Lurker question: where does baby sleep?

I want the baby to be by the bed in my room for a bit. With DD#1 we had a bassinet and I can't say I liked it. For this baby I wanted a RnP, but have heard so many mixed reviews about having the baby sleep overnight in it. Plus, another thing to take into account is we have a tall king bed and I don't want to get out every time id need to pickup the baby.

So, what are you using? Do you recommend it? Thanks :)

Re: Lurker question: where does baby sleep?

  • We use a small pack and play bassinet in front of our bed.
  • Loading the player...
  • Crib in nursery. I have a monitor on my nightstand and she is fine.

  • RNP by our bed or in our bed.
  • We used a RNP at first but at 6 weeks now she sleeps in her crib.
  • Thanks for the responses ladies!

@Chillpr - I will search for it, thanks for the suggestion.

@KateMW - don't feel bad, there's nothing wrong with putting your baby in the crib, I just want mine in the room with me (personal preference obviously). I just hope your baby's crib isn't as cold as you say.

The baby sleeps alone in his cold hard crib with nothing in it all the way in his room.

    It's fab.

    Exactly this.
  • LOL OP, don't worry he's fine.

My one piece of advice is not to be so wedded to one idea to the detriment of your sleep and sanity. Some babies are not good co-sleepers, some make so much noise you can't sleep, etc.
  • LO sleeps in a bassinet by the bed. If she's extra fussy when DH feeds her in the MOTN he'll put her in the RnP. We're planning to transition her to the crib in her room in a month or two.

  • I know you! Congrats on #2!

We tried the bassinet the first time, and it was not good, but DS1 was a bad sleeper. This time, we got the Arm's Reach co-sleeper, and I love it! It's so nice to be able to just look over and see if he's awake and fussing or just sleep grunting. Also, we have a tall queen size bed, so we had to get the leg extensions for it, but they work just fine.

  • Another who has her DD sleep in her crib in her room. I have a baby monitor so I can listen/watch her and it is great.

  • We try to start him in his crib but not much success yet. After his first waking I bring him into bed to nurse. He spends the rest of the night either in the arms reach co sleeper or in my bed. He's a noisy baby but I still get more sleep with him next to me. I too am a lazy breast feeder and like to sleep through our night sessions
  • In the co sleeper. She was actually fine in the RNP but our bed is so high I was having a hard time dragging myself in and out of bed to rock her or pull her out to eat. Now I can just look over and make sure she's ok, and plop her in bed to eat - another lazy breast feeder here, I just lay her by my side and plop her back into the co sleeper when done.
  • Mine has been in the crib since four weeks. He's so loud and we all sleep better since he's been evicted. :)

  • A mixture of in the RnP or PnP, both in our room for now. In another month or so we'll try transitioning her to her crib.

  • RNP usually. In bed with me if she is having a hard night.

  • Our plan was the crib right away, but for now it really is easier for us to have her in our room. We use the Tiny Love Rocker Napper. I liked it more than the rock n play for sleeping. I use a nest noggin in it, after reading about babies having problems with sleeping in the rock n play and having flat heads.
