June 2014 Moms

*~* Born To Run June Bugs Check In *~*

This is a weekly thread for runners who are due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays. All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. This is a place to talk about running while pregnant, training, runs, races, gear, recovery, nutrition, and whatever else we can think of.

Anyone who posts here regularly should feel free to start the thread on Mondays if it seems to be missing.

How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...

GTKY: What is your short &/or long term running goal?

Re: *~* Born To Run June Bugs Check In *~*

  • How were your runs this week? Lay it on us A measly 1.15 miles for me. It was a jog/walk combo as my daughter rode her bike down the street and hardly counted for any type of cardio but I was able to test out my toe and I think I am good to get out there today for a real run! When my daughter was going downhill and I was actually running along side her it felt great and I didn't want to stop.

GTKY: What is your short &/or long term running goal? I read the book Run Like A Mother and now really want to run a half marathon at some point. I'm not sure I can ever pull of a full marathon but maybe one day. I bought the sequel Train Like A Mother and plan on reading that this Spring so I can have a game plan for postpartum training. I'd like to do the 1/2 marathon in Dec '14 but we will see.

  • Good morning!  Hope that your toe is getting better!

My runs this week were good for the most part.  I was able to get on the treadmill 5x!  Only 1 of those times I wasn't really able to run much so I went on the elliptical instead.  I really really hope I see my weight slow down because I am being very dedicated and good about eating and if I don't see progress I know I'm going to get discouraged.

Running goals aren't too specific.  I want to run as long as I possibly can when pregnant.  I hope I make it to the end, but I know lots of better runners than me and only one of them was able to run until the end.  Once baby comes, I'd like to work on getting faster.  I would love to say that 8 minute miles was my regular/easy pace.

  • @kinipela7 I've seen your HDBD photos and I'm sure your weight is right on track!!! Don't be too hard on yourself with all this exercise. Remember, muscles weighs more than fat!
  • How were your runs this week? Overall, my runs were good but I didn't get in as many as I'd like. I got in three days of running totaling a little over 16 miles for the week. My long run on Saturday (8.2 miles) felt really good so I'm happy about that. I'm going to the sports med doc today to get some insight on the knee/hip issues I've been having which I suspect are IT Band related.

GTKY: What is your short &/or long term running goal? Short term is to stay running as long as possible throughout pregnancy and keep up 3-4 days/week. Long term is to improve my marathon time and eventually run it in sub-4 hours.

  • How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...

Runs and workouts were pretty solid last week.  I ran twice for 30 minutes each time, or about 3 miles.  My new "thing" is to run for time rather than distance.  That way I can set my pace where I am comfortable and not be stressing about how few miles I got in or how slow I am.  Other than that, I got in a lot of walking (my goal is 30-45 minutes every day at work which I was able to do 4 out of 5 days last week!), a weight lifting session, and a Zumba class!  I hadn't done ZUmba in forever, since I was pregnant with DD, and I forgot how fun it is.  It's a great workout when you're pregnant because it's super easy to modify if you need to, and it is something different to keep me from getting bored.  Definitely planning to make it a new part of my Saturday morning routine :)

GTKY: What is your short &/or long term running goal? Short-short term is to keep running at least through the end of 2nd tri, hopefully longer.  Short term goal is a fall half marathon.  Long term goal is to remain injury free and run for as long as I can- I definitely want to be racing in the "Masters" age group!  :)

  • I did it! Just got back from a 3.55mi run :) Geez, I can't believe how hard that was after a 5 week break! My toe felt fine, which was good. I'm sure I looked like a "New Years Resolution Wanna-Be" with my belly busting thru my tank top  :-S

I haven't been running since a couple of weeks after finding out baby was on the way, my doc was really picky about Heart rate control. I dreamt last night that I was running, I guess that means I miss it. But the weather here would be too miserable to try running even if I wasn't pregnant. I've been keeping up with Zumba at least 3 days per week.

  • I can participate this week! YAY second trimester energy!

How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...
I ran once, last Monday, outside, since the temperatures were a little more mild than they have been. 5K. Took it super easy since this was my first run since October, walked plenty. It felt pretty good, but I had to go pee pretty much the whole time, even though I went just before I went out.

GTKY: What is your short &/or long term running goal? I'd like to get out at least once again this week, preferably twice, but I'm not going to beat up on myself if I can't. Also, yoga 5 days a week this week.

  • How were my runs? Overall good. I got in 7.5ish miles running and "2.5" on the elliptical. I am so sore tho! I read that it might have something to do with my joints getting looser to prepare for labor or something??

Short/long term goals: nothing specific, but a personal one is definitely to keep running until at least 3rd trimester!!

    Proud of you ladies!!!

Anyone used a belly support device yet?
  • Great job ladies- keep up the great work!!

@sjdihle - I'm wondering about a support band as well - hope someone will chime in because I think I'm going to need one really soon!

Hi ladies, do any of you have any information/advice on running while breastfeeding?

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • I have a maternity support belt from my 1st pregnancy that I love. I wouldn't run in it I don't think though. Not sure if they make one for exercise - I'll try to look
  • Very impressed with everyone's workout regimens! Wow!
The cold weather has wrecked havoc on outdoor exercise, but the slightly warmer days this week helped. Got in two 2-3 mile runs this week. Running is increasingly difficult every single time I go out. Does anyone know if support bands can help with relief on my bladder??

Goals... I hope to run as long as I can into my pregnancy. Today I had a scare, though: about 2 miles in, I felt these quick jerks below my ribs, almost like kicks but I know they can't be kicks yet. They happened about 3 times, then I started walking, and felt a few as I walked to cool down. I don't know what on earth they were, but they scared me, and I don't know how to proceed with running!
  • @nicolinab how far along are you?  Also, peeing is an issue for me now too, I went until like 16 weeks without any pee problems now it can't seem to get my bladder to empty before I need to go again! I just go right when we get to the gym or right before we strike out on a run... So far its worked!
  • @sjdihle - 20 weeks. I pee right before I run, but usually need to go about a mile in. I don't have a gym membership, so I'm at the mercy of outdoors. I am not above peeing in the woods, which is what I usually do now! I ordered a support band and will see if that helps.
  • which support band did you order @nicolinab
  • My runs this week were pretty good. I was on vacation and due to constantly having to pee, I had to run on the treadmill. I ran 35 miles and did some cross training. Saturday was a terrible run, I was dragging and going so slow. I felt really discouraged, but then Sunday I had a fantastic run. It felt like a pre-pregnancy run!

My running goal is to keep running as long as possible. While I hope that is until my due date, I just don't know if that is realistic. Either way, I plan to do some sort of exercise until my due date.

Regarding belly bands- I saw one on amazon that gets good reviews. It is Gabriella brand.

I've been out once so far this week for 30min running + 30min walking and hope to get out once more. I usually crossfit 3-4 times a week plus do a couple of gentle hatha yoga classes too.

This past week I've started to have pee problems. 5min after I go I feel like I need to pee again... fortunately there is a public toilet about 1/2 way along my route. So far the one thing that helps is '"sucking it in" like one long kegal... surely that's got to make up for bring totally slack about doing them otherwise!
  • @TonyaCody06 - I got Gabrialla elastic maternity belt, medium support. I haven't used it yet, though, because every day has been so bitter cold and windy! I haven't ran since Monday! :(
  • I've also heard good things about the Gabriella band. I am thinking of getting one later on but would love to hear a review from any of you ladies who are or are planning to use it!

  • UPDATE: I ran two miles with the band on today. It didn't come with directions on how to wear it, but I think I did it right! I peed before I left, and by 1.5 miles the pressure on my bladder was so intense. By 2 miles, I had to call it quits. When I started walking to cool off, the pressure on my bladder felt relieved, so it must be the impact of running, I suppose. So as far as helping with peeing.... not so much. But it did help my back feel more supported. I still had a backache later that night, though.
