I teach 3rd grade, so all subjects. It's been a tough year with some behavior kiddos. I was really hoping I'd be on maternity leave this school year...but that didn't work. I'll take next year though! I'm really excited about the timing of this baby as I'll be able to start the school year but miss October conferences (which I hate)!! My 3rd graders are pretty oblivious so I'll be interested to see if they pick up on any clues.
I teach 6th grade math. I had my son at 32 weeks gestation the Friday before school started this year and just returned to work. I'm hoping to not go back next year. I'm pretty sure my principal is going to be just thrilled to hear about another maternity leave from me if I do go back.
I teach 7th grade math and science. This is my first, so I am not sure how this is all going to work out. I know that I have to go back to work because we will need both of our paychecks. I do have short term disability that would pay $1000 a month (Do they tax that?). We are not allowed to have a union, so we have to find out everything for ourselves. I have a lot of questions to start asking once we go public.
I too am afraid of how long I can hide it. My teammate knows and another teacher that has been on the TTGP journey too. Now that I carry water instead of Mtn. Dew and have to pee constantly, I am wondering when people will notice. (Not to mention I am so bloated I had to get my wedding band cut off!)
I am due September 6. School is scheduled to start September 2. I am hoping the baby decides to come a little early so I won't be at school for just a week. But I guess time will tell.
I'm a school interventionist for an elementary school. So I handle all academic and behavioral interventions. My state pretty much nixed school counselors at the elementary level so since my masters is in counseling and I want to be in the schools here I am!
This is my 8th year as a high school Global Studies and AP World History teacher at a Catholic school. We get 6 weeks paid which feels like NOTHING, and I don't have the option to take a year and have them hold my job until 10 years, so it's not an option yet. Sigh.

6 weeks sounds like an eternity! We get 20 days (so 4 work weeks) plus any of our accumulated sick leave. My friend that is pregnant with her second used up all of her sick leave with her first child and then never accumulated anymore because of being out when her DD is sick. No matter what, I know that none of us will be ready to go back when it is time.
I am an Oral/Aural teacher of the deaf. Over the past seven years I have worked with kids as young as 3 and kids as old as 12th grade. This year I run an Early Intervention group twice a week, and twice a week I work with a 1st grader and 3rd grader.

Four weeks!? Oh my goodness. That's no time at all!
@Songbird2- I am also an elementary music teacher who teaches private lessons at home! I plan to apply for a year leave of absence from school but continue with the lessons after the baby is born.
6th grade math here...already wondering about next year.
The woman who teaches next door to me looked at me today and said "you've been quiet lately and you look different. Are you pregnant?" Something tells me coworkers are already wondering!!
Major pet peeve! I don't think anyone should ever ask if a woman is pregnant. Grrrr.

I know!! It stinks! During that 4 weeks they take out sub pay too! I do have money taken out of my check each month to pay for short term disability, but it would only be $1000 a month. That is better than nothing though! While I am using my 20 days or any sick leave I have, I am still responsible for lesson plans. They don't pay us enough! (Our state is 48th in nation for teacher pay.)
I am an elementary principal. I will see my teachers through in-service week and then have about 3-4 weeks of school before maternity leave. My hope is to be back by November 1st.
I'm so glad to have found this post! I teach kindergarten. It's going to be really awkward going back mid August until mid September! I'm going to have to make some decisions I guess.
You guys are lucky! My district has "parental leave" which means I can take up to a year off and keep my position. If I want to get paid time, I have to use my sick leave. I only have 80 hours right now and if I can keep this bun in the oven for long enough to start the school year, I will get an additional 60 hours. So I will only be able to take about a month off with pay. I guess I will have to work summer school just to be able to afford to pay my mortgage for the extra month I would like to take off.
I teach 12th grade English at a small private school here in Denver.
I won't be going back in the fall, as long as we can work that out financially.
My students haven't yet noticed (after a week) that I've been off coffee. They are pretty observant normally, so I'm a bit worried for when they will notice.
This is my first pregnancy, so I'm nervous about people finding out. I have been feeling really well so far, just fatigued and moody.

Agreed! I've been asked monthly by a coworker and my own mother who knew that we wanted to add to our family "someday." I respond, "when I have news to share, I'll share it!" I got a little more snippy with my mom I'm afraid, and told her that I had a cute idea for a way to tell her when the time presented itself, but she was going to ruin it by asking. She hasn't asked since.
6th grade teacher at an Arts Magnet Elementary School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is my first year so I'm still on probation (won't be tenured for 2 more contract years). Due September 7, not sure what I'm going to do next year! I heard if I don't have enough student contact days, I lose ALL my previous seniority. I have no idea who to even talk to at my school (I don't want to tell anyone about the pregnancy until at least 12 weeks). A little confused but I feel extremely blessed to be carrying this baby!
