So after discussion with DH and his Mom they really want to do Lee as the middle name for his dad. I don't LOVE it because I think its a "boy" name. But I understand why and am okay with this since this is going to be the only chance for us because we are done. We will spell it Leigh. So which first name? Here are the contenders....

Sophia Leigh
Amelia/Mia Leigh
Alexa Leigh

I like Amelia. And FYI, my middle name is Lee and although it's usually the boy spelling, it's never bothered me.

I love Mia, but not Amelia. If it would definitely be Amelia, I would pick Sophia.

I like Amelia and Mia, but don't like Mia as a nickname for Amelia. It just doesn't sound logical to me.

I'm going to go with Alexa. It's pretty, although I like Alexia more, whereas the others are too popular for my taste. Also, I don't see Mia as a short for Amelia at all. It's a complete standalone name IMO.

If you are going to honor someone, use their actual name... It isn't really an honor for me when you change spellings and what not. That being said, I like Amelia best from your list but agree that Mia as a nn is a big stretch.

I agree with pp that you should just use Lee. I've seen Lee used as a mn on a girl quite a few times in real life actually. And I think you're not honoring him as much with changing up the spelling.

The only one I don't really like is Alexa. Alexa Leigh just sounds strange together.
And further, I would not ever have a serious name discussion with my mil. I'm in the camp where it's not really honoring some one if you're changing the name, so if you don't like it don't use it.

We were going to use her name for the baby but when we told her what we had decided, this was what she wanted. There is backstory but I am fine with it just hadn't really considered it. She asked us what we thought and DH really likes that idea. So its just something she ended up being included in and we are fine with it. MIL isn't pushy so ultimately the decision is ours of course.

There are tons of names that can honor "lee." My late fathers name was Philip, but we just really don't like the name so we are honoring him in another way via name meanings and other aspects of his life.
Other names to honor Lee:

Carlye
Leah / Lia
Lena
Julie
Molly

Get my drift here? Pick a name you really love. It's not about the actual name, but more about how you and DH want to use it to honor someone.

I think Alexa Leigh flows the best but Alexa is my least favorite of the three. I like Amelia the most.
Just my opinion but I've never cared for Leigh as a girl mn because I always read it Lay (like sleigh)
