Any Maryland homeschoolers? — The Bump

Any Maryland homeschoolers?

I live in MD and want to start homeschooling my kids this Fall.  I have no idea where to start or what to do.  Totally clueless.  Any direction would be appreciated. THanks so much!

Re: Any Maryland homeschoolers?

  • I'm also a Christian and want to use a Christian-based curriculum.  Please help.  Feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start or what to do!
  • You received some good advice in the other thread you started. I am going to hope that you have already googled (or called your state department of education), which would give you this information. (Here is a different site with the information you are searching for. BTW, google is your friend. I found that in less time than it took me to type it.)

It appears there is a form you need to fill out and certain subjects you are required to teach.

Choosing curriculum can be very overwhelming. It might help us to know what the ages of your LOs are. It may also help us to know some of your beliefs/philosophies of education. Does unschooling sound like a good fit for your family? (It's not for us.) Do you want a completely prepared curriculum? (I don't.)

As for Christian curriculum, Sonlight seems to be a popular option.

Finally, you can edit your posts. You need to hover your cursor over the top right corner of it, and an edit option will pop up.

  • Since you're a Christian, I think your best bet would be to contact your local Christian Homeschoolers Alliance and see which churches in your area offer the umbrella option (if yours doesn't).  Your local homeschooling moms can also help you learn how in detail you need to get with your portfolio of work.  They may also be able to recommend curricula that will fulfill all of the required subjects.

I can't remember if you said in the other post how old your kids are.  Are they young?
  • Not sure where in 'Maryland you are, but there is a conference in Frederick in April.
