I am hoping for until at least 6months any time after that I will be okay with stopping and giving fresh fruit and veggie smoothies and whole goats milk.

Negative; babies are not supposed to have any milk but breast milk before the age of one. Also fruit and veggies are awesome but you probably won't be replacing any bottles with solids until LO is closer to one.

edit: I should say it is not recommended for babies to have cow's or goat's milk before the age of one. By experts. Lots and lots of experts.

I was making all DD food by 5 months. It was great I really feel like that's why she has NEVER been a picky eater. She was able to experience real flavors of food and not bland ol' jar food. By the end of her 6th month she wouldn't eat anything but finger foods. I know some people who never gave anything but formula to their children until they were 1. By 1 she was eating with a fork and spoon and drinking out of a "big girl" cup.
I definately agree that while breast milk/ formula is healthy for babies so is giving them real food as long as properly planned menus are being used. And my pediatrician agreed.
Never thought of goats milk. We do whole milk or almond milk.

I really want to BF for the first 3 months, then pump when I go back to work after maternity leave. I'll pump for as long as I have a supply going, hopefully over a year.

My baby made a very specific noise to indicate he wanted to nurse from the time he was a tiny infant. AKA, long before it would've been reasonable to wean. So, he was technically asking for it for a long time, lol! I felt the same way as you until I actually started nursing. I quit at 19 months for medical reasons but this time I will allow my baby to self-wean.

I BFed DD until she self weaned at 13 months old. I offered but she refused and our nursing sessions just dwindled. Honestly, I was relieved that she took the lead on that one.

I breastfed my son until he self weaned at about 8 months old ( I was forced to leave him with sitters a lot while at the hospital with my mom so he got used to the bottle) I am hoping to go for a full year this time while I am off on maternity leave.

DD self weaned at 12 months. Ideally, I would like to bf for two years but we'll see how this lo feels about it. I will let her decide when to wean.

I BFed DD until 22 months. She wasn't allowed to BF until 8 weeks due to a rare condition (she was unable to digest the fat in breast milk or regular formula). We had quite a struggle after that but after a few months it was great.

I am really excited to BF this one hopefully from day one.

Yeah, I hope it's clear that I'm being sarcastic. Although, on my BMB for my 9 yo there WERE moms that fed pizza and fried chicken to their 6 month olds and thought it was so
cute and posted pictures.

I never replaced any bottles she still had formula until she was 12 months. But was having 3 meals a day by 7 months. It all started with some puffs at 6 months and she wouldn't eat the puree she's always been independent so it really didn't surprise me at all. Heck, she was also a full on runner / walker by 8 1/2 months.
We did whole milk and almond milk at 12 months like normal recommendations suggest.
Ps any child drinking Hawaiian punch makes me ill

we only offer juice on special occasions (ie birthdays, holidays) otherwise it's water and milk.

I'll be working from home, so I'm shooting for something in the 1-2 year mark, although just from witnessing my friends' experiences, it seems like most people end up doing more like 6-12 months or less.

I knew one mom that was still BFing her 5.5 year old, which frankly I personally find to be too much.

I had severely inverted nipples and DS had latch issues because of my struggle. Plus he was born a bit early. I was too stubborn to give up, so I wound up EPing for a year. I'm hoping with this LO I can BF at least a year. I know I can produce, it's just getting the baby on there.

As a FTM I'm just really hoping that I'm able to BF. It will be great if I can do it a year, but anything is better than nothing, so I will do it as long as I can. @Luna C BFing a 5 1/2 yo seems inconvenient, not to mention uncomfortable. Wasn't that child already in school? I assume it wasn't all the time?

13 months with DS. As soon as he was one, I started WCM and began dropping a BF session every 4ish days. I didn't have any engorgement and he didn't ask to BF one time other than when I offered. It was easy to wean him at this age. It would be amazing if it was that way again with 2.0

It wasn't his only source of food, obviously, but it was pretty frequent. Numberous times a day at least.

They were just starting to home school. Which, considering he could barely speak despite having tested as not having any developmental delays ... I don't think the parents really interacted with him much.

There were a lot of issues in that family. Like... a lot.

Ideally I would love to breast feed/pump as long as baby needs. I've heard amazing things about how the longer the child has breast milk, the healthier and smarter it will be. But that's just my ideal world. In reality, I will he happy if we can make it to 12 months.

I did it for 12 months with DD #1, 6 months with #2 because she had several teeth and kept biting me and making me bleed and then she wouldn't nurse when I tried to protect myself with nipple shields, then 7 1/2 months with #3. He was really slow at eating and difficult to nurse, but was a champ with solids. This baby I will see how it goes. My goal is at least 6 months, but will probably go longer because I won't want to quit during cold/flu/rsv season and leave the little one without my immunities.

Before DS was born, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of extended BFing, so I hoped to be able to BF for 6-12 months, then call it quits. I'm not going to lie, the first few months were tough, but once we made it past that we both really enjoyed it. So we just kept going. After 14 months, he was only nursing 2x a day (wake up/before bed), but we kept that up until 21 months, when he eventually lost interest and self weaned. I'm hoping to do the same with this little one.

With our son, I had a bit of difficulty breastfeeding initially so ended up exclusively pumping for 9 months or so. With this one, I'll try breastfeeding again...my goal right now, especially if I end up pumping again, is six months.

I dont produce. I dont get engorged, I never have any pain. Last time when I pumped, I got about 1/4 ounce from each breast and was having to supplement to feed my 12# baby. I eventually gave up. This time, I'll probably not even try. I'm not sure yet.

On another note, I dont give my kids baby food. When they start trying to swipe from my plate around 6-8 months I just give them a portion of what we're having. Mashed potatoes, fork smashed peas, cooked carrots... of course it's all small enough for them, but we dont do puree. I also give them utensils. I dont care if they chew on the spoon as long as they're learning to hold it. Ry swiped a pizza crust off of my plate when he was six months old. I let him gum it. That was his first solid food and he loved it.

You're going to think I'm absolutely nuts, then. My DS turns 3 in early march and he's still nursing. I plan to continue nursing until one of us doesn't want to anymore (ie. until he self-weans or if I decide that tandem nursing isn't working for us).

I nursed DS for 10 months then he stopped on his own but after learning sign he was asking for it - so maybe around 8 months. I hope to nurse this baby just as long if not longer - it just depends .

I have to go back to working full time and they're 12 hr shifts, so it'll depend on how pumping works out while I'm there, but my goal is a minimum of 4 months

Given that a newborn can ask for it...

I BFed by first until 23 months and my second until 36 months.

ETA: This baby I plan to nurse until at least 2 but hopefully longer. And after reading the whole thread...y'all do realize that nursing a toddler is not like nursing a newborn, right? And that your breastmilk changes as baby ages to meet his/her nutritional needs.

Also for FTM - it is VERY rare to not be able to breastfeed. It is true that many women will have trouble at first - sometimes seeming like they don't have enough milk. But 99% of problems are fixable with the right support. It's not always an easy first few weeks so it's not something you can just "give a go and see" - you've got to educate yourself about what's normal and get help if there are troubles in order to make it work (if BFing is something you would like to do)!

I didn't nurse my first dd because i was 16 and my mindset was boobs are for boyfriends not babies. Childish I know. With my ds I couldn't nurse because he was in the Nicu so I pumped. By the time he got out he wouldn't latch. So I made it 6 weeks. My life revolved around a pump. If I wasn't pumping I was feeding him and I felt like my dd was being ignored. I nursed dd2 for 9 months. I chose to stop because she started getting teeth however I wish I would've done it longer. With this one I'm not going to set a timeline. I'm just going to go with it.
