Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Foods

Hey ladies! My little one just turned 1 on the 20th. We have given her deli meat like ham and turkey, and chicken nuggets and pasta. I was wondering what are some other good, small finger foods I could give her, it seems as if she is getting bored with these. Also if any one has any recommendations for toddler formulaor did you skip this and just go straight to milk? TIA!

Re: Foods

  • We transitioned to WCM shortly after LO turned one.  He wasn't a big fan at first so we mixed it for awhile until he got a taste for it.

As for foods, we just give LO whatever we're eating.  We modified some things when we was littler but, at 19 months, he's eating exactly what we're eating now.

  • I also transitioned DS to WCM soon after he turned 1. He was never on formula, however.  He was/is still nursing so I only started him on 2oz of WCM initially, then gradually worked the amount up.

DS eats whatever we are eating, mostly.  I'd be careful with too much deli meat as they are very salty and many has preservatives.  Meat-wise, DS likes poached chicken breasts, homemade burgers, pulled pork etc.  Other sources of protein can come in forms of eggs (scrambled, or omelette/frittata), beans, firm tofu.  All those foods are easy to self-feed.  For b'fast, DS gets fresh fruits - I cut them in small cubes and he picks them up either with his hand or his fork.

I usually save a small amount of dinner and serve that for lunch the next day.

  • Pretty much anything we are eating.  Cut up fruit, steamed veggies, rice, beans, shredded cheese, yogurt, homemade muffins, meatballs, cut up turkey or black bean burgers, shredded chicken or pork, sliced olives, waffles, sweet potato fries, steamed potato chunks, oatmeal.
