Snuggles... or lack of

Does anyone else have a baby that's not a snuggler? Sometimes it hurts my feelings because I just want to love her and squeeze her but she rarely wants to be held "like a baby" and after she's done nursing she's just done. Please tell me I'm not alone in having a kid that already wants her space.

Re: Snuggles... or lack of

  • Joseph hates to snuggle... The only time I get away with it is when I give him a bottle :(

  • In my head I'm convince that somehow this will make her grow into some independent super woman but I know it's just how she is as a baby and try to accept it.

She doesn't even want to fall asleep on me and gets fussy until I actually put her in her bed and leave the room. As soon as the door shuts she goes to sleep. It's really bittersweet.

Yup. I get throat checked if I try to hug and snuggle her. Little baby elbows to the trachea are no fun.
    So vicious. ;)

  • I was just literally thinking to myself at 3:15 am how he only wants to be "cuddled" in the middle of the damn night. Otherwise, forget it! He's a mover and a shaker.
  • Not many snuggles here. She was super tired the other day and fell asleep on my chest for a few mins. I was ecstatic! Lol enjoy it in the rare moments it happens
  • Not a snuggler here either.  I don't miss the days when she would only sleep if I was holding her, but there is a part of me that misses the snuggles.  I wish it wasn't all or nothing from her!

Lo is a snuggler, but G totally wasn't. He was all business- nursing then done with me. Very independent little spirit and it broke my heart, but he is a happy healthy little guy. Now that he is almost 3 he manipulates DH and I by asking for snuggles and kisses to delay bedtime, but I totally take what I can get. We tried bedsharing and he kicked us with his swaddle until we let him have his own space. Punk. When I was pregnant this time I kept saying, "I'm making you a snuggler dammit!" and oh boy did I get payback for that! I can't get rid of Lo, he's like a stage 5 clinger. So you are not alone and there is hope for snuggles further down the line for you!

  • Another non snuggler here. While I don't miss the newborn days, I did like that he would sleep on me or in my arms.

  • @wasnotwas I'm pretty sure we're living the same lyfe in parallel universes or something today...
You aren't by any chance wearing black pants and a green top today?

  • You have no idea how sad yet happy I am to hear other moms are going through this. I hate it for all of us that we don't get the snuggles but it's such a relief to know I'm not alone. OJ fell asleep on me for like 5 minutes while she was nursing today and I just sat there even though I really needed to get up and make dinner.

She never has been. Except this weekend when she was sick. So sad she didn't feel well but selfishly loved every minute of the snuggles. I'm hoping that will change one day.
  • No snuggles here either. The only time she kind of will is at night when she's being nursed to sleep. Other than that she wants to see the world. My H comments all the time how it's so hard to get her to look at him while he's holding her. If she's on the floor or in my arms she'll stare at him, smile, make funny faces, but when he's holding her she's checking other things out

  • That's exactly how our Olivia is. We have to let people know that she doesn't want to be snuggled when they hold her or she'll scream like a banshee. She has to be looking away from you so she can see what's going on.

  • No snuggles from my little guy.  I can't even hold him or wear him facing in.  He HAS to face out.  When I pick him up, he pushes on me so he can spin around and face out.

He won't even let me hold/snuffle him when he falls (he's crawling and pulling up now, oh joy of joys) and starts crying.  He, like, angry cries or something.  It's a little strange.

In general though, he's a very social, smiley, loves people even strangers kind of guy so I don't worry too much about it.  (I still blame myself a little because I don't think I was a super snuggler with him when he was first born, but no way to tell if that has anything to do with it.)
