MCAT (nbr)

Obvs.

My sweet husband is taking the MCAT (medical college admissions test) tomorrow! I'm freaking out just a tad. Okay a lot! This exam is just the beginning of stressful medical school applications for us. I haven't even seen my husband in a week because he's been studying his life away. The test is pricey and loooong so...
If you could send good vibes our way we would very much appreciate it! We only wanna do this shin dig once!

Thanks gals.

Ps. Gifs are always appreciated as well. :)

  • Reading this post makes me feel old! It feels like ages since I took the MCAT. It sounds like he's taking it seriously and for that reason it's likely he'll do well. Good luck with this crazy process.

You're not old! But so much has changed. Last year they removed the writing portion and next year they are adding in a psychology portion (which is my husbands major) but I think this is the ideal year to take it. It's the shortest it's ever been. He's been so crazy though. This whole week he's been doing 12-13 hour days at the library (he took off this entire week of work) and I've been at my parents house for 8 days now. I miss him. Anyway, I really hope he does okay. He's taken 8 practice tests this week and he always gets between 30-37. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  • I have no idea why I just babbled so much to you, @psychdoc12! I guess your SN always just reminds me of my husband so I was happy you replied! Haha forgive me.

  • Good luck to both of you! Med school is such a big commitment and achievement for students and their partners. My brother and I were born while my father was in med school and he always credits my mother for their professional success. So I say "congratulations to you both for your hard work" and wish you good luck going forward.

This.. I feel old! It was about 10 years ago for me when I took the test! We are just starting out after almost another 9 yrs of med school and residency(my husband's was 5 yrs long). Your husband will think pre med is the hardest till he gets to med school, then he'll think med school is the hardest till he gets to residency. Just be his solid rock through all the trials and tribulations. They were our toughest and most stressful years but also some of the most fun and rewarding. Medicine will probably be vastly different by the time he starts practice. Does he have a specialty in mind? Best of luck to you guys.

Thank you. :) he doesn't have a specialty in mind because he says it looks silly to show up to medical school thinking you know what you want to do because really you don't know anything! But he has shadowed quite a few doctors and he is interested in oncology and emergency medicine for the most part.

Tell him not to discount psychiatry!

Oh, and just so you know, everyone feels like shit and thinks they failed after this exam. Everyone. He needs to push it out of his mind and distract himself until results come out. And absolutely no googling afterwards to try to figure out if he got answers right.

Read this late but lots of prayers and thoughts for you! I remember when my husband was studying for the LSAT and then the BAR exam. He got a hotel room and locked himself in it for 2 months. When he came out he was so pale and thin I cried!!! I feel your pain!! Good luck to your DH!!!

By the way.. This is nuts! Your poor hubby. That sounds awful.

Holy Shit, 8 practice tests in a week!  Kudos to him!  I know it is super stressful watching your hubby go through this, I barely see my husband and the few hours here and there are so precious.  If his practice tests are within the 30-37 range he is pretty set.  32+ is a good number to feel confident about for the application process.  Is he applying to instate only?  We have 8 schools in our state, and hubby will be applying to each one of them for his best chances.  My hubby is a non trad, so he has to go so far to prove himself worthy of med school at the age of 42.  He's a double mathematics and chemistry major, and is hoping for a 35.  He is doing the Princeton Review, did your hubby use that?  We are lucky that my husband is part of a 3+4 program, so he is guaranteed admission into the Universities partnership med school program (private med school) but we are really hoping for a public U because the current tuition is $41,000 a year!  The state U programs are closer to 22-25K a year.  Good luck to you and your hubby!  :)
