The organic vs. non milk organic milk post got me thinking about gmo vs. non gmo foods. My brother
is super crunchy and when DS was ready for solids, my brother insisted on planting non-gmo seeds in the garden and made food for DS. As the weather got cold, he began buying my son Earth's Best as it is non- gmo. However, now that DS is eating 'real' foods, its basically impossible to stay away from gmo foods. Just yesterday, my brother had a fit that I was giving my son cheerios b/c they contain gmo's. I didn't know! So my question is- what type of non gmo foods
do you feed your little ones?
Re: Non-GMO foods
We void GMO's by buying from local farmers whom we know and know their farms and the way they farm. We buy from two farms, have been to both and I actually worked on one of them for a while. When we can't buy from them our second choice is at the farmer's market from reputable local farms and our third choice is from the local natural grocer and well-labeled goods. You do the best you can but you can't give yourself a heart attack over it. Stressing out is as bad as eating empty calories!
For some, the jury Is still out on GMOs and for others it is a moot point, they find no issue with GMOs. In my family, we choose to believe the studies that find GMOs questionable or downright bad and therefore we avoid them. However, just like second hand smoke, GMOs are sometimes unavoidable. ::shrug:: like I said, I can't stress about things beyond my control, it isn't healthy
I believe that if you are trying to be healthy and economically and environmentally conscious then local farms are the best places to buy your food. It is sometimes limiting as far as menu variety and it is more work to cook all of my meals instead of buying them pre made, but overall so worth it.
