Last night DD took off her pants from start to finish totally on her own......twice and when asked. I am not going to say it was easy or a short process but she did it! She also remembered tips I told her like sitting down when you can't shake it off your other leg (due to weakness, lack of skill I think) but she did it and said it.
Also, genetics was today, it's weird being the mother/daughter they always are excited to have in the clinic; status quo for DD's treatment and they are going to do the new cellular enzyme panel on me to get closer to what mito I actually have and what DD may have as well - doc lead me on this which is what I was praying for. I had no idea what decision to make on this. Still waiting a month for insurance approval, than 6 months for results - but it's another start. Glad they have mine and DD's back
We had a bday party last weekend for dd and she was the life of the party. At social events she tends to be clung to dh or i or playing as far away as humanly possible so it was a nice change. She had fun feeding cake to my aunts and showing off her dolls. instead of crying and holding her ears when people sang happy birthday like in years past she was looking at everyone and smiling--we got some super cute photos.
We just got back from a vacation in Florida. DS did well, and didn't even seem to care that the temperatures were much cooler than average (DH and I were the ones moping about that!). On our last day he *finally* picked up his feet and started doggie paddling on his own! This is after years of swimming lessons and going to our YMCA pool weekly and the swimming beach all summer. He clearly just had to wait and do it on his own schedule, and he was so, so proud.
DS1 is adjusting really well to his new preschool and ABA schedule! And his preschool teacher is working on teaching him scrips to use with the other kids. DS1 is the only ASD kid in the class though several of the kids have ASD siblings. It's working out better then I could have imagined!
DS1: 4/15/2011
Dx: ASD, SPD and receptive and expressive speech delay at 21 months
DS woke me up the other morning by pulling on my shirt while saying in a quiet little voice "Mama, Mama."
This was the first time he said Mama in relation to me. There were a few tears on my end. It was a good moment in what's been a pretty stressful few weeks.
DD seems to have turned some kind of corner. Our sitter who also happens to be my friend is brutally honest, the kind of honest that gives you details you probably need to hear but don't want to. I.E. "A headbutted me today and tried to bite my thigh, then she played with the cats toy for about an hour"...although that would be more along the lines of last spring, thats the kind of detail she goes into. Anyway, the last 3 days I've picked her up friend has gushed about how engaged, playful, and sweet she has been. She said DD never once cried and was asking her to "play" with her on the floor. I dropped her off for a bit tonight (not her normal time to go) because I broke my foot Friday and didn't want to try and take her with me to the grocery and when I came to pick her up she was sitting in the sitters lap with her toy just smiling and playing...unreal!!! My mother also watched her over the weekend and said she couldn't believe how sweet and playful she was...so it seems like this may actually all be real. My 2nd brag is that I redid DDs ATEC from 9 months ago ( I know its subjective) and she dropped from 86 to 56, which was enough to remind me that we have indeed made some progress.
DD1 has been very insistent about introducing DD2 to her kindergarten classmates, now that they're both at the same school. She usually has at least one person in mind, and I've been picking DD2 up first rather than vice-versa so that DD1 can make her introductions while the other kids are waiting to get picked up. It's very cute, and just tickles me that she wants her little sister to meet all her friends from kindy.
I try to do a "tell me three things about your day" on the way home from pick-up, but lately DD1 has just been spilling out stuff about her day with no prompting as soon as she sees me. Some of it's pretty jumbled and I have no clue about some of the things she refers to, but she's eager to tell me about the things that were important in her day, at least!
