GTKY: What relaxes you?

Hi everyone, I'd love to start getting to know you all on here - and not just by stalking! One of my New Years Resolutions is to find new hobbies and ways to relax/distress.

What do you ladies do to relax and/or de stress?

I love getting into a really good book, and when that doesn't work for me, organizing things tends to bring me some relaxation and calm (believe it or not!)

Re: GTKY: What relaxes you?

  • Loading the player...
  • Alone with a pile of sushi and a bottle of red wine. Sorry, I know this isn't a "hobby". I just love any alone time I can get.

  • Reading is my number one. I do a lot of different crafts. I do my nails. Make "friendship" bracelets. I recently found a lot of patterns.

Ignoring my husband sometimes helps! Haha!

  • Reading and online shopping

  • Reading cheesy romance books while taking a bubble bath.

    Red wine. More red wine.

Exercise (i know...I know!) Sometimes a 30 minute walk really helps.

  • Running helps, beer or wine helps too.

    TTC #1 for 18+ months - Age 32
Aug-2014: All initial testing went well, waiting for 2015 for possible IUI.
Love beer and bagels (not together), hate olives

  • Go for a walk on the beach with my husband and puppy.  Shop.  Throw on comfy clothes and read a book or watch an indie flick.  Go to dinner with my sisters.  Get a manicure/pedicure.  Have my hair played with or get a back scratch.

But most of all, the most relaxing thing for me is laying with my husband and laughing together about all types of stupid things (things we found online - vine/youtube clips etc, tv like impractical jokers, doing overly exaggerated impressions of people/situations, taking turns pretending that we are the voice of our insanely insecure and overly excitable puppy)

  • Vodka :)  Dancing.. ballet relaxes me the most out of anything. It sends me into my own world, and calms me.   Music does the same.

    Reading- either books or magazines.
And baking. I love to be in the kitchen, and it's relaxing as long as I'm alone in there.

  • Alone I like at home manis, reading, baking, shopping aimlessly at Target lol. With H a glass of wine & a movie.

  • I just got out of the worlds hottest shower, snuggled back in bed with my fluffy bath robe on, and the boy is playing quietly by himself. I feel wonderful.

When I am stressed to the point of anger/anxiety/depression, I take a ridiculously long walk alone. It gives me a chance to think things through, ugly cry alone if I need it, and decide what's the beat course of action without having someone bugging me.
  • Yes @MrsG713 shopping aimlessly at Target is awesomesauce. bonus points if your Target has a starbucks.

I love me some Target. I could spend a whole day at Target.
Ours does not have Starbucks (which is OK with me, I'm not a fan.. ::ducks:: ) but it does have the worlds best popcorn (besides movie theater popcorn) and some yummy pizza and breadsticks.

In the short term, my new approach is to think of something I'm grateful for. I'm working on anger management and it sort of works...

  • Oh, just thought of another one.

Driving aimlessly with my favorite music on.  I drove 40 minutes up to Castle Rock and back on Sunday and it was heavenly.
The farthest south I ever go is Centennial- is there anything to do in Castle Rock?

Oh how I wish mine had a Starbucks!! Damn! In all seriousness, you ladies are making me consider jumping in a hot shower, going to Target, and spending my afternoon reading and bumping at Starbucks. Lol!

  • I read, watch random netflix shows (currently Vampire Diaries, Doctor Who, and X-Files), design digital scrapbook supplies, and snuggle with my guys.

Have you watched Orange Is The New Black? Hilarious!!
  • I also love to be alone. Is drink tea, read, and bake. I love crafting, but I'm not sure if its relaxing to me. I also second aimless wandering Target.

  • Go for a walk on the beach with my husband and puppy.  Shop.  Throw on comfy clothes and read a book or watch an indie flick.  Go to dinner with my sisters.  Get a manicure/pedicure.  Have my hair played with or get a back scratch.

Oh my gosh, haha... My husband and I do the voices of our dogs too! Our big guy, Rocky, sounds like Antonio Banderas, and our little girl, Bella, had a bitchy valley-girl voice!

  • Another one for alone time!  I also love baking and lounging with my husband on the couch.  If I'm stressed because I feel like there's a lot on my plate, cleaning always helps because I feel like I'm accomplishing something and I can see the results immediately.

This is me!!! Add a book to the bath with wine and I'm in heaven. If thI can keep the water hot enough, I can be in the bath for well over an hour. Once I was in for so long DH forgot I was home.

DH is pretty sweet when he know's I'm stressed out and comes to check on me and see if I need a refill :-)

  • Don't judge me, but being alone relaxes me the most. Now, add some isolated woods to explore, with hot chocolate to come home to, and I'm in heaven!
This sounds great. On top of alone time, I like wine. Oh, and doing jigsaw puzzles (in peace and quiet).

  • I like to bake when I'm stressed, thankfully, I don't feel the need to eat it anymore (coworkers win). If I'm really upset, I talk to my departed dog (go ahead, call me a nut cookie); she was and will always be my best friend. I always feel better after a talk with her.
  • I enjoy sewing, reading, and pinning crap that I'll never have the time to make.

Other crafters should join us on the Crafty Moms board!!  I love it over there!!
I feel like I'm not legit crafty enough to join....does that make sense? Like I sew circles and squares. I knit a few rows and frog it. I'm intimidated by the people making actual things.

  • Honestly, I like cleaning to de-stress. I like having visible results, and when I'm really frustrated, scrubbing is cathartic.
I love sewing and making crafts, and in the long term, it helps relax me, but during the project, I tend to get really frustrated.
