CPW: Does your baby like solids?

Lillian thinks I am crazy for trying to give her food. We've tried oatmeal, purees, BLW... she is completely uninterested and borderline offended. Just wondering what others' experiences have been.

Re: CPW: Does your baby like solids?

  • Haven't started yet... It's hard enough getting his bottles into him. I imagine once we start solids my entire day will be spent trying to feed him. Le sigh.

I had every intention of doing BLW.  We've tried sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, pork, broccoli, green beans, steak, carrots, toast, avocado, apples, yogurt, banana... she won't have any of it.

So I thought, maybe she would like purees?  Nope.

I am starting to worry that she'll be 100% BF through college.

  • She wasn't interested last month except she loved oatmeal mixed with BM. Now she's eating more but can take it or leave it.

  • I voted yes, but honestly, I think she just likes putting anything in her mouth to chomp on. Not really sure if she realizes it's food. We're doing a modified BLW approach, so she gets some purees, too. She gets a small pureed version of whatever she's holding for BLW. So far she's had avocado, sweet potato, carrot, and toast with hummus.

We do BLW and she LOVES it. She hasn't rejected a single thing yet.

She's had ham, carnitas, tortillas, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots, apples, bananas, mangoes, kiwi, waffles, pancakes, spaghetti, yogurt, and dozens of other things.
I want to try meat, but heard the meat poops are horrible. Is that true?
  • We started purées a couple of months ago, usually cereal or yogurt with fruit for breakfast and then whatever we are having for dinner blended up....couple of nights ago she had the filling out of our stuffed peppers and loved it. We also give her thing to suck and gnaw on like strips of peppers, apples, pineapple.....we are starting to do more finger foods, because she definitely loves to eat!!

They will all eat eventually so if they're not into it quite yet I wouldn't worry too much......

  • We're on the younger side of the board, so no solids here yet.
  • We just gave him sweet potatoes this past weekend for two days.  He seemed to enjoy them, but he hasn't had any since. He also hasn't pooped since, so there's that.
  • The first day she has something new, she always makes the same face like, Mommy, what the hell are you doing to me?, but she takes more and more on the subsequent days, eagerly opening her mouth.

We did turkey and I don't remember any bad poops.

DS loves food. we're kind of doing a combo of purées and BLW. He'll moan and slap his hands on the high chair until you give him more. DD was never that excited.

  • We're doing a mix of purées and BLW and he is enjoying all the foods. Last night he had a piece of fajita meat and gnawed on it forever. He cried when I tried to take it away. Lol So far we've had banana, cheese, green bean, pizza crust, waffle, pancake, chicken, and French fries.

He also loves the Ella's kitchen purple ones purées. Mmmm
  • We are doing BLW as well and the only thing that she has been iffy on has been avocado!  Her favorite food is broccoli but she has had and loves chicken, peas, homemade bread, pizza crust, bananas, strawberries, rice (fed to her with chopsticks), ham, pancakes, apples, pineapple, carrots...the list goes on and on!

  • The first time that we gave Adeline solids she didn't poop for three days.  I think it takes some time for their bodies to get used to digesting solid food.

  • The gag says it all. Every once in awhile he'll fake my out by taking a bite and acting excited (kick kick kick kick), but on the next bite he shuts his mouth tight. Awh, hell no!

  • My first couldn't care less. This one loves to eat!

  • I tried a little sweet potato puree on his five month bday (Christmas day)--he couldn't even keep it in his mouth!  Tried a little oatmeal a week or so ago, and he still just pushes it out with his tongue, so he's not really ready yet.  His 6 month bday is this Saturday so I may try again next week.  I do think he's hungry and maybe ready for a little bit of solids into his day but his tongue is working against him :)

  • I've given him a little here and there but  his 6 month appt isn't until the 29th.  He likes everything I've given him so far but loves to naw on apple slices (obviously I cut them big enough that he can't actually eat them, he also doesn't have ANY teeth, my poor bald, toothless turtle baby).

  • We haven't given her a wide variety yet but she likes it so far.  She really likes anything she can feed herself (bonus points if she sees us take a bite first)
  • Emma loves all the food! I have yet to find something she doesn't get excited about eating.

  • Purees have been fine, but he hates oatmeal.
  • Keenan goes through phases. Lately he's been very anti-solids. We still try 3x a day, but we only get a few bites each time. About a week ago though he would get REALLY excited about solids. It also depends on the type of food. He loves avocado, not a huge fan of carrots, confused by bananas, and unsure of the new butternut squash. Oh and it depends on the day whether he likes the peas & sweet potato mix.

So I guess my answer is: kinda?

  • Crysten has only had avocados and she love them.  Next week I will start with more purees and see how that goes.  So far so good......

We've done chicken and the poops aren't any worse. Its been a week of meats and okay so far.

I want to do BLW but he loves purées so much and is quite a stickler for texture it hasn't been too popular but I need to keep trying.
  • E loves to eat.  We mainly do purees but recently, I've been letting her try things off of my plate as she wants them.  This morning, she grabbed a piece of bacon when I looked away.  Loved.  It.  Guess her vegetarian phase is over.
  • M is not a fan of purées, but LOVES feeding herself (and sharing with the dog - one bite for M, one bite for the puppy, another bite for M...). Her favorites have been roast chicken pieces and cucumber strips, but halved grapes and blueberries rank pretty high on the list as well. I am amazed at the tiny pieces of food that she can pick up and eat.
  • Mostly take ot leave it. But there are a few things she really likes where she will attack the spoon. She seems to love squash.

  • I chose SS, because we've just barely gotten started with them, and she liked the oatmeal, but it didn't like her.

We've tried oatmeal cereal mixed with breast milk. She liked it okay, ate it well, then puked it up like a tiny oatmeal volcano.

We tried a small amount of rice cereal with bm today and she was okay with it, interested but not wild and crazy for it. She started turning away from the spoon after most of it was gone, so I just stopped. Thankfully it has stayed down. We'll give her some over the next few days and then move on to a veg.

I'm looking forward to sharing new flavors and textures with her, but a little nervous about how she'll tolerate them.

Although he hates avocados he looks adorable!
  • She makes funny faces, especially the first few bites, but then she grabs the spoon to help guide it to her mouth.  We tried BLW and she doesn't seem too interested in eating food then.  She just mushes up the food and gives it a few licks.
