I was diagnosed with thrush recently. For those of you who are also dealing with that, what are you doing to treat yourself? Have you made any dietary changes? What are you doing to solve the issue? Right now I am using a vinegar rinse after pumping. Then I am using two creams prescribed by my midwife. I am also taking a probiotic three times a day. And letting my nipples air dry after pumping. However, I have been doing this for two days and not seen much result. I have also restricted sugar from my diet. Pretty much followin my GD diet. Is there anything else that anyone is doing that they find effective? This problem sucks.
Eta... I know thrush has been discussed repeatedly. However I am still really confused. When you look at the Cadidia diet there is so much conflicting information. For example, it says to eliminate dairy. But everyone says to eat yogurt. Also it talks about eliminating even fruit sugar. But then you're supposed to eat oranges for the vitamin C. Vit c helps eliminate yeast. I'm just wondering if anyone is very educated in the best way to handle thrush. Ugh it's one thing after another.
Re: Those dealing with thrush…
- diflucan from OB. I was recently on quite a few antibiotics so I had a full blown yeast infection.
- LC have me an ointment cocktail for my nips. Equal amounts of hydrocortisone 1%, polysporin and antifungal. Put that on nips 4x/day for 2 days, then polysporin and antifungal 4x/day for 4 days. After 3 treatments, they already feel better.
- coconut oil after every pumping.
- steam cleaning the shields after every pumping (I have 2 sets so really after every 2 pumpings). I have the medela quick clean bags and i put a splash of vinegar in there too. I do this with bottle nipples too. LO doesn't appear to have it since we've mainly done bottles the last couple weeks since going back to work.
That's about it for right now. We'll see how it goes, but like I said I'm starting to feel better already.
