Blankets

When did you start letting LO sleep with a blanket at night? The boys nap with blankets and they are always in the living room when they nap, so they are within sight. I've noticed that when D is upset and fighting sleep the blanket comforts him. You give him a blanket and he pulls it close while putting his thumb in his mouth and settles. Last night I gave him the blanket and then went in later and took it out of the crib and he was fine. I was just curious and I know it is more of a parents choice and comfort level, but I was just curious to see if there was a general age range.

I think the rule of thumb is around 2y they can have a blanket and pillow. I have given my guy a little blanket square for the last 2-3 weeks...so since 9.5m. Its just one of those little squares that comes with a stuffed animal head attached but it is now headless. know he is capable of moving it from his mouth if it was in his way and it isnt big enough to get around his neck. I started for the same reasons you mentioned. They are def at the right age for having a comfort object.

honestly we gave her a blanket around 9ish months, it was just way too cold at night for nothing. She's been fine, I basically waited until she could stand up in the crib by herself. And I don't put the blanket on her unless she is asleep so no chance of it riding up.

I know she has consistently had a blanket for a few months, and a stuffed animal since she was 1.

I started using a light blanket right before DS turned 1 because he hated any sort of sleep sack. I cover him up when he's sleeping, but he moves so much that all blankets are off before he gets up in the morning anyway. He does have a lovey though, which is actually a small burp cloth, that he's used for a while. It's really small, so we weren't worried about it wrapping around his neck. He rubs it all over his face and snuggles up with it every night.

Declan has used a blanket for a long time since he refused the sleep sack, at the beginning he didn't move much or would kick it off

DS has been using a blanket since I feel around maybe 9-10 months. Once I knew he could sit up, roll over etc. He snuggles on top of it half the time.

Grayson had a blanket early on, since he could roll and sit up. It's definitely what you are comfortable with. He moves A LOT so the blanket ends up all over the crib.

I tried to get him to use a comfort object as early as possible, to help with horrible night time sleep. He really took to it at about 8 months and now cuddles with them all night. Most mornings, I catch him in the monitor with one of the tags in his mouth. (Why do kids love tags so much?!) We use the Angel Dears and love them.

As for an actual blanket, it stays in the low 70's year-round in Nairobi, so we've just done light sleep sacks, so I can't really comment on that.

G is tiny, so she still fits into the carter's sleepsacks with sleeves. If she didn't, I would have no problem giving her a blanket (she's 9.5 months). She does sleep with a lovey (one of those blanket squares) and loves it!

L doesn't have an actual blanket for warmth but has a lovey and a very small taggies blanket in his crib. I found it helped the transition to the crib for him. He's had them since around 7.5 months.
