Weather and Working Rant

Ugh!  I'm so sick of sub-zero temps and icy roads. :(  I hate that I just started working this month, and I've already called in to WFH about 8 times because of the weather.  I'm scared shitless to drive in this, especially with Isaac in the car.  But how long will my coworkers be generous and understand that I'm WFH?  They've already let me go to part-time, I feel useless to my team.  Not to mention daycare - which is being done by my mom, but I hardly want her driving here if I'm afraid to drive.  If either one of us got in an accident because I have to work....ugggggggh.  So then I'm "working from home" in between stints of taking care of Isaac, who, understandably doesn't want me paying attention to only the computer. I live in the northeast, at some point I'm going to have to suck it up and learn to drive out here.  Or move to anywhere else.  *grumble*

Or quit working... maybe that'll work.  DH told me last night that I can't expect him to eat foods he doesn't like in front of Isaac, and that it's okay to explain to Isaac that mommy likes her carrots and daddy doesn't, but Isaac has to try them.  By his logic, I "tried" being a working parent, but I didn't like it...right?  It's the same, right? ;-P

Eta i know I've got it good, that i can work part time and wfh when i need to... but we absolutely do need my income and part time was a trade off dh was okay with. I just wish i wasn't such a wimp. When i moved back here from Arizona, i slid a number of times and it's scary. I'm so afraid of sliding into oncoming traffic or something like that, especially with my most treasured possession in the car.

Re: Weather and Working Rant

  • I'm sorry. I can't wfh, so we have to brave the weather, as long as DC is open. I am 100% more scared of driving now with B in the car in icy conditions.

Your logic sounds good to me!

  • @mrads did you go to work already today? How were your roads?

I haven't left yet. B is still contagious with the flu so my mil is watching him. Which I am so anxious about that I didn't even know it was bad out. But I work three minutes from home and my township has, IMO, some of the best road maintenance in the area.

The road to DC, however, is scary and not well taken care of. But I can't take b to DC till Monday.

  • Mt. Washington roads are awful. If i knew i could get off of the mt and into the north side safely i might be less scared.

  • Is b feeling any better?
  • Mt Washington scares me too. I lived there for a bit and always felt so much better when I was off of it in bad weather.

He is feeling a lot better. Tamiflu is wonderful. But he is still contagious and since he caught it at DC from a mother who couldn't bother to keep her kid home during the contagious period, is rather not send him and be that mother myself.

  • I'm glad he's feeling better. I get so angry with people that don't have the common decency to stay home when they're sick.

Thanks for making me feel slightly more rational about not driving mt Washington today. =o)

  • With DH and I having different shifts, lo doesn't have to go to daycare. I would also be nervous to drive with him in the car on icy roads. Hope your co-workers understand! Winter will be over soon (hopefully)

  • Ugh, I hate driving on icy/snowy roads, too.  Vent away!  And I think your logic makes sense ;)

  • I had to take my drivers test in late december in WI.  No choice but to learn to handle the crap.  And our road clean up around here is good some days...others they decide to wait until  the last snowflake has fallen.
I do my best to convince myself the roads are ice free and clear.  Then cross my fingers I dont have to make any sudden stops or movements ;)
But I am glad I can SAH instead of driving to town again.  I still have to take DD1 to school...but thats only a few blocks away.

Go find an empty parking lot and slide around until you feel more comfortable ;)
