Tenth percentile growth scan

Hello,
I am currently 32 weeks 6 days and had u/s today and dr informed me that my baby is measuring small 5.2% which falls into the bottom tenth percentile. I have to go
Back next week for a Doppler. The baby weighs 3 lbs 13 oz and she said the fluid looks good, the head is measuring 34 weeks but abdomen measures 30 weeks. I am average size and have gained about 23 lbs so far. The doctor said she may have to induce me if the baby continues to measure small. I just wondered if you ladies had any insight on this. TIA

Re: Tenth percentile growth scan

  • I don't have any experience with this but 3 lbs 13 oz doesn't sound bottom 10 percent small to me for almost 33 weeks. Your doctor knows more than I do though.

  • I would think that if your baby is in the same percentile across scans that your baby is just small, but growing fine.  I would ask if your baby has always measured small or if there has been a big change in his/her percentile over time.  Sending thoughts and prayers!

  • These are great questions. I will definitely ask! This is the first u/s I've had since the anatomy scan and at that time I was measuring normal. My BPD is measuring 34 weeks (head) and AC 30 weeks 2 days (abdomen) other measurements Hc 33 weeks 4 days FC 31 weeks 4 days. The doctor seemed to think everything will be fine. The baby is head down and moves a lot! I've just been reading online since I got home and I am a little scared! Thanks for the advice.

  • My husband and I are both average weight/height. I am 5'6 and normally weigh 135 lbs. my husband is 5'10 and 170 lbs. I eat a well balanced diet a lot is fruits and vegetables (and ice cream!) so I feel like I have been eating pretty well throughout the pregnancy.

  • It's good that the head is measuring right, that means the brain is developing well. The baby will probably be diagnosed IUGR (interuterine growth restriction) and may have to spend some time in the NICU depending on size and health at birth. But from what I understand (I'm a NICU nurse) head sparing IUGR is the best of them. it's really good that the head is measuring correctly
  • Thank you that makes me feel much better. My dr called today and said I would have to start coming 2 times weekly for a Doppler and office visit. She said she will be inducing me early but if my fluid and blood flow rain good I could go until 38 weeks. How long do you think the baby would have to be in the Nicu?

  • At 32 weeks my LO measured 3.5 lbs and they didn't mention anything about her being to small. Curious
