Cloth Diapering

Need new diaper cream recs, please!

Hi ladies - I always used CJ's when I CDed my son and loved it though he hardly ever got rashes.  My DD, however, has eczema which I think makes her rashes worse and more frequent, especially in the winter. CJ's just doesn't seem to be cutting it for her. I tried coconut oil also, which hasn't really helped (I accidentally got the refined, most people say to get the unrefined...but others have said it doesn't matter).

Can anyone suggest what they use? I feel like I need something more "medicated" when her rashes get bad. I have to put disposables on when that happens, with Triple Cream or Desitin. If I could find something that would work well with cloth, that'd be ideal.

Thanks!

  • We love Grandma Els for rashes and eczema here. I just slathered my SOs hands in it and put on his cotton gloves for his eczema. It's good stuff.

  • +1 Grandma El's is great.

We've also been trying out Waxelene on some non-diaper area eczema and it's a nice product. It does seem to be helping to calm down a stubborn problem spot on DS's ankle.
  • for a natural option, @chickypoo2468 recommended waxalene for her sons eczema and @mandmeesh swears by goats milk lotion. When we use something more heavy duty on H's eczema, we use cerave lotion, but it's got extra junk in it so I don't like to use it as often.
thanks, @secretagentkate :)  yup, goat's milk lotion is amazing stuff

  • I've never tried waxelene or goat's milk lotion since G's skin issues are fairly minor.  I will say for non-eczema related rashes we LOVE Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm.  I've never had to use it for more than 24 hours before his rashes clear up.  In the early days, he had some rashes that even Desitin or Triple Paste wouldn't clear up, but EMAB did.

I will say if you use too much EMAB you can get some minor staining/build up on CDs though. You only need a little dab!

  • I recommend Grandma El's too, but with the caution that it can cause some diapers to repel. I never have problems with my BG or my Blueberry diapers (suedecloth and fleece, respectively), but I can't use Grandma El's with my Kawaii HD's. For me, it's worth it to avoid the Kawaiis, since Grandma El's is the ONLY cream that we've been able to find that works for my LO. Without it, he gets very rashy. (Is that a word?)
  • We've had good luck with Grovia Magic Stick. I've heard that CJ's Plus is also good for eczema.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions!!  Definitely gives me enough options to find something new.

@Mandmeesh, do you use the goats milk lotion in the diaper area too, or only for eczema on the rest of the skin?

I use it everywhere. My son doesn't have eczema, but I have friends/neighbors that use it in the diaper area. But, for my son I use it all over his body for moisturizing his skin. It fully absorbs into the skin so is okay for CDs

  • We also love Grandma El's.  LO has bad eczema, but not in his diaper area.  We just use it when he's showing a little redness down there.
  • Thanks all!
