads.
I mean, cute baby, but WHO are you? I see so many SN that you don't see anywhere else at all. It's weird. Wait, I think this is more of a fffc... eh, whatevs.
My UO is stemming off of last weeks FFFC. I do not think you should have close friends of the opposite sex (unless they are gay and have no interest in buying what you are selling). I honestly think it will eventually lead to something more for one of the parties involved and is a bad idea. I am not talking about your husbands best friend is your friend. I am talking about the guy you call, text, and email. It's weird and I would be pissed if my DH had a "girl" friend calling /texting him all the time. In my experience whenever I see or hear of someone doing this I eventually hear about the shit storm that follows. Call me insecure, but I have seen it go bad too many times. Luckily, DH and I have never put the other in that situation, but we have dealt with it within our close family and it was so horrible.
I agree with you for the most part, but I think I would be comfortable with situations where the friendship was there before my relationship with DH was. For example, I had a guy friend in college before DH and I got together and there was zero interest on either side. It was never going to develop into anything and I would've been sad if DH wanted me to end that relationship when we started dating.
I'm not really on board with brand new relationships after marriage/dating, but maybe it's just because DH was put in that situation very recently. A new coworker of his started hang around him and talking to him at work. She's our age but in a long distance relationship. I didn't like it but I wasn't going to forbid him to see or talk to his coworker. But then she started texting him at work AND at home. Nope, nope, nope. I shut that down real fast.
I think she had feelings for him but he didn't think she did, but he's not the brightest when it comes to that type of thing. This was a month or so after LO was born too and I didn't appreciate what she was doing. I was *this* close to texting her myself and going crazy on her (PP hormones) but I didn't. Luckily she quit in December and he hasn't heard from her.
I love my flip phone and think "smart" phone are dumb because they cost you an arm and a leg every month whereas my flip phone is cheap, yet useful. Kind of lame, but that is all I have.
My husband is a DM for Verizon. He told me that as of 2015 you won't be able to buy or even HAVE a flip phone or "basic" phone on any of their plans...same with AT&T. Give it a couple more years after that (2018 ish) even drivers licenses will be digital. I can't live without my "smart" phone now. Everyone will have to have one sooner or later.
I hate the term smart phone. It's a regular phone now. I haven't had a phone with buttons in like 8 years.

My FI always has had friends that are women. I don't have a problem with it as long as I meet them. I guess I feel better about it knowing the way they interact with eachother, if that makes any sense? Either way, it took me a while to get used to.. but now I don't mind.
Re: UO
Me when my co-workers start talking about it:
"Wow, you lost weight, you look great" does not mean that they thought you looked like ass before.
"Oh what a cute chubby baby" will not instill a lifelong weight complex on babies.
