Re: Health & Wellness Check-In

  • After a month of not being able to go to a WW meeting, I finally was able to go tonight. It wasn't a good weigh in at all. I expected it to some degree.

I set a goal last week of exercising three times. I am posting this as I am on our treadmill :)! Tonight makes twice during this past week. I didn't meet my goal of three times, but I at least got off my butt and have done something.

C and I took her brother and sister to the Y with us on Monday. I worked out while they played basketball. It was an eye opener to how out of shape I have gotten.

The topic of the meeting tonight was about taking small steps. When it has come to eating and working out, I tend to be all or nothing. I think about how long I used to walk/work out for and I think that if I can't still do that, there is no sense. That is so far from the truth! So, I'm starting small again and working my way back. Every little bit makes a difference.

QOTW: Our quick go to answer is to eat out. I'm trying to get us away from it again, but it can be hard. I'm the main dinner maker as I'm home before C is during the week. So, I can't really blame her for this. I need to plan better so that I am prepared to make a healthy dinner each night. Small steps....

  • I have been a super slacker since this summer about getting any type of physical activity.  I have been focusing on trying to eat healthier and drink more water.  The water is a challenge, but I hit around 50oz a day easily, but I am going for double that since I am pregnant.  I had gained a little weight over the TTC this fall, but have maintained since getting pregnant.  So that is a good thing for me.

I wish everyone positive thoughts about themselves and their bodies :-)

  • I thought I'd jump in even though I haven't before. I am really trying to get at least 3 work outs in per week and it's a struggle. I've gained just under 10 lbs so far and I'm 16 weeks. My midwife seems to think it's great, but I feel like I should be more active for sure. I'm not too focused on the pounds, just being fit and healthy.

So..this week I've got one exercise in. J did it with me which was fun. We were going to do one last night, but we were both exhausted. Eating well is going pretty much ok. Bubbles (the fetus) really likes fries and ice cream so that it's hard to resist sometimes but I try to meet all of my nutritional goals everyday and am doing well except for protein.

QOTW: We have a lot, depends on how pressed for time. Usually we will make spaghetti, quick, cheap and easy. Sometimes tacos (last night) or breakfast. Just depends on what we have in the house. Soup and a sandwich or salad happens a lot too. We don't eat out very often.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Last week I set a goal of doing 4 days with exercise. I only did 2. Both were long walks. It is really cold here right now, so long walks takes some commitment, so I do feel good about at least getting that done.

I'm going to try to be good about high protein and low carb for the rest of this IVF cycle (last night's ice cream aside).

I'm hoping that the high doses of stimming drugs I'm taking are going to swell my ovaries to the point where exercise is not advised. I don't know when that is. I'm guessing not today (day 2), so I may try to go swimming today.

QOTW: Before I was doing high protein eating, our go to meal would be perogies (from frozen--boiled for 5 minutes and then pan fried) with salad. Now it's chicken (from frozen--it's so much easier for me to deal with than raw) and veggies (like a stirfry, or chicken on big salads or something like that). My recent favorite simple, healthy meal is
    1) sweet potatoes with peels on--scrubbed, chunked, tossed in coconut oil and salt and pepper and cumin, and then cooked at 425 until done (approx 45 minutes but depends on size of chunks).
    2) broccoli tossed in coconut oil and lots of garlic powder and salt and pepper and added to the oven for the last 10-15 minutes of the sweet potato cooking
    3) peanut butter chicken (I cook the chicken from frozen in a frying pan--when it's completely defrosted, I cut it into pieces to finish cooking and cook it in a small amount of oil. Once it is completely cooked, I add some peanut butter to the pan, a little bit of soy sauce, some garlic, and some ginger. I toss it all together and let it cook for a couple minutes so the peanut butter sauce sticks to the chicken (in other words--it doesn't end up saucy; it ends up like flavored pieces of chicken)d
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • I'm doing my absolute best to continue eating a low carb, low sugar and high protein diet. It is a lot easier when I have food in the house and we don't have to go out to eat. Despite the fact that we may go out to eat, I have been very good about not getting a ton of carbs (i.e. bottomless broccoli instead of bottomless steak fries at Red Robin). The small victories are huge right now and that is what I am holding on to.

Now that I am finally feeling better, I hope to get back into my yoga and biking routine. I felt so great when I would do one or both every day and I am looking forward to getting back to that.

QOTW: If I am pressed for time, I will usually eat string cheese and almonds. I'm not "supposed" to like my favorite meal because it does involve a sweet potato, but here it is:

Sweet potato stuffed with kale and beans. It is so good.

Cook the sweet potato like normal. In the meantime, when the potato has about 30 minutes left, you saute some shallots, add garlic and red pepper flakes. Then you add the beans and let those swim with the other flavors. Lastly, you add in the kale and let that cook down just a little bit and then add some lemon juice. Take out the sweet potato, add a little organic butter and then top it with the kale mixture. It is to die for.

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.
