Spit up related to solids?

I started my 5.5 mo daughter on rice cereal last Sat and did it for two days. The 2nd day she was up all night so I assumed she was having trouble digesting the iron and stopped feeding it to her. A few days later I decided to try baby food apples. She seemed to like them and I gave them to her 3 days in a row. The morning after the 3rd time (yesterday) she projectile spit up and has had a little bit of spit up several times over the past 2 days. She normally doesn't spit up much at all. How do I know if it's the apples causing it or something I ate since I EBF? Should I assume that her stomach isn't ready for solids yet? Is it even possible to be allergic to apples and if so does spit up count as an allergic reaction? Thanks!

  • It's hard bc it cld be anything. I wld think if u have been keeping a normal diet, the exposure to diff foods wld mean that I'd know earlier if lo has allergies. I have a friend whose lo had allergies and she wld throw up, had diarrhea, breathing issues, reflux, etc depending on what she ate and how severe the allergy. Both of my girls had/have milk allergy as infants and they'd spit up a ton. I'd say call the ped and get their thoughts. Or take a break on that food and see what happens when u try again.

  • It's possible to be allergic to apples but it's also possible she had a touch of a stomach bug (it's going around big time).  I'd back off the apples and reintroduce later.  Give her stomach a few days to rest and then try something else.

  • DS1 would projectile vomit after most baby food. When I started making my own, I realized (after lots of trial and error) that he was reacting to the apple juice they use to mix almost every jar of baby food (no matter what fruit/veggie it is). He had awful acid reflux and just could not take the acidity of the apple juice. She may not be allergic, just sensitive. Try pureing your own food for her and see if there is a different reaction.
