Growth spurt support thread

Any other ladies going through this right now? I don't remember the one week spurt being as bad as this. For the past two nights up every hour with DD (which is actually only equaling 15 min of sleep at a time because she has gas issues so by the time she's been fed and burped/kept upright for 15 min and put back down she's up again after a few minutes). Then this morning she's pretty much been on the boob from 9 am till 12. Tried everything to give some recovery time, but only thing that would calm her was nursing.
Seriously my boobs are so deflated!!!!
Anyone else joining the support group???

Re: Growth spurt support thread

  • I was really hoping I'd be one of the lucky one day growth spurters. What's helping me get through it is my sister says that her LO got on the semblance of a schedule after his growth spurt as in she knew when she could set him down for five minutes and was able to pump for stash a little more often.

  • I'm here too! To top it all off, he is not gaining like they want him to, so it's feed, give bottle, pump already empty boobs, change diaper, repeat...

  • LO is 2 weeks now, but last week her growth spurt lasted 3 days and I had mastitis at the same time. It was miserable. She would nurse, literally for 3 hours at a time, take a break for an hour and be back at it. All day, all night. Oh, and my family was in town just for those 3 days, so they barely got to see her or hold her. Not looking forward to the 3 week growth spurt.
I hope you can get some rest! It's tough.

  • Started yesterday.  My 89-ounce baby drank 19 ounces in 24 hours, WTF?  And was awake basically all night.

I'll join! We're at the three week mark and he's hungry every 90 minutes or so. I also have to keep him upright after feeds or he spits it all back up. Then, I wait until he is really sleeping before attempting to move him or he screams the second he is away from me. This has been going on for 4-5 days so I'm hoping it's nearing an end.

    This is DD exactly.

  • Just when I thought it was over... Yesterday during most of the day she was back on a schedule but by evening she was back to eating every hour (of course this hit at dinner time) and up eating pretty much non stop from 1230 to 3 am. Anyone else's LO do that to them? Just when you thought it was over it really wasn't? I'm thinking today to bust into the stash supply to give my poor boobs a break.

  • I remember the 3w growth spurt being the worst one with DS1. Hang in there!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that has an hour long nursing ritual. Nurse, burp, nurse, burp, hold upright, calm down, finally lay down for 30 minutes and repeat. Ugh.

Me too! Plus DS is fussy while at the boob so it feels like he's going to yank my nipples right off!

As a voice of encouragement my LO slept for 2 and a half hours twice last night twice!!!! First time ever! Yet somehow I feel more tired today.... My body doesnt know what to do with five hours of sleep I guess!

  • Yupper. I'm so tired. I think she has GERD, so she spits everything back up and it's like she didn't eat 5 mins prior. Holding her upright doesn't help at all. I'm cranky after the 4th time feeding her when I need to sleep. I dread the work week when H needs to sleep and I don't rely on his help.

  • We are 2 weeks today. Usually baby nurses every 2-3 hours but last night I went to bed at 11pm. She woke up to eat at 12:30am and basically nursed until 4:30am. There was a 20 minute stretch from 3:20 til 3:40am that she slept. She was up again at 6:30am and seems to be back on her every 2 hours schedule. I. AM. SO. TIRED. Of course SO fell asleep on the couch at 9:30pm last night. I was mad and left him there. He managed to make it to the bedroom but wasn't much help to me as he slept right through her cries from a foot away. Must be nice.
  • Ugh last night was comfort and nursing ralley! He was latched back and forth from about 8:30-12:30...it was the only thing that would calm him. When he finally actually fell asleep he slept for 4 hrs, woke up to eat, and slept another 4 hrs. I actually feel like I got sleep. Hoping the cluster feed doesn't happen again tonight, but that the sleep does!

  • DD is two weeks and yesterday evening was attached to me for hours and again this morning. The worst part is my H goes back to work tomorrow and it is very difficult entertaining a very active 17 month old while you have someone attached to your boob. Praying I survive tomorrow.
