Do you use a blanket for baby?

I have had Ariella with a blanket up to her belly button/ chest but under her arms since birth, even at the hospital. My grandma and aunt just freaked out at me and said it's not allowed until 1 year old, so does anyone else use a blanket?

    When he's sleeping and we're sleeping for the night, we stick with swaddles or halo sleep sacks... When he's in his swing or something and I'm watching him we use blankets.
