June 2014 Moms

Very late introduction... Hi

Hello everybody,

I would just like to introduce myself.

So I just found out that I'm pregnant on Thursday and we went in for the anatomy scan today! They calculated that I will be 21 weeks tomorrow with a very healthy looking baby boy. Which puts my due date on June 3rd which is also my husband's birthday! We are very excited and extremely happy that I went to the Dr. because my worst fear is being one of those girls on I didn't know I was pregnant.

I am new at all this and this is my first pregnancy but I wanted to jump in and say hello.

  • Welcome! Congrats on your baby boy
  • I have Crohns disease and many of the symptoms are fairly similar. I took a test back in October but it came up negative so I just forgot about it. My weight never stays steady so I can gain or loose 20+ pounds in about a weeks time.

The only reason I went to the Dr was because I started noticing a hard spot in my stomach about a week ago. Which also has happened before and thought I was going to have to go back on my meds or have surgery to remove it.
  • Welcome! My friend's wife didn't find out she was pregnant until 25 weeks into her pregnancy! So, it can happen even though it sounds crazy. She was really tired and had a lump in her abdomen. She went to the doctor and at first they thought it was a tumor and then the next day they told her she was pregnant.
  • Oh wow! My sister was just diagnosed with Chrons disease after two years of tests and diet changes. I didn't realize chrons and pregnancy shared symptoms.

Congrats on your baby boy! My friends cousin had no idea she was pregnant until she went to the hospital with stomach pains and imagine her shock when the doctors said "you're in labor and you're already dialated". That's so cute your EDD is on your DH's birthday!

  • Not a lot of the symptoms are the same but i'm in remission now and haven't taken any meds in about 2 years. The symptoms I have had are appetite changes, randomly getting nauseous and throwing up, being very very tired(but I also have a b12 deficiency due to previous surgery),stomach issues which kinda feel like your being kicked, and then the lump.

I was already taking prenatals and have a very healthy diet. Thankfully the only thing the dr said I might want to consider changing is stop running once I get a little bigger.
  • @JBC2020 Did you still get your period the last 5 months?

  • That's an incredible story!  Congrats on your healthy baby boy!

I'm sorry you suffer from Crohns, I have several friends with it and it can be really tough.

not in September which is why I took the test but because of how quickly I loose and gain weight its not always very predictable and I tend to go a few months between them. I did have some spotting so I thought everything was normal.
  • @JBC2020 Crazy! Glad to hear everything is going well!

I have alot of vitamin deficiencies and without them my fingernails get really wavy and funny looking
  • Wow!  I bet that was a bit of a shock, but like others said... it is kind of nice to already be half way through the pregnancy and feel like you don't have to wait as long as the rest of us :)  I also just joined the board... welcome!

  • One of the Moms on my first BMB didn't find out she was pregnant until about the same point. She also had GI issues.

  • Congrats! My husband has Crohns. He has flare ups which cause a lot of stomach issues, pain, heartburn, belly swelling. I can see how you could miss the pregnancy.
  • Congrats and welcome! Your story is definitely unique but I sympathize with your Crohn's issues. My sister in law has it too and it can be a really difficult disease. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

  • If it helps, one of my friends was 6.5 months pregnant when she found out. And she gets asked, "HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW?!" alllllll. theeeeeeee. tiiiiiiiiiime. In her case, she was a 22-year-old college student living on booze and Taco Bell and working a lot. Feeling like crap and gaining 10 pounds seemed normal. She was on birth control, so she never expected a period. And one day she had to tell her boyfriend, "By the way, we're having a baby. You probably need to make a decision about whether we're serious or not."

  • Congrats to you and welcome!!

I've heard of this happening on 2 different accounts! My mother was not aware she was pregnant with me until she was well into her 2nd trimester. She was very athletic (running-biking insane mileage per day) and missing her period was a normal thing. I turned out ok- I think? :-/
A more rare case, this girl from my hometown was scheduled to have a gastric bypass (during her last months) and found out the day of her surgery! That must've been a surprised doctor!

It has always been a nightmare of mine to be that girl on the toilet saying "what was that?!" And to see a baby fly out...
  • Wow. Congrats! On a different note, I will now have Bon Jovi stuck in my head all day now. So don't be surprised if I bring them up again lol.
  • I get all the pregnancy symptoms.  I dream about being the girl who didn't know she was pregnant until she pooped out a kid :).  Welcome!  I also understand that with Crohn's, you were having symptoms, just thought they were one thing and not the other.

  • I didn't know till nearly my second tri with Lincoln. I had  no symptoms of pregnancy. We went in there expecting to see a kidney bean and he was waving his fully formed hand!

  • My DH has crohns too and I can see how it could be missed with the symptoms. Welcome!

NO. DO NOT WANT. I think having a kid suddenly without knowing would be pretty traumatic. 9 months barely feels like enough time to prepare myself mentally and emotionally.
