Getting back into shape

Re: Getting back into shape

  • I've been back to all my regular classes at the gym.  I was at the gym 12 hours before my induction so it only took me a few weeks pp to feel back to myself again.

  • @kateva do you pump before you go workout?

@soozerella - I don't usually need to because he nurses around 4:45/5 but I set my alarm for 5:15 so I have time to pump before I go. @thesportsgal - it's a 6am class or bust for me. It's hard to get up for sure but worth it. But after 6+ years of motherhood sleep deprivation becomes nbd. And I could always nap with the baby when the older two are at school but the energy boost I get from working out usually means I don't need to. But you can bet I completely pass out by 9pm every night!
  • The LO and I started mommy and baby yoga. Great way to meet other moms and babies in the area.
  • I was thinking of joining curves. My biggest concern is I'm going back to work next week so I don't want to be gone until 7pm every night. I haven't done the videos. Are any of you STMs and did you find time with work and toddlers to do the videos? I can see myself getting the videos and not doing them... :-(. I'm not sure what I want to do.
  • I have been in the gym 5 days a week for the past two weeks running, doing incline walks and elliptical. ( I have lost 5 lbs yeah!!) I plan on starting weightlifting Monday. As for a meal plan I have always enjoyed weight watchers . It works great for me ! I'll be back to normal in a few months
I wish I could find the time for the gym!! =-)

  • I was cleared for exercise yesterday at my 6 week PP checkup. I plan on getting back into running and doing A LOT of ab work. My stomach is destroyed from the pregnancy and the c-section, but I am determined to get back into my clothes by the time I go back in May! I'm only 5-10 pounds over my usual weight, but everything seems to have shifted. Not sure how/when I will find the time to fit in workouts, but I'm gonna figure it out!

Shakeology to kick start clean eating and p90x, les mills pump and turbofire hybrid For workouts. I'm a beachbody coach and love their programs!

Is shakeology safe for breast feeding?

  • @chillpr. I'm not big into yoga either. But I did meet some really nice ladies. Also it's really cold where I live so it's nice to get out of the house.
  • ....gave birth 25 days ago and I'm already at my pre-pregnancy weight. I know, everyone can hate me, it's all right, I understand.

But, I don't work out, so there's no level of fitness I'm trying to get back to. I do daily walks with LO for 40 min and I EBF.

  • I'm back to running. It totally sucks and doesn't feel the same, but then again I was pretty in shape competitive runner. I ran the Houston Half Marathon last weekend at exactly 9 weeks PP and I thought I was going to die... but I didn't. It was hard but it felt good to be back at it and has inspired me to keep going instead of telling myself to keep taking it easy because I'm tired.

  • I don't know but I was super excited about my first day at the gym this morning.  Got up, BF baby and pumped, got DD1 ready to go since she enjoys the daycare there, and didn't even make it out of the driveway before getting stuck in the damn snow.  Fuck Michigan winters.  Looks like Monday's the day.

Anyways, they have really awesome group classes that I'm going to try.  Spin, 30-minute workout (1 min cardio, 1 min weights for 30 min).  My mom does the kickboxing class but I don't know if that's my thing.
I plan to utilize the pool there since I've always enjoyed water exercise.
And the stair step machine is a brutal, awesome workout.

I also started a food tracker.  I definitely need to work towards a healthier diet not just for my weight but for my health as well.

I'm planning to do Couch 2 5k and starting weight watchers again. I was also a lifetime member before pregnancy and I honestly believe it is the best way to lose weight on the market. Plus they have a plan for BF mamas.

  • I'm back to my prepregnancy weight but it doesn't sit the same as it did before baby. My plan is to continue healthy eating habits, go for walks, and when the weather gets nicer go hiking again. I would like to firm my muscles back up so maybe the gym a couple days a week? I ebf and am really not going to obsess over size/weight because I have worked hard to get over negative body image and don't want to get sucked back into that pit. I know if I'm taking care of my body the rest will take care of itself.

  • I'm at pre pregnancy weight too, but I had gained 10lbs while on our honeymoon before getting pregnant, so I need to lose that weight lol.... We went out east and lived on lobster and seafood covered in butter, followed by numerous alcoholic beverages for two weeks. Apparently not healthy haha.
I'm glad everyone is posting what they do because I am not a fan of exercising but I definitely need to. So I'm getting lots of ideas from you lovely ladies.
    Ps...what is shakeology?

  • I can't say enough wonderful things about Lindsay Brin's DVDs.  They helped me lose the ungodly amount of weight I gained with my first and I'm starting them again now.  I'm doing her postnatal bootcamp right now but she just came out with a new DVD I am planning on getting.  Her website is momsintofitness.com.  I love the bootcamp because it eases you into it.
  • I am starting to use the elliptical and will start to do p90x, couch to 5k as I have time and the opportunity. I signed up for 5k in May. I gained 50 lbs (gestational diabetic), 7 weeks out and I have 15 lbs to go. I go to work in 5 weeks, and like many of you am determined to fit into my clothes before work starts. I attribute the weight loss so far to strict clean eating (paleo/whole 30) and breastfeeding.
  • I'll be 4 weeks pp on Tuesday but will be doing power yoga a few times this week to measure my abilities. I have tons of Jillian Michaels, p90x and a bike trainer that I plan on hitting next. Hopefully, I can make it to my parents (they've always had exercise equipment) and exercise during the day. I plan on running the Race for the Cure with LO in the jogger on Mothers Day... It's our 1 year anniversary and my 1st Mother's Day!
  • Thanks to the GD diet I was on during pregnancy I was 25 pounds under pre-pregnancy weight about a week after delivering.  That said I can barely fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans because I am so damn squishy!  I can't wait to get cleared for exercise in another 3 weeks so I can tone up and hopefully lose a bit more weight.

I worked with a trainer before getting pregnant.  I'm thinking about getting a bosu and kettle bells so I can continue with some of the exercises she showed me.  They really helped to tone me up and define my waist.
  • @chillpr It's an app, but can be done outside or in a treadmill. It tells you what to do (run, walk, sprint) for specific amounts of time and it changes each week, getting progressively harder.

  • Can everyone tell me the times they are able to go to the gym? I am really struggling with that for some reason. I was a diligent gym goer after work 4-5 times a week, all the way up until my due date. I cannot figure out when to get to the gym - so sad, I know. I guess I don't feel like it in the morning after being up all night and am too tired when my husband gets home and I'm not comfortable with her in the nursery yet. Suggestions? Or impossible with the hurdles I just listed?

I am going to try and work out 30-40 min on my lunch break since my work has a gym and then one the weekends when my DH is home
