@Pokedot I am sorry to hear about your grandma.  I hope she feels at peace.
Thank you. It's been a tough couple of months for our whole family. At this point we're all exhausted and so is she. It's never easy saying someone should let go but her finding peace is exactly what she needs. She's seen her priest (very religious) and I think she's come to terms with what's happening. It's so hard seeing her in this state. Wednesday all she was saying was "help, help, help". It broke my heart.
@Pokedot I am so very sorry!  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers!  I'm here if you need to vent!

  • I have a lunch interview today at a popular lunching restaurant.  I am secretly hoping my boss sees me and it makes him pull  his head out of his ass!

IDK, I mean no disrespect to you or anyone, but as I learned from my last job - we are all replacable. If an employer doesn't treat you well, the thought of losing you to a different company isn't going to change a thing. They might have to replace you with someone who doesn't do the job as well as you, but if they don't care enough to treat you well, they don't care enough about who they replace you with either.

I hope the interview goes well.

    Thanks?

I get it and I totally understand what you guys are saying, but honestly, I know I am needed.  I do something for my company that nobody else knows how to do and my boss knows it.  He has blocked other people in the company from even interviewing me for positions they wanted me for.  I guess I am hoping that he will realize that while he can block inside positions, he can't block outside positions.

And while I have been perusing job listings, this is not one I sought out.  They called me and talked to me and asked me to interview, so I can honestly tell him that I wasn't looking for this opportunity.

@MarisaKathleen Doctor Who definitely made him more attractive to me. Also, I'm a sucker for accents. He's a voice on Tree Fu Tom (Sprout channel), and I love hearing his Scottish accent.

I went through a big Elvis phase. I still like Elvis, but not to the same extreme. You would think he was still alive by the looks of my college apt bedroom. I collected a lot of stuff in that time. Basically, I should have been a teen/young adult in the 50s.

My gut says no but I'm willing to try them.

candy cane and candy corn ones were nasty. I dont' like birthday cake ones either.

but then there's the mint ones and OMG those are amazing like Thin Mints.

My fav combo is mint/chocolate but I've never tried the mint Oreo. How did I miss those? Also almost anything cookie dough is amazing. I'd give these a try, except I'm wearing maternity pants today (see FFFC) and I'm not pregnant, so it won't be any time soon. ;(

  • Thanks everyone for the support. I just got a call from my mom and she's fading fast. We don't think she'll make it the weekend. I'm going to see her on my lunch today. Here's hoping I get to say goodbye.

I only ever see the mint ones in the spring. I want to try the chocolate chip cookie dough oreos but I prefer it in my ice cream... or straight out of the bowl.

I didn't until I watched the show.  He's fighting fat val kilmer for my #1 spot, and I love val kilmer.

I can't join in on the oreo talk because I never buy them.  If I eat them, they have to be in a bowl of milk.  But I prefer those keebler m&m cookies in a bowl of milk.  mmmmm

B is in 7's and quickly growing out of those. He has velcro & lace up but the lace up are for dress shoes. Everything else is velcro. He actually keeps them on in the car but when he's going to daycare or my mom's he wears no shoes at all. Too much of a PITA when he's not going to be walking outside.

    My FFFC's:

I'm wearing maternity jeans today. I can fit in prepreg jeans but I've got this pooch that's driving me nuts! The maternity jeans smooth it out rather than cut it in half like the other jeans I have. Besides they make my ass look fantastic. More motivation for me to not eat all the things.

My grandma has been on a roller coaster ride since being diagnosed with bone cancer in September. Right now we're at the bottom. She's in so much pain she can't even function and weighs a mere 80 lbs. She's 86 years old. I just wish she would go. I hate seeing her like this and it's no way to live.

I'm sorry @Pokedot. That sucks for your grandma and all of you who love her.

A mix of being direct and passive aggressive is most effective?

I'm curious why you think being passive aggressive is effective, and why you consider this appropriate behavior for the workplace.

I'm guessing it's more a mix of assertiveness and playing politics.

  • It has been so cold and snowy here lately that I buckled both kids into their car seats with coats the other day. Then, realizing I do care about car seat safety too much to keep doing this, I went back to removing the coats, cursing winter the entire time. I might be a more pleasant person if I just leave the coats on.

this reminds me of that episode of Friends where Rachel has the interview and her boss from Ralph Lauren sits behind her at the next table so she pretends to be on a date instead.  She doesn't get the job and gets fired.

This is the 4th friends reference I have made in conversations today and it's only 10:30am
I thought of that this morning.  Thankfully, my boss doesn't have to know it is an interview, because its an insurance guy and I could easily be talking to him about my insurance needs instead of a job.

Like I said, I understand what you guys are saying, and I understand that the thought of "hoping" he sees me is passive aggressive.  Its not like I put it on my calendar and have done everything in my power to make sure he knows I am going without actually telling him.  It just so happens that the interviewer I am meeting chose a restaurant that is popular here.  I am sure people could think up a million reasons why I am dressed nicely and going to a popular lunch restaurant with a guy.

I would love for my boss to pull his head out of his ass and have asked for it in a much nicer way, but unfortunately I work for a guy who believes in the "ol' boys club" and as I have mentioned extensively has done plenty to prove that he doesn't care a whole lot about me in particular.  It's cool, I really do get it, and I understand.

  • I'm really annoyed at the lack of technology in our house right now. We're not big TV people, but we do watch Amazon Prime, so it would be nice to watch it on a screen larger than our laptop. Also, I want to be able to do 30DS without getting a mini screen involved to watch the moves. But even though we went to look at TVs last night, and they have interest-free financing and we have FSA money coming to us any day, DH is all "let's take our time, research some more and wait until we have the money in hand before we make any decisions."

I have a broken treadmill, no gym membership, it's freezing ass cold outside and I just want to work out. Easy for him to drag his feet on it. I could have punched him this morning.

A mix of being direct and passive aggressive is most effective?

I'm curious why you think being passive aggressive is effective, and why you consider this appropriate behavior for the workplace.

Hmm.... I think I misspoke.  Upon further thinking I think a mix of being direct and passive is the most effective, and I was under the impression we were talking about life, marriage, work, etc.

I don't think that 'passive aggressive' behavior is appropriate for the workplace, so I think we agree there.  I don't think negative aggression belongs in the workplace, and that goes for both direct and passive.

But I'll eat my words a little here, because I did say a mix of both (meaning direct and PA), because it all really depends what someone considers PA.  What I consider PA?  It doesn't have a place anywhere.  If you consider that hoping your boss sees you at an interview to be passive aggressive, then I disagree that it is PA.

I will agree that if something needs addressed, being direct is always better than PA.  I guess where we might disagree is that being absolutely direct all the time is advantageous.  I think sometimes you have to shut your trap.  Collective you.

FWIW, I think you are probably good at speaking up when appropriate.  And while I have some PA tendencies in my personal life, I am very direct at work, but know when to step back and observe (aka shut my trap).
