  Why not just get an exersaucer or jumparoo? They don't move so won't scratch your floors. I have no idea about walkers, they aren't very common anymore and we didn't use one.

  I had my carpets cleaned recently and the report  listed stains that could not be removed. There was a section for color, and we laughed b/c it said ROYGBIV. We have every color of the rainbow on our carpets thanks to my daughter and her art obsessions. Meaning = I want wood floors very badly.

  I have heard that walkers are not the greatest for babies.  It teaches them to walk on their toes and causes more problems for them when they try to walk on their own.

  I glued felt onto the wheels. It worked with my two older boys and my floors were safe than. Now 10 years later I don't even notice when they skateboard inside!

  I have wood floors and it never caused an issue at all. Not sure if the baby is heavy enough to really scratch it up in the walker but I suppose it would depend on your floors. Eta: I also have stairs. Gah!!!!! I just do the smart parent thing and, you know, close the doors!!

  This. I know you weren't asking for opinions on the use of walkers but I've read that they really aren't recommended.

  I second what @disneyaddict1 said. It's like anything else. If they are in it non-stop you may have an issue as a result. If you watch a lot of babies walk, they do so on their toes anyway while they learn proper balance. But as with everything, it's whatever you are comfortable with.

  Could you put some area rugs down?   You might want to do that anyway for when the baby starts crawling, so maybe you could put a big area rug in one room and keep the walker in that room?

  Our wood floors were refinished right before we moved into our house, and we have 5 dogs that have done surprisingly little damage to the floors.  So maybe a walker won't do anything to the floor.
