GTKY: Valentines Edition

It is a little early, but what are your V-Day plans? What are you getting DH? Your kids? What are you hoping to get?

DH works on Valentines and won't be back until a few days after so I'm thinking I will plan a mini-vacation at a fancy hotel on the Riverwalk the weekend after Valentines Day.

As for a present for DH, I'm not sure. This local photography studio is doing a $19 special on Boudoir/pin up style photos. They do your hair and make up. I was thinking that would be fun! What do you ladies think?

DS1 gets candy every year, but this year he asked for beef jerky! lol LO will get a book for the baby library.

As for me, I just got a new car for Christmas, and we are house hunting so I will be asking for nothing. Well, maybe chocolate!

Getting DH some new workout shorts and he is getting me new workout tights! Yay! And I better get some chocolate, so I have reason to use said capris (as if all the existing goo isn't reason enough).

We get dd1 chocolate and flowers every year too, sometimes a stuffed animal to go with it.

We always stay home for Valentine's because restaurants just jack up prices. Dh makes dinner and we'd spend the night in bed.

With ds this year, we'll probably do about the same thing. We get each other a card but we don't spend money on gifts.

DH will get me an amazing card. I love his cards he always takes forever to pick out the perfect one. As far as the rest, no clue.

H's Aunt and Uncle offered to come to our house and watch DS for us so we could go out. H has also been asking for a new video game for the Wii (golf game) so I may go get that for him. He usually gets me candy and flowers. Last year I got that along with some earrings oh and DS. We found out I was pregnant Valentine's weekend after we got back to town for a mini vacation.

Probably something low key. We will exchange cards but money is tight so no elaborate gifts. And besides, I'm dairy free so I can't even eat chocolates. ;-( I will probably do a hand or footprint gift for DH from the kids but I'm not sure what we are going to give them.

We also don't go out on valentines day because everything is overcrowded and overpriced. However, we got engaged on February 17th so we usually do something then. We discussed that going forward, valentines day will be for dd and we will keep Feb 17th as our day. I can't wait to do crafts with dd or to spend the day baking.

No idea what we're doing this year.

Eta: for our 1 year anniversary I got my husband a shutter fly book of our first year. For v-day I want to make dh a book of our last 4 years and then another one of our journey to dd. All different chapters.

We are pretty low key about it. I normally get flowers (not roses though) and a card. This year LO has his 4 month appt that day meaning next round of shots, so we aren't making plans in case he's fussy. Probably just takeout and a movie, something relaxing.

DH wants to take me to Disneyland. I wasn't really planning on doing anything special for him, just making reservations at the all you can eat BBQ restaurant at Disneyland, which I know he'll love.

Last year was very low-key. He picked me up from work for lunch, and we sat in the car and ate fried chicken. I gave him a balloon bouquet, he wrote me an amazing card.

Our second wedding anniversary is February 12th, but I have no idea what we'll be doing. Neither one of us particularly like Valentine's Day, so we've never celebrated it beyond hitting up the stores for heavily-discounted chocolate on the 15th.

Oh lawdy, it's valentines again? I used to love vday until I got the most unromantic boyfriend turned husband ever. Now I just try not to cry on vday, since our first 4 or 5 vdays together I was a bawling mess because he didn't try.

I'm generally a very low maintenance person, but I think one day a year, I should be spoiled, not spend it eating a heart shaped pizza he got for free from work, at his parents house.

Half-Priced Chocolate Day is the best!

I'm thinking of buying a box of kids valentine's cards, if I can think of something cute to do with them. Maybe write cute little messages on them and hide them around the house for DH to find. Mostly because they're awesome and I want an excuse to buy them.

Last year was my first time actually celebrating, and as I've already mentioned, we ate fried chicken in the car on my lunch break. I already told DH that I didn't expect anything from him, and really don't, but he is still making plans. My dad passed away on V-day a few years ago, so it's a bittersweet day for me, and I'm honestly okay with just exchanging cards or something. And the half priced chocolate the next day. #musthaveallthechocolates

I have to admit I love the boxes of little kids valentine's cards too! Glad I'm not the only one!

We got our BFP on Valentine's Day last year, which was the best present ever. We will probably just stay in and cook a nice dinner, watch a movie and hang out with the best gift ever... our baby girl! We don't usually go out either because every restaurant is crazy busy.

Planning on getting a nice engraved gift for DH from DD.

We are not giving each other gifts. Instead we are putting money away to save for a return trip to Hawaii on our 10th anniversary. We went there for our honeymoon and it was so awesome that we want to go back. DH loved it so much, and he's not the travelling type. It left a pretty big impression on him and I'm so happy it did!

I love V-day but DH has gone so above and beyond in the past its hard for him to top himself. I disagree that restaurants change their prices on Valentines day, actually I feel like the really nice places offer a lot of 3-course specials. But I will agree that they are over crowded and that could lead to crappier service.

As for this year, I don't see it being over-the-top. We are really lacking in the child care dept so It will unfortunately most likely be spent at home. Its a shame too because I love fancy hotel rooms.

Not a fan of this holiday. We exchange cards and he normally gets me roses. Always red and more because my hero, my Grandfather, adored roses and passed that love on to me. It's the only thing that makes the holiday tolerable to me.

We usually don't make a fuss about Valentines either (cards and maybe candy). We mostly do it for our oldest kiddo and now for LO. I felt like the night at the hotel would be a good get away because he works 6 days gone 3 days home and we don't do a lot of couple stuff on his days off because he likes to spend it with the kids. Right now he is at a CDL training that will take 2 weeks. Then he leaves the day after he gets home for a 6 day rotation. We will definitely need some romantic time after all that apart time, but I'm still not ready to leave LO overnight and taking him with us defeats the purpose.

Meh. We've never really gotten into the Hallmark holidays. Plus, our anniversary is 2/19, so we usually just skip V-Day and celebrate that instead. Last year, I was in Florida for work. This year, who knows.

LO's daycare is exchanging valentines and having a party, so I'll probably give DH one of those. If I slip him a Star Wars valentine with Yoda saying, "The Very Most, I Like You," I would probably make his day.

Last year Valentines Day was the best and worst day all in one. I didn't get a position I so badly wanted at work, DH and I were fighting(he left on a trip on VDay), but then I found out I was pregnant!!! This year DH will actually be home and I will not be pregnant. Hopefully we can get a sitter and go out for supper.

I'm not sure what we will do. We weren't that big into Valentines Day, but last year we had an ultrasound on Valentines and and went in thinking we were going to get bad news after all my bleeding but instead saw a beautiful little heart beat. It's probably going to be a big deal from now on

We don't get each other anything big and crazy. I'm thinking of ordering him some amazing BBQ sauce from his favorite BBQ place when we lived in Alabama. I better call soon so they can ship it...mental note made.
For dinner I always make something special and then some kind of heart shaped dessert. One year I made brownies and last year was chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, yum!

We will cook at home. I am hoping DH gets me an initial Alex and Ani bracelet for LO3. I have one for each of the two oldest. Then he usually gets gifts for the girls as well, something small.

We never have done anything huge but do like to acknowledge the day.

We aren't big Valentine's people, plus I'm in duty (long day), PLUS my brother is visiting from overseas so I'm guessing we will do a romantic take out for the four of us. Lol.

I hate Valentine's Day, so we don't celebrate it. Makes life so much easier and DH was pleasantly surprised when he found out I have no need for flowers that die or chocolate (not a huge sweets fan over here). I think that may be why married me.

I'm soooooooo with you!!!! DH is the sweetest man on the planet, but he sucks ass in the romance dept. After 7 years of being disappointed on V Day bc I have to tell him and drop hints about red roses (so cliche, but I love them) I've resorted to buying myself a giant box of Godiva chocolates and calling it a day! #sorrynotsorry

We will then each choose a chocolate and share them together every night until they're gone. This year I'm thinking of trying something different. Has anyone tried See's? Are they better? Any other options?

We normally just do a low key dinner at home and exchange cards or small gifts. The one time we went out to dinner our reservation ended up being "lost" and we waited an hour for a table.

I much prefer a candlelit dinner at home to going out on valentine's day.

We never do much for Valentine's Day because it's the 14th, my bday is the 19th and our anniversary is the 28th. We can't get too many child free nights, so we usually chose our anniversary as our night (or weekend) to do out. We do usually exchange cards and maybe candy for Valentine's Day. I'm more excited this year because it's my DD's first year in school and exchanging valentines with classmates. I'm looking forward to helping her make something cute. DH and I always get a bunch of candy and treats for DD for Valentine's Day too. We'll get a new toy or something for DS too.

I just realized this week that Valentine's day was approaching when I saw all the cards in the store when I was picking up cold medicine. I have no idea what we are going to do. We usually like to do something, but we have no child care. It's kinda making me sad.

Last Valentines day is when we found out LO was on the way, so that was extra special! We usually dont spend money on gifts, besides a card and I usually get flowers. DH loves my homemade cards so will do that again. We have reservations at a nice restaurant/wine bar so will just spends the evening together then come home to snuggle with our little love!

My bday is the day before... i asked for a double jogger lol i think i will do a hand print thing for him. He has one from dds first valentines day. We usually order dinner to go from some where and eat at home bc its crazy to go out. Ds will probably get a little toy. Dd will get a chocolate rose, my dad always got me one, and probably a book

We mutually agreed years ago that we would never go out on valentines day. Last year we got a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's and a positive pregnancy test! This year he's getting a mousepad with Tilly on it and a card.... We are buying a new pick up soon so the budget for v-day is pretty low.

@scamberlous3000 have you ever heard of Garrisons Confections? Ive met the chocolatier, he is amazing! They ship everywhere and will cost you more but these truffles are like nothing you've ever had. I'm such a foodie and love his crazy flavor combos.
